I did some research, interesting character, must have been some money in shoes, probably a different kettle of fish these days. Finished in 89, died in 08 at 85, was a traveler, Greymouth ,Forbury and Hutt Park and Auckland with Mighty Me, some of these guys probably enjoyed loading up the truck and hitting the road, a bit of a adventure, now a lot of those venues are gone, such is life.

What actually happened to Graham Holmes, am I correct or not that he got struck by a tyre or something that came of a vehicle, there was something strange about his misfortune, I may be completely off track on this one, correct me if I'm wrong, I think it was about this time of year too, I might be wrong on that one as well, but I I'm pretty sure Johny Lincolm was Rob and his transport ministers venture into horse ownership, there was more than one Colin Mac, I cant spell the full name off the cuff but most will know who o mean, there was the guy who use to have the green colors, wasn't he a shoe salesman or something gee I'm moving off topic but hey it's all interesting i guess. I might even do some research myself, always good to keep the mind ticking over.

Raced over a mile at Washdyke against the pacers, was run down by Locarno close to home, burnt the rest of them off, some horse really, that race is on you tube somewhere.

I see Noodlum won at Addington on January 24 1974, must be about the same time almost to the day that Dick Taylor won the 10000 meters at the games, happy memories.

Hutt Park was where he run his last race, Wellington Cup was his swansong, maybe you picked me up wrong in my comment. As I stated before looking back I think harness racing today is a shadow of those times, after the cup meeting there was the miracle mile at Addington then they moved on to Auckland at xmas, new year then Addington new year then Hutt Park, then Forbury, there was a continual stream of top class horse races. Times change, not always for the better but we still have to live in the present.

I think I'm right on this one, how can I remember that but forget Oamaru was even on today? I think Johny lincoln was trained or driven by another of the Holmes gang, anybody know?
  12. Who are you referring too? I must say I dont watch trackside that much these days.

Shame he wasn't as durable as Alexy, might have won 150 races with a average strike rate🙂

Just looking at some of those results, seems to me today's racing is only a shadow of those times, times move on though, it's nice to reflect on the past but we still have to live in the present, simple really.

You may be right, I'm not going back there, Commissioner may have beaten him twice.

42 starts , 28 wins, not bad, I was right on the Boxing day loss, only a head in it, a horse that won that many in a row probably had developed a swelled head but not big enough lol. Lost again a week later when beaten by Parlez Vous, Milnes horse from Edendale. Didnt quite reach the same heights later in his career, finished up at Hutt Park, cup meeting, I think had some injury issues but nonetheless less one of the better ones to have raced.

Noodlum, won a heap in a row, set some record, I do remember the day he got beat though, it made the news, horse named Commissioner (not sure about the spelling though), think it was at Ashburton, may have been boxing day, cant remember, gee I dont know everything, in fact when I think about it I dont know anything. I'm gunna have a look at the records on hrnz, after going there I will at least know something.
  19. Saturday nights racing was once the only game in town, nowdays you have rugby , cricket league etc etc on telly so it's been pushed to the back burner. The biggest change in night racing is that very few night meetings go much past nine o cock, changing times aye I never even looked at the fields
  20. Saturday night racing,a rarity so why all of a sudden one night out of the blue is there anyone there anyway.
  21. Did I read that New Plymouth was put off midweek, if that's true I can honestly say I didnt even know.
  22. Cant they race tomorrow?
  23. $50000 quaddie today and the good oil knocks off at 5 but last races after 5, brilliant.
  24. Well covering races to suit the general race followers cant be that difficult, just listen right now to senz with the cricket, despite the fact the commentators are all working at home it's ok, it's not hard. And just to add today while the main race at Cromwell was being run they were talking to some guy who breeds horses, surely there could be a better time to talk other horse matters, maybe not when they are actually racing
  25. That was the radio, had to leave early for the cricket which started at 5, no problem there but they could easily shift it over to the app, as for watching trackside on the senz app, I think it's only trackside 1 , and it just burns up ya data watching video, probably your battery too, as for the simulcast, I listened in when having a cuppa about the time of the first at Orari, was fine until the races got busier, then it just switches around all over the place, someone suggested they simulcast both trackside channels seperately, it dont really bother me know more but as I've said before its airy fairy, now today right now on the radio they have Addington yet the big meeting at Cromwell nothing it's all over the place, such is life, seems the people making the important decisions dont know what they are doing, yet devoting hours of time to cricket no problem, I have no problem with that full coverage as opposed to racings bits and pieces. We've been over it enough times as well as other subjects, nought really changes.
