Ashburton Thursday - No shortage of horses and races!
Gammalite replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
ya go about it all wrong mate . obviously because you're always cranky about it. Ashburton maidens and race card are all $17,000 races on Thursday . very hard to win in those big fields too. Each of those races should be 8 horses fields racing for $8,500 per race. common sense these days. Manawatu had 6 x $10,000 races. I think you're right it's still a bit too much? . The betting is so small , they should just run it as Non-tote racing . but for say 5k to 6k maybe. Today at Marburg QLD here , our Very slowest horse going that can't break 2 minutes ALL get a chance to get some money for Their OWNERS (very important) in 8 races worth $4000 each. They just need a few bucks to pay their way. So it's very Important to Limit the field size to 8 . to give them the best chance of earning some of it. no one will be betting on them. racing QLD can shell out $32k to support these people. won't hurt em' lol. THere Will be a LOT more horses paying their way at MARBURG and MANAWATU week to week, than at Ashburton in those silly huge fields , where the horse will be 'Busting a Gut' , just to run a place ., and be flattened by the effort , and earn nothing for their trouble. Even the form at CAMBRIDGE on Friday of the horses is WAY WAY better than anything racing at Ashburton in general , because the Smaller (more sensible fields in these days and times) , enables the contestants to EARN Something. Ashburton will be just full of losers ( many owners and Punters) -
BLINKERS ON First time...what took them sooo long???
Gammalite replied to Thomass's topic in Galloping Chat
Not sure there is anything else they can do with that horse. The Champions Mile . The Crowning glory. A Champion in the champion. Won an All stars Mile too. Mr B . mr brilliant. Got beat a nose by Jmac last year in the Cox Plate , only because of JMac's big whip ride on some Asian thing, so maybe he could go for the Cox Plate again Chief ? Via Sistina too powerful this year . (she won the 2000m race again last Sat too) maybe you're right and with him only 4th this year in Cox, he might just stay back at Mile racing. -

Riding excellent lately. Great Everest Winning ride the other day. Was he saying 'Bella Nipotina' would of got the 'Darley Sprint' yesterday too with Blinkers maybe ? Left on her own out wide just a slight drop in concentration late on. They helped your old TA mate Imperatriz win a few sprints? although she didn't have them on in the Darley last November when she powered to Victory lol. 😂😁 maybe you're on to something Chief ? -
BLINKERS ON First time...what took them sooo long???
Gammalite replied to Thomass's topic in Galloping Chat
they just helped that's all. he was always thereabouts. But the little bit of 'focus forward' (or more likely not seeing what Willow was doing as much as normal) gave him a few metres better excelleration/ concentration ... call it what you like. It still worked. go Mr B . hezza beauty Thomass and Willow on the money Chief. Was a fantastic race. JMac was in sensational form too. Probably would of Won This race too? If ONlY they put Blinkers on FANGIRL 🙄. what could of been but wasn't . 🤣😂 . she was a very nice close 3rd though. The Queensland Trainer Golan a very smart man , with putting Blinkers on ANTINO got 2nd instead . 😋🏆😎 -
Mr B in 1.36 neat in the Flemington Champions mile... . Savaglee would of won it by lengths ? 🤣 Blinkers on Mr B made all the difference there Chief. 😋 he's a ripper.
-
holy moly 😳. that's rolling along . doubt that Pride of Jenni will even run them along at that rate in the Big Mile shortly at Flemington. My guess is Mickey Dee in 1.35 on Broadsiding late.😁👍 (Mickey won the first race over a mile today in 1.36.8 on a good4 Flemington lol )
-
What time did they go ? Sam Spratt sure is a fine rider. Off the fence turning in taking no chances. She did keep driving hard with whip last 100-150 even when racing away clear from the field on Savaglee. Again taking no chances 😅.
-
Should of been on 10m behind handicap NZ Cup. At least he drew the second row I spose , so is giving some of them a 5m start at least , and won't be able to lead and dictate. (not with ease anyway lol )

Has a real good one in Coastal Babe . She won a Group 1 less than a month ago , and is a live chance to win a Huge prize in the new big prize Velocity 3 year old race next Friday. she won the harness Million 3 year old filly final too, picking up near 90k in that race earlier in year too. She is quite special anyway even if he isn't racing many others . Watch out for her to give Catch A Dream a bit of a fright in the Velocity too, if gets the pole draw . She might do being a filly if it's preferential. Bit of luck Steven might even be the Inaugural Velocity Winning Trainer . best of luck to him 🏆

Possibly right . just got all the race replay on TV right at this second. Damien Oliver is scrutinizing it hard , and says because 3rd and 4th were so handy , they were left in front too early. Says at least they had their chance where-as a few like Buckaroo had to do it the tough way 10 wide turning in , and not quite getting there. got up near Jamies bum but dropped back a length near the line. Great times rides 1st and 2nd . No Doubt. I was very happy with Jamies effort though . just needed 3100m only and we were the Winner s !!! 😂🏇🏆 -

