  1. Newmarket UK [birthplace of horse racing] does it brilliantly, so too at Churchill Downs in Kentucky, the horses are brought up to a set of tie-ups next to the birdcage, they are saddled in full view of the public, some horses get a bit stirred, I've seen them at Newmarket July Course walk the horses away and under the trees and while the attendant holds the reins, the trainer or assistant trainer does the business, Royalty, A celebrities [as opposed to here where b & c grade celebrities throng] mingle with the public, it's bloody great, and everyone then saunters over to the birdcage and they parade before the jocks are legged up. A day at the races anywhere in UK, Ireland and up in Bonny Scotland is a must do, just delightful on a summers day.
  2. Now now, stop it Pasta Boy, you're twisting the narrative, evil Chinese communists, communists, ....get it?
  3. Ok last post on this thread before I get punted for hijacking........We went to war because Neville C sucked up to Hitler believing that kindness wins over evil, meanwhile Hitler believed kindness to be a sign of weakness and subsequently went into Poland. Apathy is almost as bad as evil Pasta Boy, if you ever get to understand that you'll come right and join us......I learnt my mantra from old Dad, who did six years away, lost the use of his leg that was mangled by shrapnel, lost his bother to the Germans for 3 years in a POW camp, and lost his youngest brother to God as he was killed near Ravenna in Italy......if the Poms had of been more on the ball, Hitler would have thought twice and even if he had of gone ahead, the Allies would have been far more prepared......end of, back to young Richards.
  4. You don't get it, it's all that starch in the pasta......#rinsebeforeuse
  5. You're not mumbling, you're making sense!
  6. I don't rate Ellis but I do rate Richards, would I send him a horse if he set up here, you betcha, he's proven, plaudits to him for trying to go it himself, but HK is not the place for him, Ballarat/Hawkesbury/Wyong would be ideal as it's not too divorced from his MO in NZ.....but leave Ellis behind, the bought by David brand is wearing thin.....
  7. Now you're a fuckwit on steroids, and oil based too!
  8. Jesus that's poignant ain't it ? I just noticed how many likes I have = 888 the Chinese lucky number, well fuck me.
  9. You really are a fuckwit Pasta Boy, and a dangerous fuckwit, with views like that you'll be standing waving a Chinese flag when they arrive FFS......ask you old man about Neville Chamberlain and why we all had to go to war in 1939......FFS, you conscientious objector you.
  10. Fuck you're naive Chief, The Americans have huge bases in Guam, Japan and The Phillipines, if there's a war you think just because those low life Chinese communist arseholes will still troop down to Shit tin and Hoppy Valley to put their money through the cashier? FFS grow up, NZ pissed USA right off when Lange told them to fuck off, and fuck off they did, France and Australia will have to try and save NZ's arse because we have to look after the Pacific because the leaky boat of RNZN wont be able to stave off the imperial Chinese forces.......you obviously love CNN and BBC boss, because you just don't get it. We need to be pro-active not reactive, USA have already recalled their staff from their Embassy in Kiev so if Putin goes in, then so does NATO and then comes the Chinese....if they honour their word of course, and HK will be a gone burger, and all those filthy rich trainer and jockeys will need to troop off quick smart before their arses explode.....the horses of course wont be repatriated, they'll go the same way as the animals in other war torn countries.......suck it up.......FFS.
  11. And,......what happens when Russia takes Ukraine? Russia and China have now formed an alliance according to Jim Molan our respected Senator and former leader of the coalition forces in Iraq. If China has Russia's back then Hong Kong could become a very dangerous place......you think? ....or am I just a nutty conspiracy theorist.
  12. Well we used to have the Victoria Amateur Turf Club at Caulfield so it's reasonable to expect the Wellington Amateur Racing Club isn't it?
  13. Nah Chief, across the road was the wankfest, the races was a piss up of gigantic proportions, so that explains the turnover, it's easier to seperate a fool from his money when they are full of jumping juice.
