Is anyone getting decent amounts on PowerPlays or are they restricting you to low amounts?
-
Yes it is a very even field and impossible to predict the winner. Tonights fields are possibly the most unattractive for punting on for quite awhile. Good luck if you are having a go. NZ TAB bring out the power plays earlier and let punters on for good amounts.
-
Just looked at the fixed odds for Addington Friday night and seriously not a single gorse worth investing on the way that I invest! Small field, small odds, going to be a non investing night at the moment! What the NZ TAB need to do is bring the Power Plays out earlier and give them an option no. a d let punters offload. Just pathetic the way they only allow certain punters to net $30 on TOP 4 and Other account only options!!'!!!!!!!!
-
“The Race” over a mile at Cambridge is nothing more than a staged event for the corporates Doesnt attract new people into the industry by way of punters owners or trainers! It is just shuffling money from one big boy to another.
-
Reality is that most do not do a lot! Never see much promotion to get people along to Addington, surely there could be at least some signage around Chch promoting harness and the hospitality there??? Why can’t they get articles on TV 1 or TV3 news with interesting bits as most of the crap they have on since Ardern came in is BS? Why hasnt HRNZ gone into bat for the restricted punters to the TAB as the way it is at the moment is costing them big dollars in lost revenue? Harness racing needs to wake up before there is not a product!
-
Thanks for that Robalan, hadnt heard of this! Lunacy once again! What happens to the horse when it finishes racing? What a load of bollacks again! What has it got to do with HRNZ?????! Do dog and cat owners need to advise anyone what they have done with their pets? Bunch of Dickheads being paid by the actual workers!!! And yes you are correct stake money has not increased in decades!
-
Chief, you are correct, the last 2 whip rules are just blatantly stupid! How they were passed by a consensus is hard to understand? Thats right there was no consensus, The new Greyhound CEO brought it in when it was a not agreed upon and then it was amended as it was stuffed up!! The current one is crazy as well and there was nothing wrong with the one that worked for decades! The rule regarding interference and enquiries is also stupid and totally needs changing and there is no fairness in it at all!

Yeah no.s did use to drop off in Winter but with so much more racing nowadays it is probably the best time to be racing your horse unless it is very talented. Once the AllStar horses are back your chances of winning are reduced significantly. I believe that many owners are now saying to hell with racing a horse if it is not viable. If a decent offer comes in they are keen to take it with both hands and this is going to continue. New people have to be introduced to harness racing or it is going to continue to decline. People are not breeding as many horses as there used to be! Not enough new owners are coming in. Older trainers will give it away and it is very difficult for most young ones to be able to make a living out of training! Finally, the NZ TAB have far too many stupid restrictions on punters On harness racing that does not make it attractive enough to continue to introduce and retain the punter!!!!!!! Without the punting dollar on harness things are going to make it financially unviable for harness racing to thrive!!!!

Is Addington starting to struggle for horses to race like Auckland has been?? Friday nights meeting has only 79 nominations for the 10 races which is very low numbers! There is a meeting as well in Canterbury on Sunday but maybe it is starting to show that we have not enough horses in work i. Canterbury now to fill the fields for 2 Meetings a week? I do know from looking at the export lists that there are still heaps going to Ozzie, and most are race winners! Owners are really starting to feel the financial effects of the training costs etc. compared to what they are able to receive in stake money! The stake money on the face of it appears ok but if you factor in the costs of being able to race, then it is a pointless exercise if you think you are able to make it pay! Unfortunately there are several reasons why stake money has not kept up with the costs involved and unless these are rectified then harness racing is going to struggle . Was it last year that we had the BRAINSTORMING meetings between the harness participants but has there really been any improvements in the condition of the industry?

Spellbound is retired Gamma. Broodmare paddock for her unfortunately due to an injury she received when she came back to Cambridge to race in THE MILE! Devastating for the connections but thats racing I suppose, one minute you are up and then the next you are down! Racing can be a roller coaster

Good interview with Craig Edmonds at Oamaru today after the win with Ellantine by Unhinged Nigel asked him what a day in his life involved? Craig stated that he is up and working at the stables at 5 in the morning!!! Seriously, you need to be so dedicated to be wanting to be up in Winter outside at 5.0 am!!! Yes I appreciate it is what they have to do to make a living but they really do deserve every bit of success they get for what they have to put up with. Not all trainers are up at 5am in the morning but geez I do not know how you could keep doing it, week in and week out 7 days a week especially if you aren't getting results? Far far easier ways of making a living I wouldve thought but then we need them or we would not have anything to punt on!
-
Galah, think u pretty well summed it up, but all 3 shouldve gone much better in the straight! None of them showed what they shouldve after having easy runs so think there must be a virus as I doubt they wouldve missed work due to the weather! Mossdale Mac has gone far better than it did, Enghein showed little and King of Love just stopped after having a cozy run! Something amiss with the team,
-
Not sure why, but the Greg and Nina Hope team have gone Nil tonight? Nina will probably advise us why, must be a virus thru the racehorses as I have never seen them all go so poor, Mossdale Mac, Enghein and King of Love showed nothing in the straight after having very easy runs, after all 3 going well at their last starts! With the runs they had they all shouldve been in the first couple but no they showed NOTHING! Puzzling indeed!
-
Watching tonight you just wonder what the owners are thinking when their horse is given no chance of getting the money? Personally can not see much value in paying out thousands of dollars each month for your horse not to be put into the race! Drivers just sitting until into the straight after having a cozy run on the outside and not moving, to me is very frustrating! There is a huge void between the very good drivers and the others unfortunately! Drivers that just sit should be given the hard word from the Stipes but they are far too busy watching the drivers who use the whip that doesnt suit their limp wrist way!!!!!!
-
I would be very worried what it would do to your veges! Super veges but wouldn’t be eating them

