  1. Make up your mind quick , the price of property round here is diabolical .
  2. Easy peasy lemon squeezy , if only Joe . But really sticking a new coat of paint on isn't going to do it . I've been having a think about it and if the CD wants to survive and get stronger they may have to do what Auckland is doing , basically become the CD Racing consortium , or something similar . If they don't i believe they will be swallowed up . I mean that crowd there today is an embarrassment , something has seriously gone wrong in Wellington .
  3. It would be complete waste of money to renovate the track , as much as i hate saying it the champagne turf has seen it's day , sell it , put down a strathayr at Otaki and make Levin a training hub . That could all be done and there would be truckloads left over for improved stakes .
  4. No , and that was in my head as i was typing that . But geez if we just had a couple of people that could grab the industry by the balls we might just see a real seachange in our fortunes , just maybe .
  5. It is a sad sight . Breaks my heart . And they want to do a full refurb of the public amenities , waste of money . But i bet they still do it .
  6. Don't hold your breath , he's creaming it and wont give it up willingly . It sums NZ racing up when both him and BS are now both out of the country with know idea of when or if they can get back , and we wonder why we appear rudderless .
  7. When i used to drive a truck to the races and home again i would often miss see some of the early or late races , sometimes both , and would always listen on radio , but i would always record the races to watch later , i began to notice that often what i had heard was not always what i seen when watching later , very rarely was the commentator telling me the horse was caught wide or starting to improve , or travelling , or not . The number of times a horse i backed was which called 5/6th in running , and i'm thinking great , but not that it was 3 wide , very frustrating when i couldn't work out why it hadn't kicked on . I reckon because they think most people are watching and they can see what is happening themselves and hence they have got a bit lazy , this not only occurs in NZ , have noticed the same in Aus . Back in the day when people relied on radio the commentators had to be much more accurate . They respected they were the radio listeners eyes .
  8. Yes you are correct just re read that paragraph , so now we will have 2 different sets of rules applying , odd . Or perhaps they will bring the existing riders under the new rules when re applying for next season . I don't know that there is going to be a rush of newbies anyway , at least until the borders open . Do know why suddenly this has become such an issue anyway , maybe a bit of butt covering after the McKee incident . Should be working on dragging up the standard of race riding by apprentices .
  9. Good luck , i see the CD apprentice mentor is doing the track riders here , hope she does a better job with this .
  10. Problem is they don't know they are in an asylum , they think it is the real world .
  11. Well even the " ELITE " are going to struggle under this proposal .
  12. Very few track riders are working towards being a jockey , most of the ones i have known over the years have been in the industry for a while and are just trying to earn a living .
  13. Certainly but in the initial period there are going to issues , we are already short on competent track riders , the ones that are doing it but are short on ability are going to be caught by the short and curlies , if they even apply , many will be scared off by this process and walk away . My issue is yet again they just dump a proposal with a months notice , no on the ground consultation , no real talking to those who are struggling with the shortage already . Why not a phase in process . If this kind of thing was dropped onto NZTR to check their competency with a months notice they would be a massive fail and shutting their doors .
  14. Numbers , numbers , numbers , even the big stables are struggling for track riders . And this isn't me being in any way racist , just a realist , prepare for the Asian invasion , once the borders open there will be a massive influx .
  15. Oh fuck i don't even know where to start , these lot are complete tools , trying to look professional and failing miserably . All i know from what i have seen over the last few years is that the number of competent trackriders is a small proportion of those riding track work , going on my situation when i last had 4 in work 4 years ago i would have been lucky to have got 1 of them worked each day if competence was the criteria . The good track riders are now sitting pretty , they will all get tied into stables and on whatever money they want .
  16. As soon as i get over there it's yours .
  17. Another race and they are bombing down the outside , bloody ridiculous that the inside should be off this much at this time of year . Only bonus i worked it out and got Clickety Click and just got Tutin Cans .
  18. Yeah mine sat outside leader and battled , i only backed it because i thought it would get back and come down the outside , bloody jockeys , never do what you expect .
  19. Surprised they had water anyway , yet again watered yesterday after watering thru from last weeks meeting , which was overwatered and made the inside off , as well as 15mm of rain Tues/Wed , so we can see the effect again , inside well off , bloody sick of this .
  20. Apparently issue with the water down at the stabling area , mains burst down the road but all go again . We can find ways to stop races .
  21. Yea i was still in Scotland then , moved to Titahi Bay in '72 aged 11 , we must talk , do you mind if i PM you .
  22. Otaki has a special place in my heart , my college mate's family had a bach at the beach so i always got invited up when the races were on , my horses always went well there , got one home at $55's and we were confident to , a bit of a cheat but his work leading up to the race had been great , so we did alright , got 5k for the race , we got 8k between the 3 of us that owned him . Our best mate , a mad irish girl with too much money got just as much , i told her put plenty on for a place with some onto win , not her , $50/$20 was her go and the tri .
  23. Got my first share in a horse from a punt on a double on cup day , Cubacade won the cup Raywood Lass won the Gearge Adams , 19yrs old , won about $450 , was earning about $70 a week , it was a great trip back on the train to Wellington then out to Porirua .
  24. Ha could spend all day mentioning all the great races i watched , and that would just be the summer racing but some of the best was through the May to Sept period and heavy tracks dominated . Trentham had 8 meetings last season , the epitome of a white elephant .
