  1. would be mugs taking a small price like that in a future race. especially a race that will attract the best horses in the land like The Everest. I 'll tell you a secret Huey , that on the Race day the betting companies have Bet Options like odds and evens on races. I guess like a roulette table it probably has a limit of $500 for even chance bets. but you could get Half the field running for you for your approxiamate $1.90. there would be 6 odd numbers and 6 even numbers running in a 12 horse field (or close to it after scratchings and that) so way better to have 6 runners galloping for you than one. (your chances of Victory increase 6 fold) for your $500, $100 or even $50. Ka YingR running on it's own at $1.90 for you would seem a VERY Poor bet to me 😆 Can't see why people need to put more than $500 on a horse race. If you have that much to muck around with why lose it on a horse lol? but some do. the ones with a gambling problem. My limit is $50 per race and I get by fine, and have lots of enjoyment , and never get any money strife.
  2. your post is confusing Brodie lol. Brad is probably saying the current situation sees great horses doing great racing in lots of new races and schemes that have been implemented (with the help of Dean Shannon and his mob) and people are racing for the best prizemoney ever seen in NZ. so looks excellent progress. (you'll find a dampener for it though no doubt lol 😉👍) You yourself are stating frequently that things will be changing in 2 years (after the 5 great years of the fantastic Entain harness revival is up. and Dean is stepping aside as has put in a decade of effort to achieve these great things. Perhaps the Commitee is to PLAN FOR THE FUTURE old chap. In 2 YEARS time things change ( i'm just taking your word for this ) so you need to start getting Plans in place NOW for when that time comes. They aren't gunna leave it to the last month Brodster. Good on em' for putting a committee togeather now to discuss these Future issues. Timing is good and Future Planning ALWAYS super IMportant. The only thing they could do better is put Gamma , Galah and Seymour (while he's got his billion$ and the world's best horse too, and is still Alive ) on the Committee and things would be running better than the gallops even in No Time.
  3. I don't need to wake up thanks . I'm not in the race. I have that many whip tales i could write chapters on it. Yes horses racing and gambling is prone to cheating as you say . we see only a fraction of what really is happening , that is the REAL cheating though . we all know Fine Cotton and that sort of thing. but ......... Every race (like those Grand Tour Cyclists who gets away with things for so long) their is Deliberate Chemical enhancement of a horse's chances, and I can tell you there are a few 'Dubious tactics ' employed to get horses to the post in 'Winning Order' . you have no idea what real cheating is. Positives are being overturned by the Juggernaut stables now as they have ways (and lawyers and BS) to cover their tracks a lot lately. you pick out a Single drive in Formula One as an example, BUT the bloke drives tons of races under extreme pressure (and G forces) of course you are going to calculate an error at times. or even drive angry lol 😂 Opie may have had a selfish dangerous ride you mention but i've seen Tommy Berry and Hugh Bowman (you talk experience shouldn't do it ) BUT they committed such dangerous acts at Randwick recently, their rival jockey was on the ground nearly killed and the horse they were riding was killed. It happens that way occasionally, and sadly. I haven't been in races with these jockeys , nor know their attitude. but do know it is ONE of the TOUGHEST Sports gigs going. A few whip strikes (when horses Can't even count) makes Fuckall difference to them. they're tired anyway. Michael Walker deliberately over did the whip in Melbourne Cup (twice) to run a place and had $10,000 fine. It's the heat of the moment and BIG races and little races . you're gunna go for it mate. you're just not gunna sit up and start counting. BUT Yes you have to try and improve your technique (no matter what experience) to fit in with the current guidelines.Jumping on a chaff bag in the tuck room is a good way for the jockeys to practice. Perhaps you could join in and help them to count ?? while you're awake .
