  1. Gave up Harness race driving for golf and because of a 'Dummy Spit ' it seems. What a tragedy. Maybe he Should make a come back now that Allstars gone. ? A Good horseman and racing is somewhat easier than shoeing all the time. Get some reward for effort. Here's a 2018 extract with some Phil quotes :............. I love my golf and I want to play a bit more of that – perhaps even try and qualify for a few tournaments.” It’s been a quiet final season for Butcher – just nine winners – and he says he gets a feeling that perhaps the game has passed him by a bit. A recent misconduct charge for an on-track verbal incident resulted in a $600 fine and that was seemingly the straw that broke the camel’s back. “I promised myself that if I ever got charged again with something I didn’t deserve, I would finish up. There have been plenty of highlights for the 52-year-old, though. “Winning the Noel J Taylor Mile with Abdias for dad (John Butcher) was probably my proudest moment.
  2. Was wondering where Philip Butcher got to , and so found this clipping from 2009. What a Ripper !, love this stuff ....lol, someone taking it right up to Allstars on the big days ! Gammalite thinks ALL stables should have TWO runners every race.! plenty of quality /exciting racing then ? Maybe Philip got a 'stretch on the sidelines" after this incident below? and never came back? VERY Ironic with Allstars team driving 'Accusations' over the years ...lol. WAIKATO REINSMAN Philip Butcher will face a second charge of improper driving when the hearing into his tactics on Awesome Armbro in the New Zealand Free-For-All resumes on Thursday. Butcher came in for vitriolic criticism after he attacked leader Auckland Reactor so mercilessly throughout the $250,000 feature that Awesome Armbro weakened dramatically, then broke turning in, finishing 77.5 lengths from the winner at Addington. His stablemate Changeover (David Butcher), to which he gave one-one cover, could manage only third. Stipendiary stewards initially charged Butcher with driving in a manner capable of diminishing the chances of his own horse winning, but were forced to adjourn their hearing when the driver failed to respond to their summons, leaving the course abruptly for a flight back to Auckland, where he had further drives. After studying videos of the Geoff Small-trained horse's previous races, the stewards have now laid the further charge, presumably learning that the horse is never driven so aggressively – his sit-and-sprint style earned him second place in last year's free-for-all. The connections of Auckland Reactor (fifth) had heated words with Butcher after the race and said he should be charged with team driving and an act detrimental to harness racing, given the public perception of the race run on one of the code's most high-profile days.
  3. More of an Abyss than a 'void to fill' with Alexy helping being the 'Void' filler. Pretty impressive to get to 300 starts though. What a tough effort that is. Imagine the truck miles covered ??? Check out this bloke , an old kiwi, having his 400th start next week at Albion Park. (300 odd sub 2.00 minute miles , must be near a record effort I would think) LANCELOT BROMAC NZ View at HRA Online Foal Date 31 October 2009 Colour / Sex BAY GELDING Sire ART MAJOR USA Dam LIFE OF LUXURY (NZ) Broodmare Sire LIVE OR DIE USA Owner(s) S W Dickson, M J Manners Breeder(s) Bromac Lodge Ltd, Cee Bee Holdings Ltd Trainer S W Dickson Gait PACER Class NR49 Lifetime Summary: 399-28-62-50 Stakes: $316,181 Best Winning Mile Rate: 1:53.8
  4. Most of the crooked shit with punters leaving the game , involves horses that don't give them a run for their money. So often at the trots there are 'Galloping ' runners. Some punters would be sick of that after JUST one loss. Why would anyone want to lose in that fashion? (Galloping out the back) might as well back Ellerslie , Trentham and Riccarton and still be 'In The Field" with a runners chance at least. This horse has bad barrier manners (Tiger Moth) so seems to be badly away quite often. Today a pitiful field that only came home last 1/2 in 60 seconds. Anything with a tick of ability could win by 7 lengths in that case.
