17 horses trained in Dunedin area, including Mosgiel and 20 in the greater area, central and south otago plus Waikouaiti,is that many, hard to know but your claim about poor fields,in reality pretty much the same as what's been going around most meetings these says, despite everything will be interesting to see how it stacks up results wise.
-
I kind of think Forbury tend to get the poor rub of the green these days, most of their other meetings this season are midweek wedged in between canterbury and southern meetings and then they have the 5 winter meetings.
-
Be interesting to see how Forbury fare as opposed to the same old Southland thursday setup,a 5 05 start time is a odd time to start, its kinda right in the middle of the aussie races which whether we like it or not do attract a large following, one thing I noticed on friday on betfair when Ascot park raced the first race had a matched bet amount of just under 20000,and as the day progressed amount bet was reducing every race, theory being that a lot of ozzie money may have been invested early before they get going themselves, getting back to Forbury will racing in competition to the oz gallops at night be better for the tab than a day meeting in Southland, that's the question.

I see Orari is getting 31000 less funding for its days racing,is this less funding across all the clubs,is this due to less turnover or some other factor?
-
I could comment but you've already said all that's needed to be said

Someone posted betting figures a year or two ago from some meetings,it was on course and off course figures individually,Ascot Park ran a meeting on a wed or thursday in November I think it was and the total on course betting was 18000 and that's let's not beat around the Bush, fuck all, however like probably a lot of meetings a lot of punting is done on phone so figures are recorded as off course,I dont know what a clubs take is as in regard to on and off course turnover so maybe a bet placed on course or off is just treated as the same,as I said before maybe the times come that on course betting on non event meetings is all done by devices saving the tab money, just pure economics. While we slag off the TAB decision makers a lot of the time for some of the decisions they make, maybe some are hard to accept because we resist change. I spose it's a bit like the council's putting on a bus service around town and then carrying 4 people, simple fact is do they keep running something at a loss or ditch it,there are ways and means around every situation.
-
How would it work, its still nice to know what bets are placed within a venue.
-
I actually noted on tv on thursday it looked like a out 12 cars parked on the grass in front of stand at Winton,be fair to say there would have been less at Ascot Park next day,but its costing someone to provide a service.
-
Another thought is they may not have been able to go because they wanted to stay home and watch the greyhounds from Wadonga and Darwin, just too important to miss.
-
I personally recon if the TABare looking at reducing cost maybe the time has come for no on course betting as such, depending on how many turn up,I would say many and probably soon most will bet on their smartphone and that's ok as long as the club dont miss out.we are on changing times.

I'd say everybody's gunna have bad wind today😬☹🙁
-
President of the club states it's a chance for the club to redeem themselves, what have they done wrong?
-
2 days racing in Southland yesty and today, probably only a handfull of people.maybe these meetings could be no oncourse betting as such, its costing a lot for perhaps little return
-
Someone should run a competition for sunday, after Methven there is room for improvement.
-
No one has fronted from harness nz as to why Gore and Wyndham are on hold, explanations would be good.
-
Just had a quick look at winton, must have been 10 cars parked and probably 10 people, should the tab have oncourse setup for so few?
-
In all reality what do you put on a show although it would have been nice to see someone from hrnz explaining why there is basically no racing in Eastern Southland, why Forbury lost meetings and yet strangely got them back, those sort of issues make good viewing. In reality it is just a chat show, see it for what it is.
-
It probably is a 5 day stand down, but then it also depends probably on who you are as well.
-
Tab any other betting place never make money out of winners, losers are most welcome, gee they even give me their money to bet with(bonus)it always goes back so it's one of the reasons for now I'm just taking a break🙂
-
In all seriousness I know what you mean, smartphone sometimes changes word,I do it too but I make sure I got it right before posting, sometimes anyway sometimes the word clue when typing is rather handy at times.

Yew got the od smelling mistake dood.

There are actually 31 meetings this season in Otago and Southland, that dont include Kurow and Oamaru, they are sort of in between Canterbury and Otago so 31 meetings Dunedin South,so in reality nought much changes,if they are running standalone days and a lot basically are then maybe a few gaps could be plugged,as long as they have the winter racing in hannon shield area it ain't that bad, will still be at Riccarton for the main meetings, one leading trainer in the south has once stated he didn't want less meeting, wanted more, simple reality got to have numbers(fields and interest, betting)and weather, all the southern meetings have done pretty well this season but could have just as easy had all bad days weather wise, only difference between a wet day at Te Rapa and Riverton is it's simply colder but the weather is what it is,cant control it.
-
I wouldn't worry about things too much,Riccarton only race twice in June and not in July at all at present in June and July 5 meetings are held at( Oamaru 2 and Washdyke 3),throw in 2 at Wingatui and 1 Ashburton all weather track or not no reason why the status quo remains, throw in some midweekers at Riccarton,it could be better for all, maybe? One of the things harness racing has with AWT is the ability to race consistently all year round but probably have reached it max as in numbers of racedays.maybe the gallops could have some more, alot of those Riccarton meetings will probably only cater for the locals and there are probably enough horses to do that. I notice Cambridge have Wednesday meetings planned every fortnight and on the other week it reverts back to grass racing somewhere so in reality a lot of tracks will remain, probably but may not get the shit beaten out of them running low class industry meetings in winter,as for the cost of maintaining these tracks well that's another issue.