  4. Chief mate. No one cares . The animosity is un-necessary and un-flattering for anyone. You'll only give yourself a hard -on worrying about who's got the Biggest Member 😁🤣 If Pete and Nomates want to chat with others elsewhere and not you , you'll just have to live with it old sport. get on with the racing. unless you're washed out again lol 😆. actually I can't talk as EF got washed out last Saturday but is fine and Sunny today and tomorrow . let em' rip !! let the horses rip instead of ripping into each other. Get Thomass on the boil. 😁 he's bound to come up with something constructive 😎 put the blinkers on him first though and a decent cane riding crop and whack away . don't count the strikes.
  5. Maybe not but it helps. I think the NZ Cup itself , should be a slot race. 50k to enter 12 starters . $600k purse . easy. HRNZ puts in no Prize money, since you say they don't have any 😆) but is supplying trophy's and many prizes to all the connections drivers slot holders and even the general public attending. make it a real Carnival for everyone. Hey mate , there are MORE SPONSORS than just ENtain. you say not a single person ? I know a friend of mine Chris Garrard already Puts in Mega Bucks to sponsor racing all around Aus and NZ . You will have to go back to good old Sponsorship mate. Races traditionally sponsored by Feed companies and the like. Vic Cup night in Victoria has PRYDE's Easyfeed sponsoring the whole Group 1 program , and it is broadcast on National TV. Big Breweries make a squillion dollars a year from all the alco's around the place. Get them on board.? XXXX sponsor a heap of gallops here , and the footy and what not. what's DB and Lion doing these days ? get them on board. tell em' you'll drink their beer at the track if they put up a few 100 thousand sponsorship for a few races lol. KFC do all the cricket here. Maybe they could eat at the TROTS too ? you kiwi's will just have to get off your arses and start sponsoring some races with some good dollars again ?? Ever sponsored a race Brodster ? Bit of fun. Albion Park often names the races after the members of the club. a nice touch.
  6. I know you are concerned about the small time frame of 5 years Mr Brodie . But The Entain money helped for another 5 years ( way better than no years 😉) so the harness folk are lapping it up while the going is good. Yes , other things will have to be done if the funding drops. HRNZ are Already starting to introduce Slot races (there were 2 new Big ones on Showday last year) where the PARTICIPANTS pay a huge chunk of the large prizemoney on offer for these races. A way of the future. We have some big ones in Brissie coming up soon including a 2 year old one. I think they help us have big prize races like the gallopers do with the EVEREST and now the KIWI. At the other end of the scale you will have to drop the race prizemoney. QLD and Victoria run at a turnover loss too, but supporters of the sport keep it going, as It is a SPORT , not just a business. where many participants are still spending money to participate, rather than just wanting to 'take it out 💰' like a lot of folk on forums 😁🤣. Addington running $15,000k maidens a bit too much mate. they'll just have to drop the slow horses back to 4 -6 k races like that we have all through the week in Country Victoria, NSW and QLD. If less you have less Funding = You race for less prizemoney . common sense . As for FRANKLIN , there are many issues involved there . It needs to stay though, so the 200 horses that use it can keep in work. without it North Island harness really hitting the basement of survival.
  7. absolutely fantastic. Crystal and Harrison have as many wins as star Junior Carter Dalgety at around 40 wins each this year (season) already. Junior 'House' has a few more than that even, but his are nearly all country horse wins. so 4th best at moment IMO. with 4 quality drivers like that leading the Junior ranks , with more Wins than ever for junior drivers in a year, things are looking great for driving in Harness racing for years to come.
  8. You are close to the money there Mr Galah. Dean Shannon has raced horses for a lot of years . Belle of Montana won 4 Group 1's racing out of Barry Purdons and Lanercost won 4 Group 1's as well for Darryl Graham. He was purchased out of a NZ ready to run sale as well fairly cheap , and won the Chariots of Fire I think. Anyway , any policy he was 'encouraging' would come across as if he was trying to get races for his horses, so best he say nothing and Not get people worked up about this sort of thing. (He doesn't need the money, he just loves the sport and racing horses, the bonuses and small fields are OPEN for ALL to contest anyway , that can be bothered . Seymour was accused of this once in Brisbane . He has a stud (like Dean does) as you have to spend your millions on something. and a lot of his moves/sponsorships, etc a while back, were 'perceived' as being favourable to his 100's of foals he breeds. He gives some to Trent Dawson now , who is winning plenty of races for 'Solid Earth ' as well. But he gets no criticism now as he saved Albion Park , and now gets the best horse of all time LEAP TO FAME as his reward. note : Was good to see Dean get MERLIN (nearly the best NZer) as his reward too. great Karma to the absolute TOP Stalwarts of the Sport !!
