I Reckon the Government would love ENTAIN Mikey. they help greatly with the collect of the gambling dollar from all those punters/gamblers out there , that get carried away and are spending their money , just chasing more money lol. Governments Just love the Gambling/alcohol and tobacco taxes. worth billions. They should help Entain collect some of it. Mad if they don't ?. Some supporters of the Harness sport . Like HRNZ for example , are just trying to Support the Sport. They have introduced new schemes , incentives , all sorts of things like the EXcellent Slot races at Cambridge and Show Day at Addington to attract the BEst horses. even this thread the Harness 5000 , seems they are trying to exclude the Best on this occasion π€£π to give the poor folk a go at bigger prizemoney lol. worth a try I spose. π€ The Golden Gait at Auckland gave 'loyal' local folk a go at some bigger bucks , etc . Excellent Stuff !! π Alas every idea the HRNZ comes up with is met with strong criticism here , even the rating system of horses and races put on . Nothing is right. But at least the HRNZ still Put races On , all round the country. good on em' . and that Keeps the participants in the sport for now .

the casino's (and TAB's) love to see a winner . That keeps them coming back. And they will lose more often than they win. Exactly as you said 'the Odds are ALways in their favour." tables , horses, Pokies , whatever. They have Limits . you can't just have a bloke walk in and put $10,000 on the Red in Roulette for example. THIS just encourages Desparate people to have a Life Changing 'Fling at glory'. As they will mostly lose. and lose Bigtime. RESTRICTIONS help the PUNTER to control the urge of losing Large amounts in one go . It is VITAL they do this or a heap of people around will Lose their House, their family, their livelihood and all as they are pretty Stupid Brodster. especially after a loss. . You know this !!. So should encourage Limits of spending π. Just an example for you mate, I had a nice friend who had a good job as a company Director, he used to patronise my small business before I sold it to the Chinese, and loves his horse racing. seemed a rational , normal bloke to me . But one Monday he came in and said he had flown down to Randwick on the Saturday as 'Had a good thing" to bet on. It didn't win . He chased the loss hard and told me he had spent $72,000 on the company card. when normally he wouldn't even use that. He did manage to keep his job but was a shell of a person afterwards I thought, hiding his secrets (and losses) you need Limits mate . that was an intelligent man lol . There's a LOT of not so intelligent folk around WHO WOULD LOSE EVERYThing if they were cut loose with out the restrictions that you say should be removed.

a slap in the face for a Great Sport . great work, and Why not have a good time with it ? . Jump Ship ? while all the sports and Pokies continue to rake in not millions , BUT billions from all the sport and machine gambling. Pick on one poster enjoying the Sport instead ?? and jump ship ? couldn't organize a chook raffle you blokes.

someone has to be the 'backer' for funding Prizemoney events Mikey. The government (of any country) makes a lot of Money in Taxes each year , as 90% of GAMBLERS lose. They can't help but want to spend all their pension on the Machines or want to put $1000 plus on a horse , like a druggie, smoker or alcoholic addict the gambling is a Huge problem in western society. The Government makes a TON of money from these vices. So why Not back Entain to collect more of it , from all these losers? The government knows a good thing when they see it lol. And they are Supporting some Sports , that would otherwise Die out . like harness racing. here's a snippet on the nations efforts. (Hope the Brodster not getting involved too much lol π) > Current Gambling Market in New Zealand New Zealand has a population of approximately 5.2 million people, with high internet and smartphone penetration supporting its digital industries. Internet penetration sits at over 93%, and mobile phone ownership exceeds 90%, making it an ideal environment for online gambling growth. The gambling market (retail + online) in New Zealand is expected to generate US$3.11bn in revenue in 2025 and is forecasted to expand at a 3.21% CAGR between 2025 and 2029, leading to an anticipated market volume of US$3.53bn by 2029.

