Yeah may be a result of my cut and paste and formatting Freda. It is debatable that the $30 should be shown as an asset but it probably nets out to zero because of a liability on the other side A bit misleading but accounting can be like that
-
Had a look at the accounts as at 31/7/22 and as far as I can tell they may have $20m available for general use - the rest is held in trust - betting accounts etc (but I'm not an accountant (thankfully)) Term deposits of $50 million is made up of the following: • $30 million relates to the Betting Accounts and Betting Vouchers Trust representing funds held in trust to cover the balance of customer betting account deposits and vouchers liability; additionally, a further $4 million of funds included within cash and cash equivalents is held to cover the total owed to customers of betting account deposits and vouchers liability of $28 million. The deposits and cash balance held in trust are not available for use by TAB NZ in the ordinary course of business up to the value of the betting deposits and vouchers liability. • $20 million relates to TAB NZ general cash funds invested in term deposits as part of TAB NZ’s normal investment strategy

They use to have $120m I'm guessing a decade ago but my understanding that has been pissed up against the wall by a series of CEOs on failed IT projects and guaranteeing stakes whilst revenues were falling etc etc

NZTR have virtually given up on the "holiday hotspots" and it is a bad strategy. There's a place for them as much as the "big money days". Take a leaf out of Harness's book - but closing down these courses means they've painted themselves into a corner.
-
Yes but if they do follow everything they advise, guidelines, advice etc and it still goes pear shaped don't try to tell me that NZTR are not culpable.

I recall someone saying in another thread (which I can't find at the moment) that it is the club's responsibility to present their tracks in a safe condition and I meant to reply but forgot (dementia). That is true to an extent but NZTR has taken an overseeing role in the past 20? years and have enforced various things onto these clubs in relation to their tracks eg track WOF and Track people like Gary Foskett so if there is a problem they are also responsible. I recall them imposing conditions on the Waverley club (against their wishes) who felt that they had a better idea on the local conditions being farmers in the area for decades. Further these clubs get very little funding from racedays to undertake any improvements as they get no commissions on betting anymore which used to be their lifeline. So don't blames the clubs (who undoubtedly have incompetence running through them eg RACE, Auckland, Waikato, Canterbury) the major part of the blame rests with the NZTR management and boards - past and present.

Bunch of clowns - couldn't organise a beer in a brewery
-
Yeah a totally inept organisation run by clowns thinks it can do a better job? BS (very apt initials) thought he had sorted it out!!! Please

I feel that one of Bruce's missives is nigh. Hope so the ones so far have been so decisive and have solved the issues haven't they?😃😃😃

Those "green shoots" he talked about must require a microscope to see rather than a magnifying glass. Won't be the last person who gets a job thinking he alone has the ability to turn things around and will - but can't. Hubris I think they call it. Same as George at the Warriors.

TAB NZ Trading Performance Update - July 2022
Mark D replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
No surprise here and nor are the "reasons/excuses" for the poor performance. Just poor management - you reap what you sow. -
Yip I made this comment on NZTR's Facebook post trumpeting this announcement "The least they can do as they've been bleeding the rest of the racing in NZ dry. Of course Counties used to have these 20k days about 30 years ago so it shows how the racing industry has plummeted due to bad management." Got one like LOL

I'm told the result of the Special General meeting was - 24 votes to join RACE 36 against
-
Yeah read it this morning - haven't laughed that hard for years. The man is a clown.

Nothing on the NZTR website. Kudos to Guerin for filling the void

7 races at Cambridge AWT on Wednesday - Says it all
-
Obviously no drugs involved otherwise Grim and the boys would be all over it like CIS Taihape
-
Got the day off and money in my account but as I did in regards to Cambridge AWT they're not getting my money. Won't change anything but what the f@#k
-
And some more of the same - keep selling off land to fund operations but with little plan to make those operations better (see Ellerslie hill sale) and of course putting out the begging bowl to Government https://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/wellington-top-stories/128422014/plans-to-transform-trentham-into-racing-housing-and-retail-hub

'P' Again - Rochelle Lockett Disqualified 3 Years.
Mark D replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Sad case and I hoped that it would be treated as a health issue rather the horse racing administration continue to treat it as a punishment and deterrence issue. I acknowledge that I do know Rochelle slightly as a result of racing horses out of Kevin's stable but that is my view regardless of who is involved.