  9. Pretty huge over here Chief. The Star in Sydney gave so much leeway to known Chinese Money laundering that they face a Fine of $400,000,000. they are on the cusp of going out of business. quite sad really. A Macau based operator was 'turning over' over $70,000,000 PER WEEK for over a four year period recently. The Star in Sydney were caught eventually and are currently crying for leniency. No Doubt ENTAIN is Very Careful how the Chinese try and launder through their books , and have control over the bets going through. Why is it poor Brodster ? Dean Shannon arranged for Entain to sponsor NZ harness in a big way and you keep saying they are just wasting the money ? How are they wasting it ? He got Ladbrokes to sponsor QLD harness in a very Big way and saved the day . How is this bad ? What is the poor Financial decision you keep saying ENTAIN made ?? helping prop up HRNZ is surely a GOOD thing?
  10. Just not prepared to advance yourself Brodster. The Guy tried to help. He is a TOP bloke who loves Harness racing and races the NZ FFA and Grins Race winner Merlin ( and about 15 other horses )with Barry P and Scott. Buying yearlings every year to support your industry. He has an excellent record in Australia running Betting companies. His sale to Ladbrokes included a deal where they run my local QLD harness virtually, and we would of Collapsed with out them. NZ harness was about to collapse as Many have/do point out on these forums constantly over the years , yet you want blemish a man who has tried to step in and help. here's some of his fine record of establishing /selling companies that helped himself (and Entain to Millions in revenue and earnings) Quote from the article Chief posted . Space> The exit of Shannon from the business draws the curtain on a 13-year association with the Ladbrokes brand. Back in 2012, Shannon launched startup corporate bookmaker Bookmaker.com.au before selling it a year later to Ladbrokes which served as the international brand's entry point into the robust Australian market. Five years later, Shannon then founded Neds.com.au which found a niche market in sports and racing betting, before it was also sold to the owners of Ladbrokes, consolidating its place in the Australian market. Part of the Neds transaction in 2017 saw Shannon take the reins as boss of the Australian business for Entain where it has enjoyed significant market growth during that time.
  11. More excellent comment from you . You understand racing very well. The barrier draw is crucial to your chances in the speed racing here. We even had a Standing start for the fast class last Saturday night that didn't want to take on LEAP TO FAME in the mobile FFA. The result was 1-2-3 for the 3 front markers . The speed and judgement they use here is just so good that the 10m and 20m start those horses had on the others was enough to run the Trifecta. all 3 beating the favourite Captain Hammerhead (4th off 20m) , a very nice horse who we have discussed previously. I hate stands , but they are a GREAT LEVELLER . yes Brittany's dad Darryl Graham was a very good driver in his day ( had a terrible race track injury once which stopped him a bit) raced against him many times. And yes perhaps i'm being unfair with how I graded Brittany's efforts. She doesn't go around enough to get any better. Pete McMullen is sensational here , and is Better than Grant D even, and his 3 sisters all have fantastic results too and give their horses a chance everytime. Brittany Graham more likely to be 'Back burried 4 back fence' or somewhere like that. Have never bet on her drives Once ever. We have such a great line -up of drivers it would be folly to do so. Adam Sanderson will be driving in some BIG races soon , I rate him only about 20th lol 🤣 you saw him in NZ with SPEAK THE TRUTH which he butchered there and here a few times. even though he placed in a Miracle Mile. Chasing LEAP TO FAME all the time can do that to you I spose ? rips the guts out of your horse. Adam did drive NZer MAJOR HOT in a bit of a fluke win in the QLD Derby last year for the Canterbury "BetNWIN ' White's . does get the odd winner. Even champs like Blair Orange probably have a "NOT so Good Drive' about one in Four drives ? is hard to get it right everytime as you have several all around you who Are ALL trying to win too. MarkP and Wolfie and AGH and Greg Sugars and Cam Hart, Pete McMullen drive TOP races nearly every race . there 'NOT so good ratio drives' is/was very low. One in 6 or 7 maybe ? . Crystal and Carter good like that too there? People like Adam and Brittany are probably one in TWO 'Not so good' drives. a few in NZ that Forbury labels might fit in that category ? 🤣🤣 c.Ferguson and B.Hope and Dickie a few times lol .😂