Tell ya what TABman , the kiwi lass Nicole Molander was Very unlucky as far as the Interdominion goes. She had our best trotter here in Australia , the ex-pat kiwi KEYSTONE DEL , winning between 2013 to 2018. The Interdominion Trot Series had taken a Sabatical for those very exact years !!! Just after Marky Boy had won both the 2011 and 2012 trot Interdominion Grand Finals with I CAN DOOSIT. think Mark scared everyone to death with how good that horse was so we didn't have the race afterwards for a few years. π€£ *Keystone Del got cold Stone ZERO from 7 starts in NZ as 4 yearold novice in 2012 , so was sent to Australia as a Dud , but Nicole fired him up and 71 career Starts for 42 Wins and a Million dollars !! won a great Southern Star Title one year from 5 attempts at the biggest trot race there is. Guess Nicole is still working somewhere? RONDEL the very first Interdominion winner I ever watched. live on TV in New Zealand as a school kid. Remember it very well. very plain race record horse . But the great driver winning was well worth seeing . Super Cool Wolfie π .

Cardigan Bay , couldn't defend his hard -earned Interdominion Title with Victory unfortunately. In the next series also run on a very small track at the Melbourne Showgrounds 1964 . The Interdominion Council handicapped him out of it on a very imposing 48yards π. 2 local front markers ran the Quinella in the Grand Final . with NZ grabbing 3rd with TACTILE (the prolific Derby winner from the previous season ) now trained and driven by gun kiwi Bob Cameron . Tactile started off 12 yards . 5th in Melbourne was the Champion NZ mare ROBIN DUNDEE off 12 yards ( who went on to Dead-heat win the following season at Forbury Park in Dunedin for Doody Townley. and Cardigan Bay finished a fairly close 6th . the 3 great NZ horses winning a heat each but beaten by the Handicaps in the Grand Final behind winner 'Minuteman' off the front. Wolfie had waited for Robin Dundee to Cart him up into the race , but she had suffered a bone injury during the running so Townley couldn't get her to run up to her very best. and Cardy got held up.
-
yeah nah ? no error so Lordship won the NZ Cup in the spring of 1962' with Cardigan Bay 5th off 24 yards . during the 62-63 season dates. Then Cardigan Bay won the Interdominion also in the 62-63 season in the early months of 1963 in Australia. THEN, Later that year Cardigan Bay won his NZ Cup (off an incredible 54 yards handicap) also in 1963 so NO error. Perhaps I should edit for you to avoid your confusion ??, Where I wrote this , I should of put but Cardy 'had' got back on track in the Spring 'of 1962' by running 5th to Lordship in a soggy '1962' NZ Cup. during the 62-63' racing season.

A bit tough TABman. Brodie suffers the infliction from the 7 deadly Sins a fair bit π, so just have to cut slack for those tendencies. It's a crazy world out there , currently several countries (and Territories) trying to Blow each other up, so there's a lot of worse things happening than ENTAIN trying to get a quid , and helping harness racing with Funding. Or Brodie trying to get a quid out of them in return Fire lol. π Fantasizes about getting some large Bets on? in a bit of 'greed' and 'gluttony' , a bit like the Stonewall bloke is doing lately on those Telfer runners big Bets. leading to A bit of 'Envy' coming out there. π€£ππ° At least he is wanting the Harness sport to continue , and is not a 'sloth' in speaking out about what he believes will keep the game going. We know ENTAIN has helped as well as they can . their sub-branch of LADBROKES carries the QLD harness along with great support , and we would struggle without it . maybe Not survive even. ENtain has to wear the 'Wrath' of the Brodster as he 'Lusts' after some cash . But at least he has 'pride' in his achievements in the past that has led to his current situation of I'll health 'verbal d' you say ? Seven deadly Sins Syndrome is the diagnosis. **** no known cure i'm afraid π

