I remember saying this last year , J Richards had just trained the first 3 or 4 home in the 2yo million and had watched it in the bar area , and as the camera was on him as they crossed the line and some well known racing people were congratulating him , i couldn't get over the number of people in the back ground that were just talking and completely unaware that the race was running , clearly just there for the social event , some right by TV's and not the least bit interested .

If there is an upside it is that there isn't a big pot of gold for him to piss away , that's the best plus i can come up with which just about sums my attitude to the whole industry now . How he's going to turn around and make big strides in increasing betting revenue , god knows , and if he does please , please , make Mr Tod's aquaintance .

That Ruby's lad is a real good horse i reckon with a lovely action , i can see him heading over to Aus for the connections , already have a connection with Maher/Eustace with the jumpers . Andertons also have that Burghie and wouldn't be surprised to see her win on Sat , another very nice horse for the Andertons . Re the lack of 3yo races around Canterbury , again goes back to the calendar and programming , seriously needs updating .

I have been to a Karaka Millions night , Vespa won , a fantastic evening with a fantastic crowd and atmosphere , but i can with hand on heart say i have been to way better Wellington Cup days and Bayer Classic days . In isolation the KM meetings is a must keep , but it costs the industry money , and it gets it profile , but the cost to the wider industry is all but catastrophic , we can't have a meeting just for the feel good effect . As i said the whole calendar needs complete overhaul , where the industry works for the industry as a whole not just ramming big noting events where ever they want . Doomed i remember when they ran a highweight as the first of the day at Trentham then all the heavy lads jumped in cars and headed up to Palmy for the Ashurst Pohingina highweight , both of us showing our age bud .

Very big racing jurisdiction , many top horses , jockeys and breeding stock come out of Argentina . One of my all time favorite jockeys , Tito Poblete , not sure on the spelling , was from over that way , Freda will put me right , Chilean i think . Him and Little Brown Jug , great combination .

What would i do ? what i wouldn't have done is fuck with a perfectly great Wellington Cup Carnival for the sake of a sales company , whilst not perfect the Sat, Mon, Sat was better than the complete clusterf@#k that we have now . Maybe better just to do Sat , Sat and let another local club have Anniversary Monday , the meeting this Saturday is a complete non event , just another day , has no connection to the Cup carnival what so ever. But it is all good we have the absolutely fabulous Karaka Millions on Saturday to look forward to , which this year as a racing purist appears a little light on previous years , IMO .

I went to Otaki on the 5th of Jan and they charged $10 to get in and there were plenty there , as for staff i didn't see an abundance of them , i thought the guys selling the food in the members was an outside business and the 3/4 eating options in the public areas were private concerns so they wouldn't affect the clubs bottom line , can't say regarding the bars . I would suggest get the product better and more people will attend , but i know it is a battle getting people to attend , as we know never used to be but complacency has been their worst enemy . As for Hawkes Bay my understanding was that the day was shifted because they though having HB and Tauherenikau day after day was affecting fields for both , although i didn't get what a day between was going to solve , but as with the rest of the calendar it all needs an overhaul .

You could argue that it's not , some would say if an animal needs Lasix then it is clearly not up to the training and racing , and when it races after being on Lasix is just a Lotto ticket as to whether it bleeds .

It was bad enough that they couldn't give the CD a meeting for it's anniversary day and but a meeting on at Matamata , well now i see they have moved that to Wednesday , so no meeting on a public holiday for people to have a bet , but there is a meeting on Thursday at Otaki , great when everyone is back at work , FFS really , this really isn't rocket science , more like weird science , put on a meeting when you have a captive audience on holiday and looking for something to do you pratts . I really give up , what hope when they can't get the simple things right .

There is always some who are doing things that are not in the spirit or some would say ethical , i have known plenty who have given known bleeders half an aspirin daily , then stop close to the races , is it cheating , is it ethical from a welfare position , everyone will have an opinion to varying degrees . Don't know if it still possible to get but again have known many to train a horse on lasix , again if known bleeder , same questions . Giving young horses hormones isn't supposed to happen anymore , but i bet it does , people are always trying to find an edge . I have been to sales where a particular vendors horses are all real big and you just know that it is not all natural , i went to one SI sale and the horses from one vendor were huge , but you could just see there was no substance , and they got some big prices , i followed them for a couple of seasons , nada , couple of wins , but the vendor got their money . Now these might not be considered in the big cheating arena , but if it is supposed to be a level playing field then it shouldn't be happening at all .

She has always had the ability and i have always liked backing her , but inconsistency has been her biggest issue and perhaps as you say there have been reasons , now that she's riding at her top i hope she stays focused , she could certainly handle a move north if she wanted it .

I don't even know if they are united Joe , decisions are too inconsistent .

When he got the job the top dog there talked him up for his success in the racing industry along with the PO and MBIE , his salary was in the 350k range , a bit of a come down for him .