  14. Och Laddie, give yourself an uppercut......not!..... well said.
  15. May I just add, on the AWT things are a tad different, because of the imminent kick back it can be prudent to cover a little bit of extra ground in an attempt to avoid eye damage, respiratory problems and shyness induced by said incidents. History repeats, and any doubting Thomas's just need to pick up the phone and call a trainer, any trainer from Toowoomba and ask them. The AWT will break up, Geelong did, and only a certain amount of horses chase on Pakenham and Ballarat.....and they are relatively new tracks, if you look at the Sunshine Coast it's a different synthetic and yet last meeting they could only attract 3 in one race and 4 in another..........work it out for yourself........in the wash up travelling like Captain Cook or Gulliver will only work on an AWT ......or the odd fluke.....such is racing.
  16. Agree, fair point, in NZ in many races they jump, kick up and for some unbeknown reason, other than that of the pilot concerned the brakes go on, and hard, resulting in a pile up behind, that doesn't happen here, well to the extent it does in NZ, and one day there will be a tragedy owing to fucking braindead jockeys pulling up in front. If I trained one that was subsequently stripped I'd be escorted out of the course because by hell I'd make my presence felt, all 115 kg of me! If the tempo is pedestrian then of course you make that decision, if you've already gone back and they are now doing evens up front due to the slackening, yeah, take off, take them by surprise, put some energy into the race, at least you'll get beaten on your merits, or maybe not......you may well win, then it's a masterstroke, but at least the connections wont die wondering, like they would if you sat 3 wide posturing and then get leg weary and tire.....IMO.
  17. Well I think we could argue until the cows come home, however you have to ride each horse to suit each horse and to take on board the wishes of the trainer, unless you're Glen Boss or Shane Dye who did what they wanted anyway. If you go forward you do so because you make that decision once you jump, if you jump well and have a known speed horse under you and you are leaving a wide gate you'll know pretty quick if you're going to get stuck 3 wide outside the leaders so you do the obvious and exert enough pressure on the other two [unless they are running ridiculous sectionals] and 99% of the time you'll get to at least outside the leader. As a trainer I would be happy with a jockeys explanation as to that's why he had to use a bit more gas than normal to get where he was........if your riding a tractable horse with the ability to go back without being mouth dragged back there and the course enables you to have that thought process you'll know just as quick what your MO is going to be. I'm pretty sure we are only as good as the men and women that taught us, plus the addition of your own ability and skills, so, I'm very appreciative I was tutored/taught/mentored by two of NZ's best, one undoubtedly and as mentioned one A A Armanasco so was privy to some very intuitive riding instructions to some of Oz and NZ 's leading jockeys...... those men that taught me believed that travelling 3 wide around a bend would cost you in the wash up, there are exceptions as there is to any event, and of course a horse with super ability might be able to sit 3 wide the journey against horses with far lesser ability and beat them......on occasions......but I'll stick with my beliefs thank you, and I was happy to explain why, and I respect if others disagree, that's what makes the world go around.
  18. No, you go forward or you go back, you don't sit there 3 deep like a galah wondering what the f to do. It's not rocket science, and off a hot pace a better option might have been to go back.
  19. You really feel for people connected to the horse, there's no worse feeling in racing. What a great little warrior, thoughts are with all concerned.
  20. And Ellie May on board....yeah haa......
  21. Thank you NM, sure.....and the Chief having a sly did at us 'senior' contributors for living in the past? Give me the past any day........please God don't let my memories fade, Trentham used to be just what you said, a Grand Old Lady,.......now it's Granny Clampett.
  22. WTF is wrong with the fence? Middle of summer and they're coming down the middle and outside rail..........what, nothing to see here?
  23. I wasn't going to 'go there'......but you're such a dick, I just had to......FFS, pulling blood to see how your horse is doing/not....is a tad different to having blood pulled pre-race to detect a top up, or something more sinister....you think? If you can get your head around it.......and, to add, we used to watch on as our next door neighbour had bloods done regularly on his huge string and AAA would say '' you'll see that vet in a Roller [Rolls Royce] shortly'' and the owners at the soup kitchen......I wonder if some trainers with huge teams that have blood pulled every month to see how the horses are going receive an 'incentive from the pathology co, or from the vet? Would that be possible? Nah, ethics and all that, no one would consider that......silly me.
  24. Touche!
  25. I never pulled a blood either, when foreman for the greatest trainer of 2y0's Oz ever saw, he told me ''the only time I want to see a vet in here is to sign a death certificate' ! He reckoned that between us we had well over a hundred years of experience so should know more than any vet!....he was right of course.......He was the original stallion maker, he forgot what most learnt in a lifetime, one Angus August Armanasco.