Woodlands Stud will be spitting chips. π I guess they can handle no 'Bettors' at $25 k But DownByThe Seaside , Sweet Lou and American Ideal are all around $10k service Fee so won't have any runners in the new series of races at all. Oh dear.π What about Dave Jessop who stood Vance Hanover for $500 that time. Got hundreds of mares when Dave stood him at Placid lodge . 1984 he had 400 Mares !!!! a World Record π. Some great horsemen worked with that stallion . Fraser Kirk at Vance Lodge and the semen was sent to Kevin Williams to inseminate the Mares down at Templeton. alas the stallion dropped dead at just 17 years old. πͺ Everyone Rushed Mares to him (Vance Hanover) at the bargain basement price . Kiwis love to save a dollar where they can π (unless you're Brodie trying to unload on some obscure horse somewhere π€£) maybe NZ should saturate the entire Market with a CHEAP Stallion Fee once again ??? (to a top breed stallion)

you have great insight all through your post Mr Galah that is very noteworthy. I guess I am used to nearly All the Australian races running at a loss and am not moved by that delimma. The States are all still racing. Even TAS and SA with a very low key (can't bet on product) they still have members that POUR money in to keep them going. WHERE there's a WILL there's a WAY. ( not meaning' a dead persosn will either π, but bequests do help ππ°π) South Australia on the brink of going under (worse than NZ) so Seymour is 'Bailing them out ' from here in QLD even as we speak, as loves trotting and doesn't want them shut down. I find HRNZ are 'going with the times' and introducing schemes , slots and things that NEARLY all have met with strong criticism on this forum . I Like them All . they're trying something. I even like the idea that NoworNever accidently sprung earlier. Have some Match Races. all sorts of things to get some PUBLICITY and get back in the news. Marketplace v Rubira or something similar would be good? . Marketplace would be better odds than if he was in a 10 horse field ,with all the bets going on one opponent. and the Publicity would be Fantastic. (just another dreaming Gamma idea lol) Don Hugo v Republican Party for $50,000 ? would be amazing.

Why can't you get people who want to help then?? I have no trouble with Dean Shannon , as I know he HAS spent heaps out of his own pocket ,over decades, but he can. He has a 10million dollar stud farm here at Melaney. buying NZ yearlings at yearling sales, getting funding from ENTAIN , that you don't enjoy only because it will end sometime lol π all sorts of things that upports the breeding and traininggs . Bet Big Barry and Scott are happy with him. The Galah told me John Green not an option , so maybe he and I should just move in and chat with Brad Steele. I would ask for the Brodster and NowOrNever to be in a side-room for consultation about the Punting issues ? π We could send Chief off to the greyhounds to sort them out ? ππ

Well that is all good comment , from a punting perspective, and happens at the gallops meetings all the time, whether big city ones or country track meetings. The issue I had /have is if you don't run races for the 'POOR' players like Waikato you won't have AS MANY participants because they're Not playing anymore . You see this in the North Island already. and then you slam the Waikato meeting today because you can't get a bet on . (when really betting is available if you look in the right places, just like taking Crystal at Manawatu for example) But anyway , you can see the 'Sands' shifting in the South Island too. The HRNZ tried to 'sure-up ' the Southland horses with a series ,( that met criticism here on another thread lol ) , breeding numbers are declining. Some bigger stables are Smaller (esp Allstars) and Dunns are down on their usual output and are like Mark Jones , The Hopes, and Houses seeing what they can get out of the country races. Thus taking the money the 'Local' small time owners and trainers would of got on the grass, Sundays, or midweek. Telfers, Cullen ,Todd, Barry Purdon, Dalgety (and sometimes the Allstars dreggs) meanwhile clean up the METRO class Group races ( the few the Aussies haven't taken off you the past 3 years in near a complete ROUT nearly) times are tough. You need more meetings like today ,MORe than you know. The Battlers HAVE to GET a GO and a WIN. you're nearly extinct and can't see it for dollar signs from a bloody imaginary trifecta or first 4 big win lol. I wonder how many other sports get trashed by punters? . None I know of. probably just harness? . such a shame as has had such great tradition and is a fine spectacle (and participation) sport. death bell tolls in NZ .