Edward Rennell to replace Glenda Hughes as CEO of GRNZ
Brodie replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Dog Chat
to be fair there a a lot of people in CEO jobs that are not that flash! NZ current Prime Minister until next year is just full of BS a d ably assisted by all the other Labour useless GITS! The citizens that voted them back in could not have done a better job of reelecting the most incompetent bunch ever! What is it that Rennell’’s job description with the Greyhounds involve? Seems like it would be a very cruisey number, so he should be pretty good at it! Overpaid and under achieving is what you will get but then that js why the racing industry is in such a poor state! Dont expect much from McAnulty unless you want to be bullied! -
At least there is no whips on Greyhounds used!
-
No need whatsoever to race at Addington over 1609 metres! There are so few of them it is pointless chucking them in, and the reason they dont run them is that they damn well know it is a crazy starting point! It was good to see Ashburton race over 1700 metres yesterday because it gives horses a bigger run i to the first bend. Why dont they race over 2800metres instead of the 2600 metres if they think there is nothing wrong with starting on a bend? Lets have 2200 metre races at Addington just for a change? Just crackpot idea to race over 1609m for no purpose and smaller field! Just picked up that WithA Dream had mentioned Ashburton.
-
Na, it isnt on a bend Ranga! Far better on a bend according to the programmer!
-
Is there someone out there that can sponsor Brent Weaver into a whip for Ashburton? Not sure what the go is, but for some reason Brent Weaver has no whip to take to the races tomorrow for his 3 horses he has engaged? Rocket Man, Tres Magnifique and Elephantintheroom are all being driven with Mr Weaver WHIPLESS!!! Is it that he is running some type of protest as I note he was fined $200 by the Stewards for incorrect use a wee while ago on Rocket Man? Or is it that he has lost his whip or even is he trialing whether his horses go better without the whip or even an advocate for S.A.F.E? Bit of a puzzle really but someone will know what the reason is, hopefully he is vigorous with the reins!
-
One race over a mile is one too many! Why dont they have races over 2200 metres at Addington for a change???? What about 2800metres for a change? The day of getting black print by racing sprint races over a mile is over as just about anything can go under 2.0 minute mile rates! Was that trotters race anymore exciting over the stupid mile than over 1980 metres? Certainly wasnt for the connections of the 2 that broke! Anyway it is harness racing’s loss by programming stupid programs , Brodie will focus on wagering on the races that matter!
-
Whoever decided to program a 1609m mobile for trotters, GIVE YOURSELF AN UPPERCUT! What another stupid programming decision to run a race at Addington on a bloody bend! You have once again seen that no race should ever be run over a mile at Addington !!!!!! It is lunacy and if you think it is a worthy distance at Addington you are deluded! What is the point in starting a race at the worst possible position on the track, of course you are going to get horses breaking and others disadvantaged! Seriously????
-
You are totally correct, the race is now nothing like it used to be with the best horses all starting off their season. To be fair though if AllStars Stable had their horses ready to race it would be even worse, as they would clean up as usual. It is a bit average though when they are racing for $15k and the non winning trotters are racing for a few grand less. Anyway if you are having a go tonight good luck, hope you get plenty.

Who Would’ve Thought?? Addington half of the field!!
Brodie replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
Reality is that you only need to look thru the fields of the tighter class racing at Addington and see the stake money earned by the horses. Many earn say $100k for example Prince Teka has won a bit over $100k for 115 starts and nine wins. Yes it is owner trained but imagine if it was trained by a fulltime trainer all the stake money would be eaten up by the training costs and doubt there would be anything left. Yes a lot of enjoyment for the connections no doubt which is all it can be as you couldnt do it for the financial purpose. Not hard to make $100k legally without the effort and length of time involved racing horses nowadays. -

Brodie replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
Michael House continues to train what seems to be a helluva lot lf horses. Most of them seem to have come from other trainers and I am wondering if there is some type of training for a percentage of the stake money arrangement going on?? If there is, I can not see how it is profitable for him with the cost of everything nowadays! If a horse was in work for a full year without much of a break, it would cost approx. $30,000 I would estimate. Therefore a horse would need to be winning possibly 5 races in that year to break even! You can see why syndication is becoming more popular and going to be very difficult to attract new owners, with the increased cost of living! Michael House deserves credit for keeping fields up in size not only at Palmy but Addington as well now!
