  1. Has the March racing on the coast been dropped to.
  2. Very sad to hear the Davey Macdonald era has come to an end, regardless what he has or hasn't been paid is not worth the thought, we need to thank him for his 44 years of service and dedication, I for one will miss his race calls from the deep south, but will will have the fond memories of all his calls, but 3 of them special, involving a horse I have part owned, still have them them on my sky, and have relived so many times, also to Jason Teaz, who has also called a couple of winners for me, these guys will be sadly missed, for their race day calling. One of my favourite lines by J Teaz was at a Oamaru gallop meeting, when his comment was, highforty like the boy with the wheelbarrow, he's got the job in front of him, another, like a couple of yachts travelling at two knots on a freezing cold winters day and a bog track at wingatu.,All the best to both, let's hope they are not totally lost to the industry.
  3. Yes he been a very good sire, and sadly missed.
  4. Underrated sire, raise the flag, very well bred himself, only got nine mares for last season, you would think whiterobe would put him to more of their mares, ablaze left nz with 6 wins and 90k in stakes, now the winner of 13 races and at a guess over 500k, bakery hill, riding high, markwood, flying agent all preformed well today, the breed certainly need time and patience, when you look at the flat performers like broadside, civil disobedience, parthesia, etah James and now ablaze, Australia trainers just seem train them better, gives a bit of hope tor a rising 6yr old by the same sire.Great to see them doing well, and sire standing for a modest fee of 6k.
  5. Must be tough for riders waiting for the start of racing, keeping fit and their weight under control.
  6. 1958 nz metropolitan trotting club, Easter meetings book price 1 shilling, races such as Reta Peter handicap won by the top buller trotter Durban Chief, who won 2 dominions, nz trotting stakes won by Au Fait trained by D G Nyhan, also featured the woolson brass band conducted by Mr D S Christensen, also the 1961 inter dominion championships day 4, featuring nz welcome stakes, hambletonian, and the grand final, won by Massacre trained by DJ Cambell from ashburton.
  7. Crickey I've got a reefton jockey club book from 27 September 1947, a photo of majesty on the front cover, also January 47 with kindergarten, on the cover, afternoon tea under the auspices of the reefton catholic parishioners association, the good old days, even had a few trot races, have to dig deep in my box of tricks to find some of the harness variety.Keep you posted.
  8. In other words there are saying we don't give a toss to see if your investment finished in or out of the money, just get your bet on the next race weather it be coming from timaru or timbuktu, shame on them, another blight on our racing.
  9. This sums up the situation of the country wether it be racing or any other company or business, these so called top dogs absolutely creaming it, whether they are successful or bloody hopeless, what ever happened to performance based salaries, sad state of affairs, and yep needs drastic action.
  10. Hit the nail on the head with that statement, add the crowd to the list.
  11. Someone broke into the local dog pound, and let them loose, police are following a number of leads.
  12. Good on you Pam, with all those animals to look after almost like being rural, you have been in the game for a number of years, so I'm sure that you will keep trucking on, after all of this. For me biking past the cemetery at 5.00am in the morning and seeing how fast its filling up, keeps you thinking things can always worse.
  13. Lucky for me work carries on as per normal, keeps things normal for me, and the fact I live in a rural area plenty of open spaces, do feel for those who can't have their normal routine at this tough time, sometimes we have to be careful what we wish for in life, and appreciate when have work and a routine in life, we must keep battling on and keep our sense of humor, jokes anyone.

    Remember

Great meeting there, everything handy, made for great viewing, the local trainers, Pope's, Keenan's, William's, Wildbores, to name a few, the scenic land stakes for the mares, which was worth 5K back then, then the bracketed races, which I found hard to understand at the time, and only 40c for a race book back in those days, remember a few of the hardy campaigners that would would front up, a few of my favourites, ernest a showy black horse, gaucho, High Roona, worldly miss, brutus, firpo just to name a few, the memories keep flooding back, they were great days, have to grab for the hanky now, to dry the eyes.
  15. Certainly a media frenzy, that they will feast on for sometime, going to be a slow month when every day we are constantly reminded of the which day we are into, and see the same content multiple times.
  16. Glad you liked that one, the odds have been stacked against me, your brother must be a good man.
  17. Straight from the head, everyone loves a good joke, talking of mothers, my mates mother in law had a nasty accident, she fell down the wishing well, crickey he said, I didn't know they worked.Got to keep the humor up in these dark times.
  18. Just about everything canceled now, even the local bridge tournament, don't know how they will get over it.
  19. Agree with your comments, charity begins at home as they say, quite unreal given the situation of nz racing.
  20. A trip down memory lane, you certainly don't forget them, tough on connections, what a star he was.
  21. I try hard but never mind, did get invited to the nudist camp for the weekend, said i couldn't go, as I had something on.
  22. I considered space travel, but someone told me there was no atmosphere.
  23. Might give them the trots.
  24. Good to see the old boy pick one up today, best draw he has had for a few starts, to short at 9s for me, guess change of driver the key, also sods law, coast form stacked up pretty good. Two of my old suspects that missed my attention today, work the priority today.
  25. Very competitive, great effort from the southern team.