The One and Only . the late great Mr Peter Wolfenden MBE. and yes wins with Cardy and Rondel . An Interdominion , National , and world Champion Hero , was Cardigan Bay . and still NZ's best ever ? Here's a story about him , some might know , but shows how LUCK is important with horse racing too. 1962 and Cardigan Bay having set the NZ record of 10 straight wins , including the NZ FFA and Auckland Cup , was set on the Long journey to Perth for the Interdominion. Too far for Wolfie to go while working his AKLD team , so the horses was untrusted to a good Sydney horseman in Bill Wilkins. Bill steered Cardigan Bay to impressive Heat wins for the first 2 rounds off his 12 yard handicap. But DISASter struck. A stupid Aus stable hand jogging him during the week before the 3rd round of heats got himself tipped out of the cart and Cardy bolted and fell heavily on cement π. dislocating a hip and gouging his legs. so badly , they were gunna shoot him . At the last minute a local trainer Ted Grieg said he would 'Suspend' Cardy in a stall for a month and nurse him to recovery. with the aide of his teen stable hand named Merv Butterworth !! the future owner of double NZ CUP winner Copy That . on ya Merv !! their efforts help Cardy to repair . after 4 months he went home to NZ. (footnote that Interdominion was clean swept by JAMES SCOTT (NSW) who ran track records and won all 3 Heats and Grand Final off the backmark of 24yards. so a very well deserved win anyway for trainer/driver Perc Hall) 1963 and Cardigan Bay Wolfie off the scene himself for 4 months after a savage kick to the face that needed surgery earlier in the year, but got Cardy back on track in the Spring and ran 5th to LORDSHIP in a soggy NZ Cup. Wolfie determined his star should avenge his Bad-Luck in Perth the year before and go to Adelaide for the Interdominion. This time he had to start off 24yards , through the heats and Final on a 550m circumference track. no mean feat. But Wolfie is a Gun and steers Cardy around the field to impressively win his First 2 rounds of heats. In the first heat Cardy had so narrowly dodged a 3 horse fall that his wheel had 8 broken spokes and broken stay. Wolfie had avoided tragedy by millimetres , and won the Heat with the badly buckled wheel in an amazing stroke of good fortune. BUT DISASter struck again. A huge crash in the 3rd round heat that Cardy couldn't dodge this time, saw Cardy belting around with a smashed Sulky and everyone held their breathe, knowing what happened in Perth the year before. Some spectators caught the champ though and as Wolfie assessed him soon after was delighted to find him virtually unscathed somehow. wow that must of been heart-stopping stuff for a moment. In the Grand Final , Disaster struck . π but this time 4 of his rivals were put out of the race in a huge crash. Wolfie missed it and had worked forward 3 wide earlier to get a sit near the leaders in his usual amazing driving ability, and in the home straight Wolfie Drove Extremely HArd for him, overhauled felow NZ er Waitaki Hanover ( Doody Townley) who had led them up in the Grand Final. Doody had won the South Australia Derby with his other horse (TACTILE) as well , to have a great carnival. So it was the UPS and the DOWNS for Wolfie and Cardy . But Champions ALways !!!! and they got the job done. Thanks for reading !

5 x $8000 races that entertains hundreds of people , many people making some wages ,, making a living, the staff at the track, the broadcasters, the people working the Horses (they put in a huge effort) ? All for the price of a cheap new car . $40k . What a bargain . Plenty of happy people about. but you say ABORTION . eject this foetus . don't let them play . Embarrassment ??. Nays it's Shite. a proud supporter of the sport. You should join Carlton lol π€£. some Embarassment then π€£. If they can't afford $40k to pay a heap of owners and trainers and drivers at Waikato today , cause you have shite yourself , maybe drop to the prizemoney in half then ? Run the races for $4000 each instead of $8000 then. save you a few precious dollars? ya poor thing Some people pay for their entertainment . some don't want too. We ran 7 races for about a $30k total last night at Redcliffe. no-one Aborted. just had a Fun time.

