Totally agree, if for one have never and will never have a sports bet in my life, they way I see it is it's always been for racing from day one, and should remain that way, as for the quaddies first fours ect, have basically cut the trifecta price or some trifecta worth more than first fours, whatever happened to the simple forms of betting, to many options.

All the forms of betting just stretches the dollar wider, and the pools are weaker, only so much to go around

Took easy on the eye, thought the odds very poor, did look hard at Colorado miss as I took her up north a couple of times, she did let me down, stable change and dry track worked the Oracle, but I let her go, even 23s short for her, must be not much in the pools.

We must celebrate each day and get thankful for being here.

Was it boomer that used to sell other products on his trips to various meetings, some told me one day he was selling cheap Jean's in the stable box, not sure how true that was, but given his nick name, may well be, I can recall Westport jockey club trying a few dates, February, March, May, last meeting from memory 1996 the cup won by a horse called elad nova,by light spirits, they always struggled to get a crowd and turnover, that last meeting I think turned over around 60k oncourse, from memory, I think one year they called off the racing with two races left, a horse called mutual belle ridden by Jacki Jamison came out and done an exhibition gallop, getting round no problem, just looking at a program from Westport who raced in September Monday 1948, racing for 200 pound back then, oh the memories.

Jim lalor trained at Reefton and his brother Tom trained at Greymouth, I think, Jim shifted to Ashburton later on.Had a few good horses, Charlie's pal, frontline who dead heated the nuggets one year with accelerate, think they were both out of the same mare, do stand to be corrected, as it was a long time ago

Used to race in November some years ago I think, Saturday and Monday from memory, both greymouth and hokitika, then again after xmas.

Be the only time of the year, go any other time, you would find more life in a morgue.

I rather go to a coast meeting any day, atmosphere great, tracks close to the action, you don't need to watch the races on a big screen, happened to be in christchurch the day of the galloping cup, was intended to go, but was sold out with no gate sales, one time I would have pissed off, but this occasion, it was like oh well, be people everywhere, many not all racing racing supporters, few drunk ones as well,, 40$ to get in, horses miles away, have to watch them on the big screen, and those pictures not that clear, so all in all had few bets, watched them on my phone and had a good look around the city, funny how things change, once I'd be breaking a leg to get in, instead I will try to attend a couple of the coast meetings, amongst work commitments, and I'm 100 percent sure i will have a much more enjoyable time.

Seems odd that greymouth race on a Monday, and reefton a Thursday, opposed to their Wednesday date which they have held for a few years now, only Saturday date is Kumara, weather and track dependent, haven't attended Kumara since there first cancellation, many years back, very over rated for me, to be fair they have a few cancelled since, someone will know exactly how many, my attendance at the other two meetings may be limited, due to them being on work days and a busy time of year, shame really, mind you some racing better than none, as the future for racing on the coast looks dicey.

Interesting all three coast meetings crammed into a week, looks like no date for hokitika, were they offered the opportunity to race anywhere else, or are they finished for good.

Who knows, haven't heard anything, but you wouldn't bet on anything, I did hear that they had alot of rain over the spring, with one area recorded 700 mills plus some in the period from 1st Sept till 6th November, very damp whitebait season apparently, hopefully no porkers on the loose this time.

Like invercargill, our recently retired horse, won a 2100m race down, sitting 3 wide the trip, there a couple of years back, one of 7 wins and 25 placings, even took us to the New Zealand cup one year, and went a respectable race, these days battling away with a raise the flag 6yr old who has had many issues along the way, we live in hope of just getting him to the races, nothing a given in this game.We are all living the dream, in Christchurch today, was planning a day at the races, but alas sold out, I guess 40$ more to spent at tab.

Agree with your thoughts, southerners done very well, and good on them, as for the madam case, I really do think some notification for punters should have posted, as one who followes horses that have a change of scenery, I know the harness game has a few horse movements notified.
