theshu
Cant blame them. Why race for 10,000 when you can go provincial nearly everyday of the week in Victoria for minimum 24,000.
Kopia
It wasn't that long ago that Ellis was sprouting off about stakes in NZ being a minimum of $20,000. This was well before the virus hit, back when Ellis still thought the sun shone out of Winnies arse...as did Patrick Hogan and quite a few others who paid for NZFrist electioneering...gone very quiet now eh?
Huey
About time they did surely, the measure of their success shouldn't be beating up the peasants in NZ but performing in Aus. They have had a great season there this season so opportune time to go.
holy ravioli
Smart move. The coming economic headwinds spell doom for NZ TB racing. Stakes will get a haircut in Oz too.

Wasn't the only one who got it wrong however Ellis has made it quite clear one of the reasons is the lack of clear direction from the NZ Industry managers. Freda
There were a few who were adamant that stakes were going up.
Chief Stipe
David Ellis is a stockman and a pretty good one at that. He can be excused for believing the crap that was dished out. Geez there are still prominent people in the industry that believe Racefields Legislation will be the saviour.
curious
Not sure how you can excuse people from believing crap. Especially, the ones that think that taking racefields from punters is some kind of new money rather than another way of collecting the sme money from the same losing punters. Sad really that they could be that thick. They probably should stick to their knitting and leave the wagering stuff to someone who knows what they are doing. It looks like McNab and Harris spat the dummie before the virus shit hit, both were pissed off that they were doing the trackwaork and not getting the plum rides..both very capable riders too. The list looks a bit thin after them...DJohnson? SCollet?

Shad
Must be tough for riders waiting for the start of racing, keeping fit and their weight under control.

Not as tough as the trackriders&stablestaff waiting for an opportunity to earn their next dollars.Hopefully the raceday jockeys have had a time to reflect on how well paid they do get for the amount of time spent in the saddle or in the stable. Not all of us who love racing are in the 56-60 kilo weight range to be able to become a jockey.

Interesting. We never hear anything positive from jockeys, do we? You would think the way things are looking for the industry right now that riders would be wanting to say something? Their incomes are under threat as much as anyone elses in the industry. Thats for certain.
mumbles
Unlikely that the jockeys will say anything as they may offend an owner/trainer somewhere resulting in a loss of rides.

It wouldn't hurt them to come up with a fundraising/charity/keep fit type of thing during the lockdown though would it,or even a genuine non scripted social media update about what they have been up to,after all they do claim they are professional sportspeople, look at all the other sportpeople of NZ(&the rest of the world) that have been able to do stuff for eg; kids tv,at home fitness etc

Freda
Lisa Allpress was on TV a week or so ago....complaining about not riding. She had a mortgage to pay, she said. I am an admirer of Lisa, but she would be far better off than most.

I pointed out perhaps it would be a good time to go to her Jockey Assoc and get them to up their presence on social media. Talking jockey's!How many have a dedicated social media page?? if not why not! I