Jamie Kah gave that Melbourne Cup runner every possible . Okita Soushi 3rd. Thought she had it 300m out too when hit the lead. but not to be. 🙄 Robbie Dolan the hero of the day instead on Kinght's Choice. congrats to the old Ethereal trainer Sheila Laxon for a strong NZ connection as co-trainer today . and great ride Jamie as usually usual 😂😋 -
Well the Big Boy is Back . What a great thread this was. Plenty of debate about driving tactics in the Autumn . great stuff !😂 (geez I hope Walt is ok , was in I'll health there for a while. Hope he got to see today's win) Mo'unga becoming a Spring star and shifting from the 'fiddleful ' West Coast racing to the Big Win today on the more Prestigious East Coast of the Island instead.😉 Now a timeless KAIKOURA Cup winner. A group 2 race by 4 lengths. The BOAY champ Mo strikes again !🏆💰
-
Go you little ripper . On the Galah and Walt BOAY fav horse there. whatta ripper he is !! well spotted lads. knew the Aussie would gallop out from the Stuuuupid standing starts they still have in prehistoric fashion. $50 bucks of the Switzerland winnings on Mo'unga to have a very nice day out. Go the Mo . what a good horse he is. Marketplace and 'Borris' in Red Hot form for Regan Todd as well lately. they'll be winning Cup week. What a great little Trainer that bloke is turning into. (Thought giving him The Fixer (former Nz Cup winner) was a great move that time by the generous owners to give Todd some confidence with a good old trying horse. Now it's starting to pay off. Go MO !! hope he wins a support race Cup week too.

Some action today at the seaside. The Aussie in town Greg Sugars with his Auckland Cup winner Better Eclipse. should give this race a bit of a fright. Regan Todd in outstanding form lately with his team, of MarketPlace, Borris and co. Maybe old BOAY fav horse Mo'unga can take out the Kaikoura Cup ? I think Greg's trotter in the Trotters Cup Race 7, in 'One Over All ' is New Zealand owned , so hope he puts up a good performance. Mark Jones has a few contenders in the early races today . Not sure Why that stable doesn't do better than it does? (Regan Todd seems to have gone better since doing his own after being a stable off-sider for a while ) been a while since Master Lavros won Group 1's now. And Stylish Memphis and La Rosa just fizzled out. RUSH has been going well lately , but in Low class races. like all their runners seem to be these days. seems unusual for the team that is 8th on National Premiership and with the ability of Mark and SamO as drivers?. 'What the Bell' defeated old Rachmaniov yesterday to get a 2nd career win, so maybe they can get on a roll now 😂 Coalman? surely not🙄

well one good thing is the riding standard in Australia is exemplary generally. Those 2 Overseas jockeys were a danger to themselves , embarrassing to the sport , and copped mammoth fines and suspensions in the Golden Eagle in Sydney yesterday. That winning rider 'Free-rein' Fallon on the Winner Lake Forest virtually lost control of his horse with it veering out at the line and Crashing into the other one's. 'OMG'- Orani not much better on the French horse either. Give me Jamie Kah anyday over those hap=hazard basher crashers. -

I think the whole nation might be excited if she wins the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday. Ciaron Maher has popped her on OKITA SOUSHI for the Big 3200m tester. that'll keep her busy lol.😁 Will it just be the good horse and good Trainer winning ? seems is a live chance at 11-1 odds currently. I see her female UK equivalent in Hollie Doyle is having a go too. (leading female jock) Hollie is Also on an 11-1 shot in SEA KING. looks the obvious Quinella ? 😂💰 might have something on that. Go Jamie!! we know you can do it. -

Harry Coffey just finished his suspension after the great Caulfield Cup win. Gives them time to celebrate mate 😁. Jamie is from South Australia originally and was delighted to pay back some of the people that got her going in this riding camper.. -

Once you're good , you're always good. Should get plenty of rides after that SPECTACULAR win in the VICTORIA DERBY on a South Australian horse. think you would be under -powered from there, BUT with a TOP jockey on, it gives them lengths. What a Champion she is. Overcomes all the critics -
He would indeed. the 15 'metres' might be enough though. Especially with the Ascent Slot race horse needing a run. Paramount Kiwi hasn't started for a while, will need a good hit out before going to the Addington Ascent . can't bet on David Butcher though mate. too old 😂 Pantani only showing $2.10 in race 6 Sportsbet as well. Whale can load up on that lol . I tell ya what though. There is a absolute Special in the 2 year old trot. Race 9. I Love Small fields as so many less trying to beat you, and you shouldn't get held up either 😂. and that Majestic Son trotter number 3 , trots like a stag (28 sec last quarter last time too , and won with authority. A very nice solid trotter ) so i've got $100 win on YA EEJIT YA (WTF with the name? 🙄) at $2.40 on Sportsbet. only bet tonight to get some cash for Derby Day tomorrow. Home and hosed.

Thought you guys were trying to Tip SO NAIVE for a minute there so put $10 bucks on it lol. Finished 4th in the Sarten. Was going to back Chiefy's ''Captured By Love , but odds were way too short. Had every chance in the run too but only 3rd. Maybe you can excuse my Naiveness, and answer me this 🙄 . Why does she have a BARRIER BLANKET ? What good does that do ? Can never work it out . is it to make them feel like they're at home with a rug on or something to relax ? (at a guess)

The Great championship of harness racing is to be re-invented. Go you Good Thing The Iconic race of Nz-Aus rivalry that is synonymous with Harness racing has faded 😢 in recent times , for one reason or another. NZ runners hasn't even Turned up past 3 years of the Pacing series that were run. Majestic Man (2nd) and Bolt For Brilliance have proudly represented for Nz , contested the Trot for their great NZ trainers. So they are Doubling the prize-money to a $1,000,000 Grand Final , they took my advice and dropped it to 2 Heats instead of the traditional 3. (At The speeds they go now , nearly all horses would be flattened by 3 heats in a week these days.) Brisbane is taking it on at Albion Park for the next 3 JULY's Running ! (Must be running it in place of the Black's A Fake QLD Championship). So there will be 2 Interdominion Championships next 8 months. NSW are hosting in December soon the 2024 Championship. Looking forward to some Fine Winter QLD racing now. (Yulestar NZ, Village Kid, Jack Morris, Leap To Fame have all won Brisbane Interdominions ) 'Stanley Rio' for NZ just prior to them as well.
