  1. You certainly wouldn't bet on our women's cricket team, I think they would struggle to win a raffle.
  2. Sports betting is completely different, I can bet on Moana Pacifica to win Super Rugby, or Paramatta to win next year's NRL or Southland to win next year's NPC, or Iceland to win Footballs World Cup, reason is they are actually competing in the event, Iceland are still in the qualifying stage, I still havnt been able to find anywhere on the TAB site if I bet on Djockovic to win the aussie open and he don't turn up if I get my dosh back, on betfair I'm sure you did, these days we have been blinded access to these sites so I can't confirm but with horse racing they ain't competing, you are sumising they may run. It actually allows people to manipulate the market as the no deductions probably did, maybe deductions should apply to the futures market as well but how does one not know if those close to leap to fame know hes is not going to be here and have stacked on some others in the futures market?I think no deductions should still be available, even if only for bets placed after 10am, my beef with the futures is if ya horse dont start you dont get a refund,.......Gamma you say it's just a bit of fun but tell me if you know of anyone who will put 25grand or whatever on Leap To Fame or Swayzee or whatever in the futures market, they will or may in the final field option, so the reality is as the futures market is as is now no one really going to bother much with futures market anyway. I just think the discussion should be about the race, not the markets, maybe O O'Connor and the likes are being instructed by the hierachy to push the futures market, don't know why, I may have a bet on the cup, most likely it will be in the last 15 minutes leading up to the race.
  3. Now Guerins writing about the markets in disarray 3 weeks out from the NZ Cup, why not write something factual about this disfunctional con of a betting option. Disarray my fucking arsehole.
  4. I think if any horse grew another leg in some stables there would be some serious questions asked lol.
  5. Probably should add, the amount from Forbury is just a splash in the bucket, compared to the shit bucket Auckland are in.
  6. I only hope they don't want Forburys money, over 100 years of history run down the drain if they do that, had to laugh at the sites idiot TAB man once commented about Forbury, to use his words frittered it all away, also said no one cares about the NPC seems that might just be a Aucklanders thought process, mind you for those in Auckland he may be right, but the rest of NZ does.
  7. Just read Tuesday, would Canty horses stay over for the weekend or just not bother now.
  8. Run tomorow? Or Monday perhaps.
  9. Futures market would be fine if you get ya dosh back if horse dont run, other than that it's a con.
  10. Be a bit sad if Leap To Fame didn't turn up because trainer/ driver was worried he might get beat, maybe Mark Purdon might withdraw Akuta as it more than likely he won't win, no one is ever going to win everytime and there will be others not as good as either who will turn up, so what's the problem, seems some just don't want to get beat.
  11. One wonders what the betting figures will be......a smart business plan when looking at a business model would always cut money losing ventures and focus on what makes money, HRNZ, they do the opposite.
  12. 2 weeks until Cambridge host a round of the Drivers Champs, numbers havnt improved.
  13. Now I know the stake will be adjusted a bit but how naive is this just seems another bungle by HRNZ, race 1 Addington, by all means run a 2yo trot, but when everything else is 17000 that's weird, no doubt the 4 guys turning will be rubbing their hands with glee, nice work if you can get it.
  14. Is there any reason if they still have a Triple Crown series in the CD in Spring that maybe race at more than one venue ?.......just a thought.
  15. I think you've been reading my comments, I've questioned the point for some time, yet one old stick in the mud elsewhere told me I was a idiot for questioning it, it's simply a con, where people silly enough to gamble on if or not a horse even makes the final field throw their money away, if ya horse dont start you should get ya dosh back, Simply the only talk at present on the NZ Cup should be the horses, not the odds, probably 95% of bets probably in the last half hour so what is the hurry?
  16. I'm always bemused why on Trackside when the top class horses race the continual pushing the odds for the NZ Cup, in the futures market, anyone that would bet into a market where a bet on a non runner loses their dosh is easily fooled, the market will be out 4 or 5 days before the race as in the final field.
  17. Looks like it's popped off today, can't have been a success, just like the good oil on the radio, I often wonder what the TAB benefit from from buying back the radio frequency, now they just simulcast trackside 1 for a while on Saturdays, that's about it.
  18. Seems all the hype for or from the big races will be squeezed in amongst all the other stuff, such is life.
  19. Where did you see if it's on? I will look again, buts it's not on freeview, we'll it don't say it is in the guide.
  20. Seems that channel is a no go now.
  21. Never a problem in the North Island.
  22. There was also a Colin McLachlan the politician, raced a horse in partners with Rob Muldoon, Johny Lincoln, that was about 78, think a guy Holmes trained it, there is a horse I think with same name up North at present, or something similar.
  23. I think, and I stand to be corrected, I have wrong before lol but I think those green colour's might have had white horse shoes front and back, correct me if I'm wrong, Mighty Me would have been his best. And also correct me but I think he stopped driving at the races after he hit a l pole or something at Greymouth when he tossed out, that could all be folly but the horses were just a hobby, but getting in the truck or car heading off to Wellington or Dunedin, must have been a great adventure sometimes. I distinctivly remember him with 2 horses Scottish Chief and Waylyne at Forbury October, those 2nights in October pre cup time were big night outs.
  24. The 83 Great Northern Derby is on you tube, check it if you want gee how much has the TV coverage improved but in those days races were mainly a one off, I suspect that race might have been run during the Interdoms.
  25. Looked like a good crowd yesterday at Ashburton....et the Rugby, not many at the races, they are praising the crowds going to the NPC games, but as opposed to what it once was.......different times but you can't deny it is good for racing that while the crowds are smaller on course the off course crowds are probably OK, racing is a industry driven by betting, other sports crowds and TV rights.
