  1. Agree wholeheartedly, not only is it time to redo the calendar its time to alter the process around race date allocations. Make it performance based , put some metrics in place. Find out where people want to race their horses, where they want to support .Put an end to the shenanigans that have been going on for years with the calendar.
  2. Laughable Tesio! You expect the smaller clubs to expose themselves to the whims of the industry and not look to protect themselves in the long run , whilst the bigger clubs remain a protected species no matter what they do or achieve in the industry. Many of the larger clubs are gifted dates, funding, exposure and still perform inadequately (not to mention this argument always seem to present itself at this time of year when race goers are actually attending meetings at the larger venues, which btw is a given at this time of the year ), it isn't a level playing field and never has been and is only getting worse for the smaller venues, I say good on them for doing what they wanted to do with the asset they created. I think its been stated on here already that it would be better for some of the larger clubs to forego their assets for the betterment of the industry , so why don't they?
  3. Lets face it, its been ongoing since NY day when the trainer made a comment the industry would be worse off without him on karaka million night. Surely if they are doing their jobs correctly in the first place(judiciary) , the appeal shouldn't be required. It'll set a poor precedence if he is let off , but I won't be surprised if he is. Not sure what the problem is they have the best jockeys in the country at their beck and call anyway , so someone else will just miss out.
  4. Yes 2 Savabeels amongst them , someone might get a bargain , they were only cheap ones at any rate $350k & $440k at the yearling sales :0
  5. The worst thing about them, is when they clutter up the Saturday racing programme!
  6. Looks like the industry is back on its feet with all these changes https://loveracing.nz/News/32226/Williamsbuoyedbyreinvigoratedracingoutlook.aspx?fbclid=IwAR26LXJwhvFMrUWNQEPkJIU_s733n-5h9yLKQHlrHruXUsgWS8KjRVYRTvU
  7. Based on who you ride for ; 0
  8. I think it will be pretty poor form if its over turned, but would not be surprised at all.
  9. Was always going to happen with TA & other bigger stables not having access to the Aus jocks like they have in the past. Not sure I agree with his argument though, but I wouldn't bet against him getting what he wants i.e. to ride Karaka Million night.
  10. $1mill for that field, is this race run a bit early? I know I know the sales and all.
  11. Interesting comments from the TA trainer saying the industry would be worse off without OP on Karaka Million night, perhaps we might get a more competitive race without him or will TA jet in the Aus jocks?
  12. Dont they say giving 80m back to the industry? Therefore it would have to be net revenue?
  13. I have every faith that those running the industry know very little about the sport, but what surprises me most is the trainers in behind the AWT , it appears as though they have only looked at it from a training perspective?
  14. Exactly right, some very good points. So if we can't follow the form from the AWT to the grass , whats the point of it from a punters perspective ?
  15. Doubtful and this is where the logic of the likes of BS is so misplaced. I'm all for moving dates and venues if its going to improve the exposure, participation & ultimately returns to the industry , however this does not appear to be the case in any of these changes.
  16. Still impressive figures whether thats the case or not & a lot at Ellerslie on B Day would have been also.
  17. That will kill it, and that is their plan to enable them to get their hands on the assets.
  18. The Status Quo is not an option , but it is at these big full time clubs for some reason.
  19. Don't give Bernard any ideas , he will be pushing for it. He hasn't a clue what makes the industry tick.
  20. Thoroughly deserved imo. An outstanding female athlete, her longevity, consistency and enthusiasm is but to be admired. If only the sport had 10 riders like her.
  21. The question based on the initial post should be , is it more successful for the industry based on what was in place previously? A lot of these larger clubs get good PR from the governing body , no matter what they do. Based on fields & horse numbers like Hastings that does not appear to be the case.
  22. agree and if youre like me , probably broke on the punt by race 8 ; 0
  23. Yes I love the solution everyone has of just sending them to Aus. as if they just turn up and win, the competition is probably need to the toughest in the world over there & it certainly isn't a given in just going over.
  24. Yep total bias, so I wouldn't pay it any credence.
  25. How do you have them without the smaller venues and smaller days to prop them up? Those days don't just magically happen and its not just the funding around it that is of concern its all the preparation and participation that comes from other parts of the industry. Who supports the industry throughout the rest of the season after Boxing Day,NY Day and Karaka Million have been and gone? Most things in life build their base then get the top part right, look at Aus for an example. In NZ we look for short cuts that are unsustainable and we allow ourselves to be run by leaders who have no idea how they industry actually works.
