  1. Certainly having a bad trot
  2. Yep, tighter than a mouse's ear.
  3. Could understand why Tyler's are staying at home, better stakes, no travel, no brainer isn't it, as for the coasters 3 meetings in a week, Monday, Thursday, Saturday, will be a interesting week that's for sure, Reefton apparently starting at 2.30pm.
  4. Interesting to see how horse numbers stack up for the pending coast thoroughbred circuit, I see the Tyler's are staying home, which makes sense, hope the Myers barn make trip down, and a few other stalwarts.
  5. Thanks for clearing that rule up, for me trainer changes always get my interest, Madam de soir the horse in question had been battling down south on bog tracks and in average fields, then when I seen her come south for a few starts, i thought she must be showing plenty to bring up to ashburton and riccarton, little did I know Danny crozier had her, he certainly worked the Oracle, been in great form since, a frustrating rule that one, needs addressing like the standardbred horse movements rule, notifications.
  6. That's all good Thomas's, rules are rules, and from a punters point of view is important to know, I had a whinge a while back when a horse I used to follow won two races after plodding around down the deep south, raced and won at ashburton, then at riccarton, after race interview horse had been at riccarton for a month or two, with a different trainer, I still never seen any notification of a change, would have been a changer for me punting wise, was still in original trainers name, unless I missed it somewhere, I no the harness advertise horse movements, anyone no the rules regarding stable changes.Anyway getting back to the other, just remember, small ones try harder.
  7. Better late than never, I guess, took big Thomass to give em a curry up,
  8. Agree with you on all counts, very gifted and had the balls to take the hurdles at the highest level, not many have done that, many have come and gone over the years, so his longevity in the game has been second to none, your obviously a good judge bill, probably rode yourself.
  9. Interesting to hear people's personal opinion on the most memorable wins or placings over his career, for me did witness him winning the grand national on ampac, one of his three wins in the race, but his Melbourne cup placing on mercator was a highlight for me.
  10. Interesting all the Nate tagging bought in for the cattle, and they are still trying to trace where all the stock had gone, when bovis struck, I thought that was the reason for having the tracing on stock, obviously another fail somewhere.
  11. Numbers have been light in the races mentioned, last couple years, just doesn't seem to be the horses around for that grade, stakes been quite good I thought.
  12. Have to agree, those 2.02 and 2.03 2000m races always had me a tad dubious,
  13. Totally agree, if for one have never and will never have a sports bet in my life, they way I see it is it's always been for racing from day one, and should remain that way, as for the quaddies first fours ect, have basically cut the trifecta price or some trifecta worth more than first fours, whatever happened to the simple forms of betting, to many options.
  14. All the forms of betting just stretches the dollar wider, and the pools are weaker, only so much to go around
  15. High forty, like the boy with the wheelbarrow, got the job in front of him,one of my favourites.
  16. The chief isn't it
  17. Took easy on the eye, thought the odds very poor, did look hard at Colorado miss as I took her up north a couple of times, she did let me down, stable change and dry track worked the Oracle, but I let her go, even 23s short for her, must be not much in the pools.
  18. Certainly was a character boomer, and so was hewy, God rest his soul, remember him turning up at hoki one year to ride a friends horse, he looked like he had slept in the barn, with a few beers as well, the horse was by sucaryl had a bit of ability, and was told to ride him cold, well I think he rode him more like freezing, gave them a huge start and ran on very strong to finish mid field, plan was to keep him intact with the field the second day, a repeat of the first but he flew home for second, beaten a head, bloody sad when he had his accident, I didn't know him that well, but sounded like he had a heart of gold. All our lifes can be tough at times, but when you see these jockeys lose their lifes doing what they love, it put things in prospective. We must celebrate each day and get thankful for being here.
  19. Was it boomer that used to sell other products on his trips to various meetings, some told me one day he was selling cheap Jean's in the stable box, not sure how true that was, but given his nick name, may well be, I can recall Westport jockey club trying a few dates, February, March, May, last meeting from memory 1996 the cup won by a horse called elad nova,by light spirits, they always struggled to get a crowd and turnover, that last meeting I think turned over around 60k oncourse, from memory, I think one year they called off the racing with two races left, a horse called mutual belle ridden by Jacki Jamison came out and done an exhibition gallop, getting round no problem, just looking at a program from Westport who raced in September Monday 1948, racing for 200 pound back then, oh the memories.
  20. Wont have to mow it if that's the case, will come up half cut
  21. Jim lalor trained at Reefton and his brother Tom trained at Greymouth, I think, Jim shifted to Ashburton later on.Had a few good horses, Charlie's pal, frontline who dead heated the nuggets one year with accelerate, think they were both out of the same mare, do stand to be corrected, as it was a long time ago
  22. Also a Mick Conza that trained down that way, but was some years back.
  23. Used to race in November some years ago I think, Saturday and Monday from memory, both greymouth and hokitika, then again after xmas.
  24. Be the only time of the year, go any other time, you would find more life in a morgue.
  25. I rather go to a coast meeting any day, atmosphere great, tracks close to the action, you don't need to watch the races on a big screen, happened to be in christchurch the day of the galloping cup, was intended to go, but was sold out with no gate sales, one time I would have pissed off, but this occasion, it was like oh well, be people everywhere, many not all racing racing supporters, few drunk ones as well,, 40$ to get in, horses miles away, have to watch them on the big screen, and those pictures not that clear, so all in all had few bets, watched them on my phone and had a good look around the city, funny how things change, once I'd be breaking a leg to get in, instead I will try to attend a couple of the coast meetings, amongst work commitments, and I'm 100 percent sure i will have a much more enjoyable time.