  5. Well Cran already has 'form on the board' with CHRISTEN ME and 11 Group 1's , even racing against Allstars ??? wow , he sure knows how to do it. ELSU was a great horse in the north (6 Group 1's) don't know what happened to his trainer? Maybe ALL the Butcher Boys could get togeather and have a SUPER STABLE ,???? John Butcher won a few in his day. Barry Purdon still in action at Clevedon, always goes well, I would send anything that runs good right handed up to him for sure. What about the MONKEY KING people ?? Reid in the north and Hill in the South islands. They had great results with the Monkey so surely know what they are doing? give them some good horses and away you go............ .......
  6. Well there is a nice 'Sweet Lou ' colt for you Karrots. anything like the DEALER and he'll be winning. Bit of a dodgy name lol......like a kids Pony name.... Like Karrots !! lol....... sure you didn't name him ?
  7. Well whether Danielle and/or Colgan were 'punished' for Trying too hard is proving debateable. It was a Group 1 so give it all you've got is the right idea there. Bloody Ryan Maloney , punished the nation at the Gold Coast, stupidly getting onto heels like a learner with the Hot favourite ISOTOPE in a Million dollar to the winner Group1 on Sat. Should have the book thrown at him IMO. cost himself, owners , punters probably 100's of thousands of dollars? around the country (countries). Ironically he won that same race (Magic millions guineas ) last year with ALLIGATOR BLOOD. Since it was disqualified some time after, wonder if he has to give back the approx $100,000 riding Fee ??? lol. Double loser ??
  8. Quite a challenge is controlling these beasts through the run of a race . Jockeys asked to do their very best and Win. I find it amusing when the best (danielle Johnson) win 4 races on the day, and run 2nd in the feature. Levin Classic, to another TOP rider and well credentialled horse. Then cops criticism . That's after copping the 'Bump' that the suspended jockey gave Brando as well. So all the issues that Freda and Chief mentioned all come into the Picture. Result is therefore affected. Very hard to win after that. Horse did very well with solid closing second placing. Stewards need to take action. (By demand of everybody) suspension given.
  9. My opinion is Moana is heading in a 'different ' direction to every other runner. Why should Danielle have to change her line because the suspended guy is coming out from behind that horse in front of it. Collision imminent and 'Insufficiently clear' to avoid contact seems certain. Guilty as charged.
  10. Today 200km from Sydney , one of the Greatest NZ horses ever, won the Goulburn Cup . A horse that has WON in the colours of the Three major barns of NZ and Aus.!!! What a feat that is alone ! still raced by Robert and John Dunn I think. He is a beauty. !! ALTA ORLANDO did the usual AllStars thing and won his 4 juvenile races impressively , driven by Nat while trained at AllStars in 2014. Tragically going amiss so badly , that he was virtually a 'Giveaway" and the Dunn's and staff did the 'miracle' of patching him up and he raced again 2 years later !! wow.!! ALTA ORLANDO had one start for one win in each of 2016 and 2017 . Too unsound to have any continuance of career. He came back winning 5 races straight !! through early 2018 , an amazing effort by All the Dunn team to achieve this, alas the form tapering off early 2019. SO , over to Luke McCarthy stable and a winter 2019 try at Brisbane , and a great 2nd (worth 42k too ! ) to the local Hero COLT THIRTY ONE in a Group 1. He has had about 30 starts for only 6 wins at McCarthy's , but about 6 x second's to illustrious stable-mate KING OF SWING in the past 6 months. Including 1.48.8 mile times , made up of 54.4 second half miles back to back to go that fast . SERIOUSLY , WHO goes That fast ??? So today the little Champ was packed off to backwater Goulburn to pick up 16k and get away from KOSwing for a change. WELL DONE to everyone involved. getting him back to the races ! just the 18 wins from the 85 starts but ONE of the GREATEST anyway !
  11. Jamie Richards
  12. Let's hope he kisses and makes up too, and says "Well done" and commends the 4 winning rides by DJ. Kiss first , talk Later......
