I see that Guerin is doing cartwheels of glee at Cambridge getting this "Race" next year.
What has Cambridge done to deserve it?.Why should this new race be suddenly worth more than the NZ cup? How on earth does this race help grassroots racing? Don't these hard working folk deserve a share of any booty for putting in so much hard work?
And lots more questions. It leaves me very uneasy.
My congrats to those who participated at Ashburton today___all the jockeys, starting gate attendants etc and the horses. We have had several days of a north wester, and it's not been easy. The wind, dust, heat, and I lost my hat three times in the Main Street
Agree. There is some very silly speculation occurring on another site as to who might be guilty of what. I think they should all calm down, have a mallowpuff and let the wheels of justice do their thing .
It appears that they are the driving force behind the club, both holding committee positions. And it's good to see that the course is still being used locally by other groups.
As a sidenote, I see that Chris Waller had a starter in the 1997 Tapanui Cup. Tapanui and Winx, an interesting progression.
I see that Princess Melay won the 19
Thanks. I see that Princess Melay won the 1970 Tapanui cup two starts after winning the NZ cup ...so the place has got something going for it.
There's only one thing that can possibly be worse than some of these presenters. And that's the procession of former Aussie cricketers lining up to try and be commentators on the Ashes. Dreadful.
I drove through the town once. That was enough.
Anyone got any memories, good or bad, of the old Tapanui racecourse. Any particularly good horses race there?
And good luck for anyone trying to predict what conditions will be like in Ashburton. I am staying here at the moment, and in the last 24 hours we've had everything from drizzle to warm drying winds. I feel sorry for the weather forecasters trying to predict what might come next.
My knowledge of harness racing stems from November 1992. Prior to that it's vague. But I can leave it to know it all Boer War veterans like yourself to fill in the gaps.
Some of the nonsense being spouted as "fact" by people who still struggle with tying their shoelaces is alarming. Some of the know it alls on social media need to take a deep breath.
To summarize, leaving aside the enigma that is Kumara, three of the most successful southern meetings are at courses where tracks and facilities are run and maintained by locals and volunteers, and bird shit is scrubbed off seats by committee members. Yet these are the ones that the nobs repeatedly want to close.?? Cut off the heartland to fund the elite. There, it's all quite simple.
Thanks. I am not particularly interested in the big city race tracks, but it's the smaller provincial courses that hold my interest. That's where the grass roots racing industry flourished, and I think we lose that connection with the heartland at our peril.
Of course, the suits might see it differently.
It's good that the Cromwell visit inspired you re racing. Cromwell and Central Otago always has that effect on me.
Are there any definite plans re the extension of the Reefton track? Or is that in the pending basket?
