Will never get to grips with how such a tragedy takes place . Have lost too many friends same way, one was on phone to us, hung up , went to bed and passed away in his sleep 15 minutes later. Medically not one cause showed up . They call it ASDS ( Adult Sudden Death Syndrome ). Maybe more research should be done, that someone like Greg in prime of his life should be taken like this is beyond comprehension .

Fair enough about Auckland, so you don't need them. But God forbid there was ever another quake as by far the outside city donating the most aid money was..... Auckland .In all probability they don't need you anymore than you need them. Can still remember the news reports of how many moved up to Auckland after the quake until things settled down again . Guess Auckland was needed then.....

Back in 1972 I was just starting HS but remember a relative ringing my dad with what he said was a hot tip for Simon DeMountfort in Wellington Cup . My dad couldn't stop laughing and told him a donkey like that wouldn't be getting a dollar of his, as we know paid over $ 180 ? , what would that be in today's money ? When he rang to congratulate relative, he hadn't backed it either. Only Cup was ever there for was 1979, ( down from Auckland ) had $ 10 a win on Cubacade which was a lot then for me, a terrible ride from Jimmy Walker who went straight to front on a back runner. Next year comment in paper was along lines of Jimmy Walker wouldn't be repeating worst ride of his career this time. Didn't back it second time and from memory, went back in field and bolted in. -
Interesting some of the comments on Aussie forums after the race. One tosser remarked all she is doing is winning on provincial tracks and no champion at this stage , right..... so Flemington is now a provincial track LOL Another " Mate, she's a cat..... hasn't come down to Sydneey " Hard cases those Auusies, yet if she was one of their own they'd be hailing her as next superstar.

Right there, understand lawyers now engaged.

You see some bad ones at times but that one of Gerald Shand's on Aires Gold in Race 11 Sunday was plain incompotent. . Not only stuffed up his own horse but took second favourite Buddy Reign out of contention with tactics. Surprised, he only got six days suspension when he admitted his guilt. I'd say at $ 5 , there would be more than a few Buddy Reign backers who would have liked to get hold of him.

Brings back memories, cousin was Promtions Manager for Montana when that came out. Had to lead ducklings on a leash around Lynmall as part of the promotion.

HRNZ CEO Gary Woodham has serious medical event

Interesting my friend in Canada developed heart problems out of nowhere 2 weeks after 1 st shot. He went to the top cardiologist in Toronto who told him probably the vaccine responsible . Cardiologist said he had never had so many young people in twenties, turning up with heart problems when previously as healthy as oxes. All had had the vaccine. Take it as you will, I had the 3 shots myself so wasn't anti but this is the sort of stuff that we didn't see reported over here. If people heard from both sides they could make up their own minds to have or not have but that never seemed much of a choice. -
Quite nice to give it back to Aussie tipsters, one not picked her in 5, another in 4. TV comment was she was undervalued on tote and NZ form might not be enough to get her there.

Another One Gone for the worst of reasons. Condolences to all concerned.

And sadly the moronic anti racing brigade are exploiting tragedy for their own ends. Reading Twitter yesterday these low lifes saying accident was obviously caused by horse being doped with embalming fluid and racing should be banned. These hopeless bastards wouldn't know one end of a horse from another but would push their warped agenda anyway they can. -
Think it was Leith Innes making the statement.

It's got worse for sure , but goes back quite a way in lacking quality . I remember backing Ralph Manning's horse when it won at big odds. years back When the reporter asked him how it felt to win such a time honored race, his reply was " Well basically in quality it is just a race for highweight horses and that is all it takes to win it " Must have been around 1997 ? To rub it in, the horse had bolted down the road that morning and done a fair bit of running already.

Great tipping in last at Caufield with Ageon. Comment was " Couldn't be entertained " At that stage was about $ 5 mark. Someone should be looking out for new job Monday. Comment on Caufield Cup winner was " For a place only " . Convinced the way to make money is to the one they give the bum's rush too.

Yes, the owner had a heart attack in birdcage just after they interviewed him and tragically didn't make it.

From memory the last Northern jockey to die as direct result of race fall was December 1964 when leading apprentice Stephen Ganley died at Paeroa, the day they reopened the track.

He was probably only jockey I've heard booed all way back from coming in, was Avondale Guinneas and he came 5 th ? on Little Brown Jug. We all backed Owens which won at about $ 37 from memory. He got unnerved by stewards taking him aside befor the race and laying down expectations for his first Northern ride, he sort of froze and never moved a muscle until all over. Think David Peake replaced him for the ride in Derby, be about 1979 ?

One was Oscar Peterson I think. He had a top 2 year old in the day, Testing Times which was sold to U.S.

I'm sure it was Stoch Tar that went into a wild gallop at Alex Prk one night and looked to be quarter of a lap behind. Reg said " Throw your tickets away on the favourite " When he started to make ground in icredible fashion, Reg yelled " You better go and look for those tickets " He got up and won ! Some amazing horses around in those days.