  13. Thanks for the race ! that was an easy win for VE. 'Shut the Gate " commentator said , End of story alright. Talk about 'Ruakaka maiden win ' as a 'bit of a yarn', 39 years ago , almost to the day, I travelled (with another young teen lad ) in the back of one of those big 9-horse Takanini horse transporters up to the 'Shifty Red " sandy harness racing track at RUAKAKA, and he won his VERY FIRST race that day , in a Air NZ Junior drivers race. god knows where I finished. DARK and DUSTY (only ever won 2 races lol) driven by the future Champion of the sport MARK PURDON . ....
  14. Hahah yeah only 8pm here, maybe Waller could get Greyhounds. He is always keen for a big stable. They make noise when 'Strangers' are around, so can do away with the dobermans eating his staff accidently. AND he could do like a BIGTIME COLE racing monopoly at the dogs in Aus ?
  15. Hey Chief Here is a Stat for you . This Line-up of thoroughbreds has had combined 187 Race starts for 63 Wins. Standardbred GAMMALITE had 179 Race Starts for 94 WIns (16 Group 1's) Am I therefore better than all them combined??? hahahaha
  16. Kolding won the Golden Eagle so that must be at least 5 million, Nature Strip and VE about 4 group 1's each. Crikey it must be huge amount of dollars earnings
  17. That's what 10 million plus on legs looks like in a trial workout. I can see why WALLER didn't bother going to Gold Coast to see his 2 year old win the $1.1 million today then. When you have this lot in the barn at home , that was just chicken-feed.
  18. Sired by champion Peter. That would give you some Tactical Ability.! She's got 4 today now !!! Is champion Chris Johnson related ?? 2452 WINS , well that's just crazy good. Reckon I would barely of WATCHED that many races , let alone seeing someone win that many at our age. A true NZ Champion of ALL time !
  19. Fantastic ride in that Classic by your girl Lisa , as Chief mentioned above too. Think she rode that well actually, that she had Brando covered , even if another 100m. Thats great Te Akau and Danielle have such good opposition. !!!! Ruins it if someone wins absolutely everything.
  20. Easy to see Why you are so impressed with Te Akau , Chief , with those results today. Didn't quite win the G1 Levin Classic but nearly did and Danielle Johnson hadn't heard of before (don't watch NZ racing until today) ,but wow she rode well and a few winners. a real match for Jamie Kah i reckon. Have seen the great Melody Belle a few times and Sharkie too in Oz . What a great team /results they have !!!!!!
  21. Hahah Yeah problem is He has No skill at all galloping in hopples. Made a right mess of it. Poor Craig Thornley and Jim Curtin (trailing him in the race) did an amazing job to stay in their sulkies when Spitfire 'Danced to a standstill' at Ashburton when they were following along the inside in the running. Take hopples off and give him a REAL good hitout in a fast gallop, would help. (Vinny Knight did that often)
  22. From what Brodie and Karrots are saying about All the galloping Spitfire does at races and trials , he is only ON THE UP for a start at Riccarton or Trentham. lol
  23. Fight that urge Chief !! self isolate if necessary ! Quarantine essential for those thoughts.
  24. No it doesn't. The Waller incident he got off in 2013 (even with 2 positive swabs! ) 'External' people at the Feed mixing place WRONGLY mixed Wallers feed order with someone elses. So Feed supplier got the blame. How convenient. Makes you wonder who the Contaminated order was really for ??? were they after a positive ?? hahaha.....
  25. Definitely !! Warner the bad egg, + 2 other Eggheads, was weeded out for deliberate cheating ( but back unfortunately) rest of organisation carried on ............ In Waller's case , an organisation that big is going to be Bad Egged for sure. The more numbers , the more chance? of staff that is. Like on BOAY lol..... 10 posters might be good, 100 posters there will be some Rotten Eggs ........lol.
