  1. Ah, but have a look at who was his foreman, tells you everything.
  2. And then Satherley massacres his other Roc de Cambes filly Carte Blanche. How not to ride a race, draw 15 and sit out there wondering what might happen inside........why not go straight back, she didn't have the gate speed so go back, FFS, last bet in NZ ever....thats an effen promise, that riding fee should be donated to the Winston Peters happy retirement fund......
  3. Touche.
  4. Yes NM, the writing was on the wall when he bored it up her earlier on, a lovely filly, if only she had of been over here, a gr winner for sure.
  5. I might cop some vilification for this, however I'm quoting a very learned person,.......one leading trainer, noted for his common touch, said many years ago, ''they are pygmies taking advantage of a physical deformity''
  6. Classic, brilliant, cue in the rack.
  7. Och Laddie, dinna ya ken? It's NZ, nothing is going to change, look at the times in the 1400m today, they run 1-22 and change in the first, the 3yo's and in the last maiden they run near 1-26.....WTF, so many horses pulling and reefing back in the field, climbing, kangaroo hopping, these jocks are taking the piss, you are absolutely correct NM, you can't wager on races that are run like that, the stewards are failing the very people that employ them, none can read a race anyway, the Taj Mahal in Jackson St is now The Big Top, rename NZ Racing, Ringling Bros, or Barnum and Baileys........
  8. Cardy came off 108 yards behind at Wayville, his record will stand the test of time.
  9. Sadly we will never see those halcyon days again Forbury, I couldn't drive to save myself, but as I can dine out on the fact I drove Paleface home from the Croydon Oval track one morn.....Colin [Pike] used to stay at Bill Wilkins stable [Bangaroo Flex] and as I used to work a mad puller around there I got to see him most mornings, one day I plucked up the courage to ask for a ''sit'', Colin threw me the reins and in I hopped.........he then became of course my fav of all time, it was his looks being a chestnut with the blaze that won people, but to me he was a champion. You mention Wayne Honan, he is/was my landlords bro in law, that family own Manildra, AUS largest flour mill, those battling trot drivers from the 60's/70's are now billionaires........ FWIW, when Cardigan Bay returned to NZ Charlie Hunter was entrusted with his national farewell tour, he came to Hawera to say goodbye to the huge crowd at their 2 day meeting, he stayed at our place and I got to strap him for the few days he was with us.......I kept a swathe of mane from the brush, I had it for years but it's been lost, only a small photo from a box brownie remains, except of course for the memories, ahh the memories.......nostalgia can bore the shit out of the disinterested, I apologise to those thus effected.
  10. His owner did a great job with him, why did he not continue?......not enough time?
  11. Gamma, Pure Steal, Markovina, and that magic old bugger Maori's Idol, with the exception of AKL Reactor and Lazarus, why don't we see the class of horse we used to?
  12. If my old roommate JWW had of ridden Van, he would have won by panels, Shane will go to his grave swearing he did the right thing.
  13. The ride mate was a gem, it's racing at it's finest.
  14. You missed even better days in the 70's when Hondo, Paleface, Koala King and co plied their trade on those tracks, more so H Park.......the crowds were in the tens of thousands, the atmosphere unreal, the night Young Quinn won at H Park I shall never forget, white head gear, white hopples, and afterburners to die for.
  15. Tommy bred, owned and trained her, and she was the first filly to break the million barrier in Oz.....kaboom
  16. Gotta Be Bounding Away, he named his stables after Tulloch and her........
  17. Ist prize is a week in AKL.......2nd prize, 2 weeks in AKL.
  18. You just backed Kevin Robinson, he was always trying, he was a Catholic..!
  19. Well we get back to that old conundrum don't we, the class of horse that the lot I mention had to beat was lengths superior to the lot you've mentioned above.......those horses of the 80's and 90's were unreal, not flying welter horses like todays mob.....I just hope Waller doesn't weaken and he takes VE to Royal Ascot, or please God, The Ark......I just think it's a vastly different scene now, to what it was.........prizemoney is irrelevant Chief, if you convert say what Super Impose earned to today's dollar, same with many back then, it comes down to what you saw as against to what you see now......
  20. Tulloch, Tulloch, and Tulloch.
  21. Well that's contentious isn't it Pasta boy, but you see, all those wonderful Gr1 winners were looking over their doors at the same time, can you imagine that........
  22. He was my neigh bour! I was in awe of him, one day I followed the FBI down to the tie ups, they had one in each hand, Super, Schillaci, Subbie, Naturalism, Tawriffic, Mannerism, Pontormo, Gatherneaux, Azzurro, Durbridge, a stablehand had two.......with due respect to Chris W he will never know what it's like to have quality like that in your back yard, and that's where that lot lived......those days will never be replicated........they were awesome......
  23. I see Chris Wood thinks Saundry did a good job, and that's why you lot are where you're at with racing, the Trainers association was a joke, is a joke and always will be a joke, and anyone with a pulse that thinks Saundry was good for racing has shyte for brains.......I gave Wood more credit than that, I was wrong.
