re the role of 'gossip, in the local hood it plays its part in interconnecting people around the day to day flows of the area, it doesn't have to be nasty! Internet Gossip! wow.... I like to treat this forum like a old school public bar, there are always in house rules to observe! And in current times kids are allow in the bars.. one rule I have is! Dont post anything that you wouldn't say standing in front of anyone! whoever the happen to be!! it just so gets me! why the feck would you have a need to comment about a person private life! Exception made! if violence is play! Enough banter!!! off to the Big Lego show! D town has flood, but the show must go on! -

Sigh, what is the BIGGEST $$$$$$$$$$$$$ focus on currently re Things NZ racing! (leaving the issues of Tracks aside) Hint, it is Not the upcoming race meetings! It is about the Liquation of Avondale! I (presume) that BS is standing aside so that the New CEO will Drive this going forward!!! This new fella/woman could learn a thing or two about how to close down a function race course, especially so from the fella I mentioned in the lead post! -

If I did! it would take the enamel of the teeth of some! frighten some* amuse others! * those born with silver spoons up their back jack sees!!! ((names withheld for just now!!!) Many would be surprised how in racing have that sort of linage! -
I feel ya re the Oaks! I still feel the excitement of getting to seethe good fillies each new season, starting out their 3 yr old years! Was there one in the CD that starts of slow and has the ability to mature and stay! Though personally, it would be all the Black Type 1600/Miles, be the for the colts or fillies or open or wfa, spring, summer or winter! The Telegraph would get a few honorable mentions! The old 3 day Winter meetings had their own logic and sorted out the real form re ND/CD/South... nek minute!

we had rallies that lived in Cobden, they had about 4 permanent water stains inside their house, all above the 1m mark, marking the big floods that had flooded over the years... very pragmatic, clean up and wait for the next one! ps, rain has finally stopped

The club, the track, the history... Hard not to be a tad melancholy! That of course is qucikly negated by the 'real politics' on the Industry! The Elitisms! so shown historically by the building of the stand coming down! Public very much Over there! the further the better! Not one great stand like a proper race course stand! As ever, I still be hoping for a decent track for their upcoming Groups Races! Still a track I will attempt to bet if the track is playing OK.

I've always found Sean one of the more approachable people in a Club position in this part of the country! Southland Thoroughbreds ndetprSoos70333h08m0g17ic8icth77im31m61cu382cc26l2fgt8ag3hif · Page Sponsor: Clearview Park Stud Bad weather continues to interrupt Southland racing By Jamie Searle The neverending wet weather in the south has forced the Southland Racing Club to abandon its meeting on Sunday and it also ruled out moving the race day to next week.. Club president Sean Bellew said the club gained approval to reschedule the meeting to Thursday. However, more bad weather was forecasted, he added. A move to Thursday would have created a dual-code race day, as the Northern Southland Trotting Club is holding a meeting at Ascot Park the same day. "We've looked at the long range weather forecast. It's heavy rain for Tuesday and Wednesday Fullstop or comma. and added to the fact the drainage off the property is backing up [at present] because water levels are too high and water can't drain away," Bellew said. "We feel we're going to be in an inundation and saturation point for another two or three days and by the time Thursday arrives, we feel we're just moving with the problem and we don't want to get people's hopes up again and let them down." Rider and horse safety was always a priority, Bellew said. Other factors taken into consideration were: being able to move the barrier to the different starting points in heavy ground and would the ambulance get traction to follow riders when races were in progress. The club had done everything it could to hold its first meeting of the season, Bellew said. "We know we've got an obligation to serve the industry but mother nature has beaten us." Race officials inspected the Ascot Park track this morning and saw surface water in the back straight and a wet spot at the 1600m. The track could not be used on Sunday. The Gore Racing Club moved its meeting on September 22 to Oamaru after rain had saturated its home track."

I hope the Club get to prepare well for this sort of meeting! Anyone know a current member? Vince? Vince?

Is Vince Mid still this side of the pearly gates? He always come to mind when Avondale gets mentioned. I feel a bit privileged too have got to work at a couple of these Night Avondale Cup nights! When they started we didn't know if our camera gear could handle the night lighting! Helpful also when a good mate rides the winner on the Cup and we were all On!

Recently has lost his top job! A job where he sorted out a problem with Racing! Lee Hsien Loong, He would bring a bit of Steel to the Job! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Hsien_Loong

I struggle to see that clearly??? What has the stipes report said? I could get it to open! -
If they are going to be getting the weather we are getting currently in Dunedin then any flood prone area might be seriously at risk! it just keeps raining and more to come...

TAB offers $10 million prize for picking result of Australasia’s richest horse race, The Everest Stuff sports reporters October 01, 2024 • 05:00am Share I Wish I Win, seen here winning the Kingsford Smith Cup in Brisbane in June, will line up again in the Trackside Media slot in this year’s A$20m edition of The Everest, after running a close second to Think About It at Randwick last year. Grant Peters New Zealand’s richest, but also most complicated, pick the result competition is returning for a second year. When the TAB offered a $10 million prize for anyone who could correctly predict the finishing order of the 12 runners in the 2023 edition of Australia’s richest race, The Everest, few people gave the jackpot pool a chance of being struck. But one lucky Auckland punter nailed it, selecting all 12 horses in the exact finishing order to become $10m better off in what was the New Zealand TAB’s largest ever payout. Entain New Zealand (TAB) managing director Cameron Rodger was surprised when the inaugural edition of the Mega Millions, as the TAB has dubbed it, was struck. With more than 400 million possible results in a 12-horse field, the chances of success in the competition, free to enter for TAB account holders, were seemingly nigh on impossible. “I was pretty blown away to get the call last year that someone had won, but we’re prepared to put up the $10 million to test Kiwis’ ability to conjure up a moment of genius for the second year in a row,” Rodger said. New Zealand’s TAB announced on Tuesday the competition will return for a second year, for the 2024 edition of the A$20 million The Everest. This time around, entries open on October 16, ahead of the A$20 million race at Randwick in Sydney, that features the fastest horse in Australasia racing over 1200m, on Saturday October 19. The TAB (managed by Entain Australia and New Zealand), who is responsible for running the competition and funding the $10m prize pool, have a runner in in the race themselves under the Trackside Media banner with I Wish I Win. Last year the combination finished second behind Think About It. “The presence of I Wish I Win – racing for us in the Trackside Media slot - and Joliestar is already making this edition of the A$20 million The Everest pretty amazing for Kiwis, but imagine if lightning struck twice in two years with this competition?” The Everest Mega Millions competition is free to enter for anyone with a NZ TAB account. If more than one entry correctly picks all 12 horses in finishing order, the life-changing prize will be shared. Horses for The Everest are nominated by slot owners who have paid A$600,000 to secure a slot (starting position) in the race. The slot owner has the right to nominate their own horse for the race, sell their slot or do a deal with the owner of another horse to share the prizemoney. Entries for the competition close 15 minutes before the race jumps on October 19 and will be available here from October 16 when the final field for the race is confirmed.