Good one Mikey . π you won't be hitting the Trifecta in that one . We ran Australia's Greatest Race the Miracle Mile with 6 horses fields for decades. Was quite successful. Then transferring to Menangle , it is still run with Maximum 8 horse fields . It is still amazingly Successful People can still bet on it , and do. USA /Cananda have ONLY 8 horse field races one after another at all tracks . sometimes 15 races on the card. Plenty of Trifecta's , PICK 6, First 4 's and all sorts for you to hit. π° THIS IS the Way to do it . and Australia and NZ should follow that model. Aus getting closer all the time . EVERY runner gets a chance to Win . the Slot racing 10 starters is ok though. a Great innovation. But YES , indeed One day Match Racing MIght return. If LEAP TO FAME took on NZ's Single BEST horse somewhere it would even get on the NATIONAL NEWS. we havn't been on the news bulletins for over a decade now. BRING BACK the MATCH RAce !!!!!
-
5 -6 horse fields are great . (currently we use 9 at most country meetings in QLD ) but with tough times and expenses approaching that number will drop . This is because Every runner gets a chance in the running. even if still back last at the quarter mile . (400m to run) we lobbyed 'Racing Queensland' hard in Queensland to cut the field size for Albion Park mile racing from 12 starters to 10. This gives all runners a FAIR GO and a CHANCE to win . starting 12 horses just meant the horses running 11th or 12th were NO HOPE even quarter mile out, as just too far off the leaders. That is NO GOOD for the Owner or the driver, or the horse , or the Punter. NO Good. Field sizes should be as small as possible at a meeting to Increase all those parties HAVING A WIN. Also as you mentioned there is the IMPORTANT 'fun' expect competing. That's why the SPORT Exists . It's not a Poker machine for gambling addicts π€£π Love your picture posted by the way . Match races are ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC . Zac would love It. Imagine the crowd Leap To Fame v Don Hugo would draw ? one on one. Magical moment it would be. Pure Steel and Satinover drew a crowd of 20 ,000 . they lined the whole course at Perth All the Way around. You don't know what great racing is? . is the NZ problem in general really. match racing would be Stunning !!! BUT 10 horses SLOT racing Brilliant too. !!!!! Drawing the Best horses on the planet. NZ Metropolitan Club and Albion Park and Menangle and Perth are instilling them each year for maximum effect. excellent Progress !!!π° (15-16 horses standing starts is something from the Dark ages) here's a 2 horse race for you. listen to that crowd. Appreciation of the sport. unlike some.

Today for the Comp we have another Wonderful North Island Driver. Only 4th at Auckland (when the going got tough ) but did have a Pacing GF Win in Australia and again at Addington. 1/ Can you name the great man who won the Best race of All ? 2/ Can you name the 2 winners.? (One star you will know , the other not so much π.) and a POINTS UPDATE Ranga +6 f(or the 6 DQ and promoted interdom runners), TABman +10 ( for some North Islands drivers questions) Ranga + 9 for naming 9 NI drivers correct , Gamma + 2 compliments of Jim Cole and Te Puke Expects * no points for Robert Dunn or Master Musician as they are South Islandersπ BOAY INTERDOMINION Points COMP update Rangatira 41 points , TAB4ever 29 pts, NowOrNever 24 pts, The Galah 23 pts, Gamma 8 pts, Brodster 3 pts, Chiefy the 1 RIPPing point.

