The debacle over the jumping features at Riccarton raises the question of what happens next?
Will future Grand Nationals be allocated elsewhere, if so, where? Or will the whole Grand National idea just be quietly buried?
How long before the Guineas are moved?
One thing of which I am certain. The thief who is pinching punnets of flower plants from my garden, will be launched over Jumbo as a final tribute !!!!
At least at Timaru there are a selection of fine grandstands for the public, unlike the debacle of Riccarton and Addington which only cater for the nobs .
I read today that Dame Patsy Reddy has just been appointed to the Nz rugby union board. Fine person, and all that, but what connection does she have with a local club.
Just another corporate appointment with no connection to the grass roots. Just the same as racing.
I find it sad that a club like Waimate, where the grandstands were destroyed, managed to get the community together to replace them. And their reward, to be shut down.
Yet Riccarton the grandstand saga drags on, and their reward, a fancy new track.
I was wondering what the predictions are, as regards north Island trainers sending jumps horses down for the week. I can understand horses coming down for the feature races, but what incentive is there for maiden horses to come ? With no southern jumps horses, will the numbers be light? What are the plans for the future?
This has been happening for a few weeks now and is going to occur again on Sunday. And I wonder why, is this the new norm?
I liked the Nelson/Blenheim winter circuit as a break, and then Sunday meetings being shared around the likes of Timaru and Ashburton.
Is this all part of the grand plan to centralise everything at Addington, and kill off interest in the regions?
It intrigues me that whenever there's a South Island meeting, gallops or harness, Trackside uses Rodley, Sweeney, Thompson, Cookson and co as their resident form experts. Today at Ashburton it's Rodley. I'm sure they're fine people, but is there not one person, living in the south, who could give more of a local knowledge or insight??
I am surprised that Oamaru has lasted this long. A couple of crappy winter dates, there are no trainers based there, and local interest would be about zero. It's a different story when it comes to the harness side, though. That seems to be it's future
Half way between Clyde and Alexandra there is an old racecourse, right next to the Cycle trail. It's always intrigued me. How long has it been there, was it ever used for racing, what's its current purpose etc? Anyone able to offer any insight?
If you're bored with harness racing, why do you keep frequenting this site? There are truck loads of sites on the internet . Why not visit them for other discussion topics?
I understand he's a dedicated Cindy supporter, so that must be his qualification for getting the job . Listening to him in parliament is highly nauseating.
