  1. he doesn't go there (!) when commentating on doggies, mate. Only in the continuity announcing...its a way of 'buying time to think" without having 'dead air' on the wireless (the cardinal sin of 'live' broadcasting)
  2. nice start with the tipping barry b...
  3. sorry Secret Ambition is in R3
  4. Also like (but not 'longshots'): R1 First Rock -excellent debut 2nd R2 Secret Ambition - someone knows something for this to be $4.60 fresh-up with poor form last season ..class drop, I guess/trial win R8 Fancy More - talented Tavistock, absolutely flew home for 2nd last start; won on debut last prep, so clearly above average
  5. Pukekohe R5 No 3 The Kipling Girl. $9 and $3 Fixed at present. Really like her chances here - freshened and dropping back to 1600m - has won on the course over this distance, wont mind the Dead 5 surface, even better of there's a shower or two. (Has also won before after being freshened.) A genuine horse who hasn't had a lot of luck - 3 wins, 5 x 2nds and 7 other placings some in quite decent company. Big roomy straight will suit and has 3kg claim from in-form apprentice Wiremu Pinn. Can run handy but from an outside draw I'd refer her to settle back and come home fast! Worth a dollar or two each way.
  6. now, about Peter Early..there...he's very experienced. ah...there... and ah won't be sent out to pasture..ah, ..there..willingly. I did a little experiment some month ago ..counting the times her said that word..ah there... there... inside one minute//ah..there...there were at least 15 times he said ah..that word, there...there...
  7. Congrats to the Melody belle team..she is clearly Nz's best sprinter-miler Now, to Shafiq .... not for the first time he has nearly le the occasion get the better of him ... let go of the right rein when he know he had them covered near the post ....was prob ready for a victory flourish ...and nearly lost control of the horse!! Watch the slo-mo reply from front-on... norty boy!
  8. this mare is having a phenomenal run... Since beginning of the season, I'll' av Bubbles (twice, I think). Vintage Stock, I'll 'av' alf, The Other Half and (today) Le Sablier. Weasels are not know for their skill with maths but I make that 5 different winners from Philippa Glass in the last 6-7 weeks. Fabulous! Even more impressive they have won sprint and staying races, on the flat and over the jumps,in Nz and Oz !
  9. R8 Wanganui no 3 Windsor Resuming. Won on debut last Dec at Waipuk, has a couple of subsequent placings to his credit from a handful of starts. Only query is the track but if its improving from slow to a Dead 6 or 5 that will help. One to follow next up as well. Currently $7.50 FO and $11 tote.
  10. I confidently predict (make it my Bet of the Day) that Tommy TomTom will not join in with longshots for today until tomorrow
  11. I used to go across from NZ to Flemington every year to cover Cup Week for radio... after 2 years it was more fun to stay at home on Cup Day, do the form from the guisdes and watch it all on Tv, phoning in radio reports to NZ as if I were on track when actually 45 kms northwest, out in the boondocks of Kilmore..LOLHaing said that Derby Day was/is the BES day with al lthe different Group1s, so many champs or near-champs at the track, and alittle bit more breathing room on-course. Great memories.
  12. Silly silly Weasel has just realise you are going for Turnbull Day..crowd not so bad as Derby/Cup/Oaks week. If three of the six of you are female, and the only ones likely to wear high heels (but who knows these days!?) I suggest you DONT Or at least out a pair of comfy loafers in the bag! A day at Flemington is hard on your tootsies.
  13. 1 Take the train. 2 Arrive early. Leave late. Eat an enormous breakfast. 3 Put your bets on before you leave. 4 Stay sober and enjoy watching the rest get trashed. Some it is amusing; some of it downright ugly but unforgettable. 5 Pay through the nose for a Hil Stand ticket if there are any left. 6 Don't assume the weather will be tropical. I have been on Derby Day 29C by 12pm and on a Cup Day when the winner was appropriately named Subzero. Never got past 10C and I froze my arse off. 7 Have a fully charged Smartphone to ensure plenty of pics..and plenty of aussie cash. Enjoy.
  14. at least the connections of horses are able to race at the start of September on a DEAD4 surface! Bowl over that grandstand - still a disgrace - and replacer it with something decent and you'd have an excellent all-round facility north of Auckland
  15. mine, too... Grunt's close relative Ocean Park won a Cox Plate!
  16. GRUNT looks a might horse in the making. By O'Reilly - whose grand-dam is Hunza out of Ruqqaya (by Van Nistelrooy)...Ruqqaya's granddam is Eastern Princess, a granddaughter of Hunza
  17. Ruakak Race 8 Inanna - $35 and $7 FO. Will have benefited from first-up run same track a fortnight ago and appreciate lack of rain last few days. Has won at attractive odds at Ruakaka before
  18. No disrespect intended to a fine training team, but isn't it about time the ad for the Pitman stable on this site was updated? eg ...67 winners and 4th overall in 2017/18 premiership
  19. Couple of points to consider: You cant sire Derby and Oaks winners every year...but as the progeny get older the likelihood of good Cups horses looms large...Tavistock has already produced a New Zealand Cup winner! I expect Gobstopper will be aimed at a Cup defence. Tavistock has about 150 new season 3yos; I agree he's unlikely to produce precocious (2yo) speedsters. But his older mares are winning races - Tomelilla, Galaxy Miss, Zanyetta etc The fun starts soon with the 3yo colts and geldings.
  20. George is well aware of the pronunciation...he just says it now to take the piss ...you can almost hear him laughing his head off whenever he calls it
  21. Definitely Samuel ... not my boy, but belongs to close friends who allow me to share in their joy and disappointments. Pedigrees fascinate me, always have, but I'm no expert... just like to read up on stuff ...and the TrueNicks match up here is interesting. iffraaf-citw.pdf
  22. This little cutie is by Iffraaj - Candle In the Wind (Darci Brahma) born at Bradbury Park 7/9/18 Mum is a small mare who won 6 races, and $200k on the track, narrowly beaten in a City of Auckland Cup; This is her first foal.
  23. I can understand a commentator/presenter getting mixed up occasionally eso with new horses or difficult names but.. here's the thing SAVASON Three syllables. SAV A SON ... The horse is a son of SAVABEEL (duh Is SAVABEEL'name ever pronounced as anything other than SAV (as in Hav, gav and pav) A - BEEL (rhymes with meal, feel and wheel) ??? No. Both the caller and presenter today called this SON of SAVABEEL ....SAVER-SON and SAH- VA -SON Come on lads its not rocket science (at last, not in this case!) Rant (rhymes with pant) over.
