I see the turnover over at kumara oncourse was 230k plus some, looked like they were jammed in like sardines, the Westport trots about 10k behind and heaps of space and room for all, and many extra, certainly the kumara facilities are rather cramped to say the least.

If only it was that easy to find a fast one, like having a bet at the tab, you know the odds, now beat them, at least their still trying.

Very true H&S has certainly ramped up these days, but cant recall any major incidents in those early years, that I can think of, I know they did race regardless of weather or track, that was basically always wet and spongy, the trouble is many are searching for the perfect track, and in my opinion make them just to good, hence the issues of light rain on a very good surface, and we all know the outcome of that.
-
Cancellations of there meetings only started after the so called track upgrade, done more damage than good, in the early years the going never really changed, whether it was wet or dry for a month, track resembled a soft sponge, always safe and no cancellations that I can recall, the last time I attended was the first cancellation after one race, may have been the year they got the helicopter in, never worked, lost track of how many canned meetings since. As we have discussed before, many tracks have been in the same boat after these so called improvements.

Very small community at kumara, but most of the rest of the coast support all meetings, kumara is a racing only course, locked up for the rest of the year and not used for anything else that I'm aware of, even when there was a couple of horses trained at kumara, as far as I know they had to travel to omoto to work their horses.

Hope he had his skull cap on as part of the starting crew at the trots, compulsory.

On positive note, nice win by mama sans, congratulations to the connections and first win by her trainer, followed this mare until she had a nasty fall at motukarara a year or so ago, may have been touch n go for a while, but great to see her back, and in winning form.

This is a big bug bear for me, no bloody preliminaries, no one in the stipe police seem to give a rat's arse, and been happening for a very long time, all punter can see is the arse end of the horse, only prelim seen is the one to 1400m start st reefton, used to be standard many years ago, but so did a few other things.

Very good summary of the debacle, horses were in the gates for some time, not ideal for those inexperienced runners, also shame for the club with the revenue lost from the late scratched horses, no fault of the club, all things aside, was a great days outing, track was great, weather held up good, considering the forecasted monsoon weather, racing very competitive, good crowd, hopefully the turnover was tidy, all horses and riders pulled up well, what more could one ask for, well done to the club, let's hope their back next year.
-
Very interesting, rules are rules and should be a level, playing field for all.
-
Good luck to reefton club today, fields look good, always a great day out to those that attend.

Always wanted to be a doctor, but I never had any patience,

10 year old won at the coast trots first up.

Good on crab, back out of his shell.

Horse was ok, just all shook up.

Why would they start it, don't need to give the activists any more fuel for the fire, remember years ago backed a horse at kumara, had been trailing well, got away from from the jockey and done a lap, refunded my bet, the horse leads all the way and wins, elvis was its name I think,by golden elder, was many years back.

Eating to much horse meat will give you the trots

Had a friend with a blow up doll, wasn't happy with it, so took it back to the retailer, he said what's wrong with it, it keeps going down on me, he replied if id had known that I would have charged you double. -
Was just saying on another post I followed the McDowell horses over the 3 days, unless I catch them on nelson circuit and get a return, that man deserves a db.Even the Hope's didn't have much joy, just as hard to win there as anywhere
-
Another tough day on the punt at reefton, followed the McDowell horses over the 3 say circuit, unless I can get some returns at the Nelson circuit, been a very lean time, that man deserves a db.
-
Ring the integrity line, those horses should have been scratched regardless, shocking, ok one did win,but the others didn't go that well, vet check happened very fast, probably they all wanted to get home, clerk of the course apparently got a telling off, but that doesn't help the losing punter,I was left shaking my head
-
At least they picked up the wrong horse had been saddled up, or we could have had another de monfort episode, as for the good spanking, only allowed if your wearing your leather jockeys.

Crickey I remember fred, injured some rough weather there over his years of service, bit of a legend in his day, I think he would turn in his grave if he knew it was a paying job these days.
-
Very windy there today, some never heard the whistle, but for me where was the clerk of course, in wrong place, having a snooze, was a very quick vet check and there off again, should have all been scratched, my one trotted away great on the first attempt, but was stirred up the second time and galloped, took me 19 races over the two days to back a winner, fynn frost, was pleased with dividends, that was the only collect there, certainly backed some average performers, but then I do look for those roughies.
