Bigger population, better weather, speaks for itself,we just have to accept that with racing Aussie is number 1,probably in the world.
We have wee period from Xmas to about Easter where we are at our peak, but nz is always going to be running a poor second but that's life
I don't watch trackside much but sometimes midweek there is some very average stuff from oz too but stakes just seem to hold up, I think they simply have a racing culture, not so in nz.
Does it really matter what the odds are?you take the odds on offer at the time, sometimes you win sometimes not.
last week I picked a horse fixed odds,it was 7.50 all week basically ,started about 5.50 on the tote, closed at about 6.60 on tote,no change on fixed,it is what it is.
At the end of the day you know what you are going to win, just to add I wonder if there is a reduction for late scratching does anybody know?
I actually think the numbers floating around dunedin is probably not much different to what it's always been,as I said before Forbury were stuuffed because of the overkill of meetings elsewhere meaning a lot didn't go there as once before, still wonder if or when Forbs go what if anything will happen
Interesting how the suits who want to close racing down in Dunedin area because of lack of horse population yet four winners at Oamaru yesty,2 from Waikouiti,I from the plains and one from Brighton.
Tuepeka raced at labour weekend back in October, getting back to the calandar Wyndham now race on April fools day,a Thursday before Easter and Manawatu now have the night to themselves,it was shared with Addington but they have moved a day ahead, will be interesting to see if that day works out for Wyndham,it's often a get things done before everything shuts up for the break day.
If Forbury close why don't Tuepeka race at Roxburgh, holiday weekend, same size track, and Tuepeka is on the Clutha river, last year was down for Oamaru,it is a long way away.
I think that Nelson and Blenheim winter circuit should be reinstated,2 trips to the coast a year, two to the top of the south, judging by numbers owners/trainers don't mind travelling now and then,or do we just have the same old Addington Friday night Sunday afternoon repetition?
Maybe if Sunday at Easter becomes a Raceday, good Friday is the real holy day,the Sunday not so much, that Tuesday after Easter has often been a mix up,some people take that day off.
I think that Netball coach getting a knighthood was a joke, sure they won the World Cup but in reality they only won 2 games of note, maybe if one could win a couple more world cups then maybe then, knighthoods are for people who achieve extreme heights,Shadbolts another joke.
I also note that Deux Ex,hope the spellings correct is now back in the ownership of the breeders according to hrnz site, seems the Knights dropped out quickly aye.
I've just been checking out the results from that first meeting I went to Forbury, that was a midweeker as Auckland had the intercoms.
Gee good fields, good horse, that was par for the course for Forbury in those days so one question, where has it gone so wrong, any answers?
Just to add hrnz website has great historic results section, one can get lost in them for ages.
I think Southland Race club should buy them, uts their course, might be looking at something to inject life back in to place but frankly in summer its daylight till ten,in winter well it's too cold, isn't that one of Forburys downfall, winter racing?
North Otago got well beat, over an innings, that guy Smith got 5 for 32 skutteling Nelson for just over a hundred in the challenge and then lose him for the defence,I guess there is a reason he got the call for the Otago team but it's a bit of kick in the guts for North Otago, that's life.