No doubt it's a tragedy. The original man Kerry Hoggard (president of the ATC then) died right at that point as construction was about to start . It was his brainchild the Apartments. Guess John Green and his company couldn't save the day afterall then . was just an idea. thank you very much for that info. John along with his wife and old friend of mine. I went to their wedding at Alexandra Park actually lol. They still races horses with Tony Herlihy and Hughes as well. they raced The Orange Agent. she was a beauty , won near a million? but broke bones in the end πͺ. I think the Original contractor doing the apartment job for ATC went Belly-up which snowballed the problems dramatically. what a bloody nightmare the whole thing has turned into. re: greyhounds They shut the greyhounds down once 2016 in NSW for a time, but then the government shortly after overturned the decision as 2000 people would of lost their livelihood. so they made welfare changes in the industry and away they went again. NZ should do that. π as for Entain. I'm grateful they put up money for 5 years . Everyone racing for a quid a bit longer. I'm sure when the five years approaches some plan will be in place for harness to continue. Even if they race for half the money they do now, so be it. Have slot races and put money up ourselves π or pay just acceptance Fees like we DID for Years. Vic Frost (now 80 years old the famous millionaire Westburn Grant man ) won with his horse tonight and picked up $2,369 for his trouble . Just like last week. horse has won 3 races from 15 starts and about 10k this year. It's not about the money for some just doing their sport/hobby. People are happy to be winning . even if prizemoney greatly reduced. You might have to do that in New Zealand. on ya Vic ! you old marvel you

An embarrassment ?? people having fun with their sport. Why do you have to get involved as a Naysayer of the sport anyway ? go and do some knitting or something. Best think ever is that HRNZ LOOKING after the Grass roots people with SLOW horses, so they can have fun . The GAlah was calling for HRNZ to look after the 'grass roots ' .You guys all saying the Elite getting looked after too well ?? π€£ here they are doing it. HRNZ looking after the slow ones , and then get an 'abortion of a comment 'like yours ,π that's pretty funny. Just up the road from me tonight a few horses are racing at Redcliffe . The slowest of the slow π€£. an extra meeting so they can have some fun. only $4000 races. winners get $2300 I think. 7 Winners getting a weeks wages . And NOBODY here is calling it an abortion or an Embarassment in the slightest ( or are betting on them lolπ€£ ) Racing QLD has put up some races for them to get a WINNER. How IMPORTANT that is , to keep them happy. Great to see HRNZ trying to do the same tomorrow in the Waikato ππ it's how harness racing can Survive.
-
no no no no.... they are horse trainers and drivers. they don't know. they are the participants. I wouldn't even get advice from them on training horses π€£, let alone what is good for the industry π. would however take 'Training advice' from BarryP and Scott and Probably Cullen and RTodd from the South. outstanding results from outstanding trainers. and they SET Horses for Races. this is important. or you're just a Sunday hack going through the motions . just surviving and that's all. like those non-elites you mentioned earlier. without a Cup class runner even. you need advice from the rich and famous mate. Get Benefactors in there . Chris Garrard and Seymour. Dean Shannon knows the sport better than anyone as as well as being a big-time owner for decades , he knows the whole betting aspect. Pay him as consultant? they'll even clean up the ATC mess. I have wonderful ideas for that . woo John Green or someone local like that if you like . he knows too . and is a multi millionaire.
-
Had one recently at Alexandra Park after the rain delay. So can be done. Don't give up mate. so just cut out Bernie ,Michelle and Crystal (Hackett's) with their unbelievable skill at getting trotters winning ? and Tony Herlihy and Barry Purdon and Butchers and etc ...with records that must be near WORLD records . Barry was near best on the planet years ago when training with dad Roy. A lifetime of Quality DESERVING reward. Cut Auckland funding to these people you say ??? because people won't bet on them . Goodness me they're still winning Group 1's with Merlin, Meant To Be , Bolt (ret) , even won the new Slot race at Addington they won too in Nov. They are near BEST on THE PLANET , and you want to cut their funding for a Sunday sessions battlers . you are a Cruel man . (just kidding) but really these people Put HARNESS on the PLANET MAP . should be paid just to turn up. would be like saying pay the the first round players at the Tennis much more , and stop giving joker, Nadal ,and Feds the millions. lol.
-
you are making this up really . Supporting one sector over another ?. the elite and all this sort of stuff. HRNZ spreads the funding as they traditionally see fit. Your leading stables aren't elite at all . House, Dunns, Hopes and Mark Jones all hack around on the grass Sundays as much as anyone else . Don't even have a Cup class pacer amongst them ? how is that elite ? just a good trotter or 2. Dalgety's are best now? that Allstars are all but washed up as an elite force with Mark and Nat all but retired. but I have a mate here who has 2 horses at Dalgety's . they are only moderately elite lol π€£ could of been Elite if Carter pursued the Interdominion with the Republican Party instead of just a Invercargill - Auckland Cup double π π chickened out in the end . Good luck to the kiwi's having a go though . The Elite . Mr and Mrs White ππ The Prizemoney allocation for your midweek and Sunday country horses is very generous . Probably too much really per race. Fields should be cut to 10 maximum and run more races . That way YOU GET MORE WINNERS . which is Critical to keeping the participants in the Sport (as costs of running one go up and up each year) Best thing you could do is Race every SATURDAY night to capture some of the galloping dollars when they go out after, and keep some public exposure (and somewhere to go for the public that like to go out at the weekend) all the exclusions going in place to help Share the wins/money really. sometimes they work . The EUREKA (Australia's richest race at $2 million is open Only to 3 and 4 year olds and NO NZ trained horses lolπ) this stops the same horse winning it year after year (like 'Larry' who got beat in it in his attempt actually) , and keeps the money in the country . The BETCHA million dollar race there should consider the same thing to stop the Aussies , or Larry will be back to mug you again. ππ°π°π and put a handicap back on the NZ Cup and Dominion Trot too .
-
yes it is hard to imagine someone sitting there thinking , I'll go to that stallion with my mare next year to get a foal that can race in a -$5k service fee race. Sires Stakes racing much better. On breeding , 3 of my All time favourites for Ability ( Tiger Tara, Lazarus and Leap To Fame ) all by Bettors D, looked a chance of being the 'next Generation' Stallions . BUT.... the Tiger Tara's are doing nothing , so he stands for just $3,500 now . Lazarus showing at $5000 fee I think , might change this year. Opinion is devided ? some say ok , some say underperforming ?'. so doubt I would rush off to 'Leap To Fame' when he retires without considering other options for my mare. It's a fickle game the breeding.π anyone said to you anything TABman ? about the Lazarus stock ?

