There has always been that public perception, ever since I started following Harness in the mid 60,s, when they were as bent as a dogs hind leg. I think it as admiral idea and good on the ATC. Never mind you naysayers who would be the first to jump up and down if your horse carrying your hard earned money was "tampered " with by skulduggery.

Gonna stick my neck on the line here. Race 7 No 2 Heisenburg. A natural front runner, who might just make them chase hard and some of the fav ones are from back line and out wide over 1980mtrs. At 24,s on FF. Will be getting some of my money tonight.

Isn't there an underlying fear here that eventually we may see an Australasian icon highjacked totally by NH horses , which to my eyes has started already. It's like having half the field in an Arc Dr Triomphe from down under. Or is the Melbourne Cup overrated.

Dont yah just love it. I remember when I was a late teenager at Trentham with an older friend. It was a very very wet day and his girlfriend picked names that related to water because of the rain. Half the cards winners had names related to water including one called Curly Wave that some may remember. Ive never forgotten that day. Bloody frustrating for someone trying to pick using form.

Kyvalley Blur . If the race was any longer than this I wouldnt but he is quick and wont die wondering with typical Aussie drive.. He did run well here last year as well. Apart from that my fav Pats Delight again and my mates horse Jacks Legend. Should be a great day.

No one interested Basil by the look of it. Im old enough to remember going a whole day without taking a picture though. I think it is indicative of the quality of this years field. Much like the days of Hutt Park having the Wellington Cup full of open class pacers only to descend into a non event. ( mind you some of that was due to other factors as well ). Tiger Tara is the logical select going on the defections. Having raced against some pretty good opposition in the previous 4 yrs and showing some grit in the Victoria Cup he must be a chance. Not for me though. i think it is a year to soon for The Fixer, although the Allstars Barn may disagree, and mares (Dream About Me) winning the Cup are not common. I think genuinely, some may just get in the way of real chances this year ,due to the fact of their lower class ranking, and the downgrading allowed to make up a field. I think Jacks Legend is a live chance and my pick now that the others are out, providing he gets a favorable run ( see above). He peaked late and blew after the Chicago Bull race. He can only get better from that.

Forgotten how far ahead of the rest they were. Good times.

Well that opens it up somewhat. Both of my early picks are toast, a real; shame about Chicago Bull.

Well although not a great fan of TB,s one of my most endearing memorys was of a Kiwi horse that ran 3rd. Karu. (cant remember what year) The owners were friends of my sister and I had met them a couple of times. They owned a textile factory in Levin, if my memory serves me right. To have a horse in the race at all was special and memorable on its own. But the horse finished 3rd and for small town owners it was like winning Lotto. Sis said they celebrated for days. Sometimes the back story of placegetters and their connections illicit s more emotion than the winner.

I know it sounds strange, but years ago I did the same with another little horse called Borana. And yes I had a wager on him in the Cup. I just knew that when he started to show some semblance of form he held it for a few races and then tapered off. You had to know the time to punt him. Been a lot of water under the bridge since then.

Dough aside. He really is quite an exciting horse. I followed him through his trial period and he struck a cord with me. I hope he continues with it and makes it to Cup class.

First time in Country Cups and absolutely bloused them., at 10,s, candy from a baby. That will be the most he ever pays for a while. Top horse on the up. Yyyeeeeha

Yes he would back up for consecutive races . The cost is prohibitive considering the small returns unfortunately. Oh for the old days of "REAL " Interdominions. 1973 at Harold Park. Arapaho, Royal Ascot , Manaroa, etc, packed to the gunnels, hardly any standing room. Great stuff.

Quite correct Basil. We are still to make a decision whether to send Monty over or not. Expensive exercise and no travelling subsidy's. Father Xmas may start as he is domiciled at Brent Lilleys, but would only be competitive over the longer distances. One real revelation is Tornado Valley, since moving to Aussie. Cant fault the form and his last run was top class in the Cranbourne Cup.

And therein lies the result. Not for me. Place maybe but not the winner. I will stick to the only logical choise , the Ultimate grinder.

Some questions need to be asked here regarding the drug administered. It is a very powerful anti inflammatory medication. 1-Was the horse in some sort of muscular discomfort, or is it a standard procedure across the Harness industry for recovery. 2- Had this particular medication ever been administered before to the horse without a problem.( I somehow doubt it) 3- Would it not have been prudent to follow previous medication regimes using the same generic drug. ( that of course does not cast aspersions on the vet) .

Anaphylactic shock after intravenous drip for rehydration. Horse must have hit the deck very hard with 6 bones in wither broken. Terrible.
