Great Moments in Racing. Can you remember some
nomates replied to Gammalite's topic in Galloping Chat
Well it's certainly more enjoyable. -
I have a small share in 1 horse left and that is only because i wouldn't get one in Australia whilst i couldn't travel, that's about to change so any more will be in Aus . For me there are no positives in racing a horse here, I'm not looking to win a fortune more for fun, but geez the standard of race riding here just drains me and i am sick and tired of watching horses get slaughtered by brain dead riding, no fun in that at all. For me things are past the point of no return, cannot see any bright spots on the horizon. Looking forward to someone providing some.

We can't control the weather but the Taranaki situation was man made, the amount of rain that fell through the day would have canned the meeting anyway but there had been enough prior to r1 to have soaked in . The issue for me is the small amounts they were putting on daily, for one it has been so hot half would have evaporated before it had a chance to do anything , all they were creating was a crust on top and a skating rink an inch below. Plus they knew the forecast, they should have soaked it the week or so before and supplemented that until a couple of days before racing, all they created was a hard pan . And whilst the professor will tell us the structure is fecked, which is true, enough water put on for a period will get down deep enough which would have allowed the early rain to run through . Also concussion for the horses is not created on the top 1 or 2 inches , which none of them seem to understand, it is when there is give in the soil to a decent depth, say 12 inches . It is a debate I have had with a couple of course caretakers, and even after having track issues would believe they were still doing it right. As we can see nothing changes, even when they say they are taking lessons from their mistakes, nothing seems to change, so what hope.

Yesterday's Cup being run on Friday at Palmy, excellent, the 3yo fillies race going to be run on the 18th back at NP , not perfect but I can live with it, but the 2yo black type race gets moved to TeRapa next Saturday, 6 of the 10 horses came from the north so have they said they wouldn't come back on the 18th , who knows, but that is now 2 black type 2yo races moved out of the CD . Mark my words, this will become more regular as northerners say they want these races closer to home, citing can't trust the races will run, less travel etc,etc .

They have xfered the meeting to Hastings on Thursday . Was the Tauhrenikau track so bad that it couldn't be held Thursday . We keep hammering the same tracks , just a matter of time till they fall over as well.

It is going to be interesting to see what they come up with. If they are smart, huh big ask, the 2yo , 3yo from yesterday and the breeders stakes from Wairarapa should be programmed for Awapuni on Friday , these 3 races attract horses which in all likeliness won't affect the quality of field's coming up , certainly not taking a big name at least . Plus I think a lot of the northern horses would still come .

And what would Albert Bosma know about preparing race tracks , this is the problem with our industry , too many people with influence but no real idea making or helping make decisions or continue the illusion , it's all just sound bites . The real worry is that none of them seem to learn , just lurch from one fuckup to the next . How long have they been preparing tracks with dibs and dabs of irrigation without ever looking up and asking " is there another way ? " .
-
Yet again they make the decision when a lot of participants are already there or on their way . Perhaps the stipes have to be on course for a certain amount of time to claim a full days pay.

Just gone up on nztr site , gonnneee .

Just went to look at r1 at Tauranga on TAB and saying refund , so appears as if they are gone as well.

CD racing is a shambles, there is issues with the tracks at Trentham, Otaki, Palmy, New Plymouth, Wanganui isn't far behind especially in the winter, that leaves us with Hawera and Hastings with Woodville stuck somewhere in between. Horse numbers and trainers are on the decline, things can't go on the way they are, but they will, because they change nothing. Everything resting on the new A/W at Palmy now, yeehaa !!!!
-
Could just see them add them to wairarapa then see it canned . They have to be added to palmy on Friday especially the 2yo and 3to races as they are important races in horses preparations going toward bigger targets . As you said tho i can see them pocket the cash and give everybody the middle finger.

Very unusual ride from OPB , especially when he decided to go inside when going down the back straight when he didn't have to . IMO it also showed that Shamus isn't a derby horse .

Is Half the NZ Jockey Population Suspended or Injured?
nomates replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
would have to ask one of the oldies in the retirement village if they can out a tower in their backyard . Must say with both sides of the shute getting built out and the back straight resembling work yard with small mountains of rock and stone the whole place looks a bit barren and sad . At least they got the track right for the cup day , but Trentham doesn't really have the great feel good buzz of bygone years . -
Have to say Joe the winner was impressive , that win made his credentials for stud as more than a tough old stayer . As for Grylls got a position further back than i think he had to , if he looked over shortly after the start he would have seen a few going forward and he should have held the 3 back position , then made the choice to try and come off on the corner and got smacked back in , there is not much of her and it took a while to get balanced up and going again , if he had stayed inside would have got the same inside run he ended up with and would have better momentum up . Jockeys , what do you do with them ? Shoot em !

Breathe Joe , breathe . Apparently some argue that 3 wide with no cover is sweet , keeps an nice even momentum out there , i think she could have done that outside the leader .

I have just noticed that Te Rapa has an industry day programmed next Wednesday , but not just any industry day , no they have dropped the Waikato Gns G2 2000mtrs for 3yos into the programme . This has obviously been done rather than race on the usual Herbie Dyke day which is a week before the Avondale Gns which then divides the 3yos . But seriously , is our calendar that stuffed up that rather than find a decent progression via proper use of the calendar they just throw it at some low key meeting . Are they that lazy . Nothing much surprises me now with NZTR but this has , i have for a long time said the calendar needs a complete revamp where proper progressions are set for age group racing as well as every other level . The 2yo race at New Plymouth is another race that doesn't sit right in the progression to the G1 races for juveniles , but year on year they just keep moving it around so that it doesn't interfere with the really important 2yo races . But such an important lead up to the Derby just thrown into a midweek industry , really . Or is this just another case of the bully boys from ATC not working with the industry to get it right for all ?

These guys are working with much larger numbers and whether people want to believe it or not they are making good money , when they can charge not a lot short of the Sydney stables are they are doing alright . They will hang in till things get too bad , then either move over or retire , comfortably .