Poorly written rules lead to no consistency in enforcement.
Gammalite replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Well that would help if they did. The proofs in the Pudding. marks on the horse tell the story. Thomass, Chief and curious arguing over video stills during the running is just Poor evidence. Basically a jockey needs to make noise to scare the horse forward. fright and flight. The whip smacking hard on the shoulder must be enough to make a bit of noise (with good jock style) Flank whipping is applied just to give discomfort to make horse keep going. and seems un-necessary. I notice at the weekend Tom Prebble was being likened to Damien Oliver for screeching that loud they could hear him in the Grandstand. Tom won 3 races at Flemington Sat π. talked the horses into winning . π€£ -
Poorly written rules lead to no consistency in enforcement.
Gammalite replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
I don't think the rest of the world is getting it right Freda. I just watched the Royal Ascot replays and there was a lot of horses copping a Flank whipping at various points. so it must still be in the (their) rules. Curious said he observed horses returning to the enclosure with 'flank welts' Jmac rode a winner there , and seemingly has good style. riding hard forward of the saddle. A lot of the world Class jockeys at Ascot this week had to ride 'hard ' to win those Big races in front of Millions. Little races in NZ with very slow horses , are going to Really need some whip use just to keep them going in the run home. They are harder to keep going than the Good un's π π I was in a lot of races and drove with the whip 100% of the races as you had too. (to stay in contention) Stewards even came down to inspect horses after race's in the 90's. they were looking after horse welfare even then . I'm proud to say just got the odd fine , but they found no flank welts on my horses . One mate got 3 months DQ though , for marks on his horse. Do the stewards in NZ bother to Inspect these horses After the race ? that looked 'hard' ridden ? That only takes a few seconds , and they can be observed to looking after horse welfare, and changing jockey tactics if needed
