  1. I believe she has headed to Melbourne .
  2. They obviously feel this is the strong part of NZ racing , Turnover on these races must be propping up the rest of the industry . The only positive is that it is ATC money and not industry money , but geez i just don't get what we are seeing and they are missing . Anybody with a promising 2yo needs to get him schooled up , it's the future .
  3. It's what it is now and aint going to change in the fore seeable future , i'm pleased i made the decision to stop the day to day hands on training , i got to the stage i was getting pissed every day with piss poor and lazy track riders and then get to the races to get an even worse race ride , very demoralising . Now i just get pissed watching my money get ridden down the drain . He wouldn't be accused of being sexist now , he would be saying it about them all .
  4. I did wonder if that first run on that heavy track took a bit more out of her than they thought , they sometimes don't show it till the next run . Bit of a break and go again .
  5. Well that was bog average , showed nothing in the straight after getting the softest lead it could ask for .
  6. I will say this , a lot of the overseas riders aren't a lot better in their judgement in races up north , they win races but geez they can ride a lot of sleepy races .
  7. Doesn't say anything about having a decent dose of commonsense understanding of gambling or that they have to have a plan for regaining the confidence of their core customers .
  8. It's noticeable that T Rae drops the regulars like a hot rock when she can put Lisa Allpress up , says it all really .
  9. Be interesting to see what is in the stipes report around the fall of Corey Campbell , one of the asian guys was at fault from what i could see . But your right about the seniors , S Wynne is up there with some of the kids , downright dangerous , K Williams is usually the best down there but she absolutely butchered one today , gave it no chance , and that is my pocket talking , but they must think they are on Winx what they ask some horses to do . Look at CWJ's ride on Louie Louie , never a hope , never looked to get closer , as i said looked like they all had their kiwisaver on Robina Joy . Like i said the other day , you have top put your money on and hope the horse is good enough to overcome the ride , like Avitus today , ugly as sin ride but the horse was good enough to still win .
  10. Geez when you think it can't get any worse , today has been a shit show , some of the rides even from the seniors is questionable . It must be tough for some of the owners down there knowing that there is no wiggle room to get better on their horse . Watched that Robina Joy win and some of the rides in behind on the other well backed runners you would think the other riders had their kiwi saver on the winner . Getting close to not betting down there , no one can consistently put 3/4 good rides together , becoming a bigger lottery than ever .
  11. You wont find many of them voting to reverse the spend up .
  12. I will start , i had a small share in a filly , Miss Balvenie , who earlier this year had looked very smart in jumpouts and a trial and was being set for the Matamata Breeders , unfortunately got sold , i was the only one who wanted to race , anyway now with T Dabirnig and won on debut at Murtoa 3 weeks ago , was a 2.10 fav and spanked them by 5l on a heavy track which she didn't look comfortable on but was all but untouched , it's in the last at Ballarat today 1200 mtr mares and fillies race , drawn 5 and on a good surface which i think is what she much prefers , anyway has opened fav and is in to 4.2 . If she is as good as i think she is she should be winning this , big step up from a Murtoa mdn but they way she won says she is better than country class . She ran 4th in her trial but should have won , 1st and 2nd was El Vencedor and Roca Fundeeda , both winners this spring , both have raps on them , so the form from the trial is sound . So if you have a nibble good luck .
  13. I was going to start this thread last week but never got around to it . A thread to put out any info someone has on a horse that could be worth having a nibble at , or a horse that they fancy , just a bit of fun , no recriminations on those putting a horse out there . Joe and Gamma have the jam from over the ditch and have both provided some useful info over the last few weeks . So as i said just a bit of fun and hopefully we can get the odd gem and make a little bit of dosh . Cheers
  14. There are areas of racing that are profitable , just not the ones that need to be .
  15. Just watched a horse win at Narrocote SA , Flow Meter , 12yo g , today was his 176th start , it was his 18th win , along with 22 2nds and 26 3rds , has now won in excess of 710k . Was rooting for him when i heard the stats , just fantastic , how good are his legs , 122 of his starts have been on good tracks , started when he was a spring 3yo and has won from 1200 to 2050 mtrs . This is why i love horse racing , trainer owns him and i bet he loves him to bits . And the horse has to love racing . If ever a horse deserves a big green paddock on retirement it is this bloke , and i hope he gets it without injury . Go Flow Meter , i am going to watch this horse for the rest of his career .
  16. Put a rather large smile on my dial .
  17. They will be complaining shortly that the races are starting too early and they can't get a sleep in .
  18. I watched the trackwork on Trackside this morning and the one that impressed me was Zaaki , worked with Mounga and i thought he worked like a horse at his peak , was looking to go faster and for mine primed for a massive race .
  19. This bone really is lacking anymore meat , you both appear out of bullets and have resorted to throwing wet sponges at each other .
  20. Welcome to the club , you old codger .
  21. Well i have been going to trials in the CD for 40 odd years , there was so many horses around they had division races and horses had to win or run 2nd in a trial to get an A or B ticket which guaranteed a start . May not have been an official requirement regarding number of trial rides but there was an expectation that young riders were as well educated as the horses before they went to race day and 60/70 wouldn't have been considered excessive . I have seen some apprentices in recent years that have gone to the races after 6 months of riding track and a little over 20 or so trial and jumpout rides , with your experience how many jockeys have you known that were good enough to go race riding with that amount of experience . i know the riding ranks are thin and kids are in a hurry to do everything , but looking at the standard now , for me 1/2 of apprentices shouldn't be riding .
  22. Just more people in the world who are just happy to be picking up a great salary .
  23. I wrote this earlier today , just watched R Elliot make a decision to ease Marscapone 3 back on the rail in the Sweynesse Stakes , jumped from 1 , jumped first but allowed 2 to cross him , could have quite easily held the trail but made a decision not to , cost him the race , a 2.10 fav , he would have his arse dragged into the stipes in Aus and asked to explain himself , be interesting to see if they question his decision not hold a better position , Punters deserve better .
  24. Still not enough , look what young ones have to go through to get a drivers license . They wouldn't be allowed on the road after a few spins around the block in a car .
  25. The thing with Collette was that she was really coming off a Caulfield Cup prep , had an issue so missed some work and this was a catch up race , so she was always going to be a bit dour at the distance , so what a great mare she is to be able to win it , perhaps the jock could have looked at going a bit earlier before the pace went on , just a thought .