  12. Com'on Thomas . You have to stop calling them Cheats. These are PEOPLE , and they are making a living doing a very dangerous sport , and trying to get a speeding steed to the post first (or as high up as they can ) by DEMAND from the Public. You have openly 'Picked on ' Opie Bosson on several occasions . The bloke was a champion rider but handicapped by stupid restrictions that ask Jockeys to COUNT WHIP strikes during a race ?? This is so stupid as not only in the heat of battle where inches are Important to the result , but they are supposed to know where the 100m Mark is on every track , etc while negotiating tight quarters in a race , to make a winning run at them etc. Just seems so stupid . ANYWAY get a whip Review Panel in place for every race . That's what they do in UK apparently. This years Grand National winner jockey (in front of an audience of Millions) got this result . Patrick Mullins an amatuer jockey being the winner. Eight compared to Seven whip strikes? . My goodness , doubt the horses put in a complaint . what bloody difference does it make 🤣 Anyway Put in a WHIP REVIEW COMMITTEe old mate and get the shit sorted out that way ? People speed knowingly (sometimes accidently) on the road/highways everyday, and some get caught and punished. They are trying to cheat the system lol. Jockeys in a race shouldn't be called cheats. They're trying hard because it is the NATURE OF THE SPORT to do so. and a MAJOR REQUIREMENT. from the Grand National >> The winning jockey was given an eight-day suspension after the Whip Review Committee found he had used his whip eight times after the final fence, when the permitted number was seven times
  13. Yeah, Brittany drove in many races in Aus so she thinks she's knows the ropes and drivers intimately . Would be a struggle for her in NZ though . won't last long there. and as Galah says the weather/race conditions are different too let alone the people. Brittany was quite poor driver really who never drove an initiative race. just drove according to barrier draw to get the wins she did get. If she did have the microphone during the race she would of heard comments from those around her like "FFS get a move on Brit" "Are you still awake Brit" "Never mind Brit, you might get the money next time" etc.
  14. No doubt a few of the drivers are concentrating hard , and have to worry about the next few minutes without the added pressure Mikey . I don't care much for the banter she tries to get out of them at the start. The drivers she did speak to here pre-race, were always astoundingly polite though. Grant Dixon, Greg Sugars, Cam Hart ,Luke McCarthy ,etc. I guess they go around so many times in big races they are so relaxed as if chatting to you at the dinner table . Is quite remarkable. NZ drivers polite too. Tony Herlihy for example, is charm personified . Think Brittany would be better to do what they do here all the time on the gallops TV station, and just arrange to chat with a TRAINER pre-race , who is lining up on the side-line to watch the race , and not bother the drivers at all. They have more interesting things to say than the jockey/ driver as well , as know the horses progress and program , can give the owners and sponsors a plug and all sorts of things.
  15. Seen her doing that pre-race wander on the track here for many years. usually B -lined straight to Luke McCarthy or Grant Dixon of Greg Sugars in each state, nearly all the time as they always in the main chances every race. would be harder for her to pick someone there to do that with as drivers a bit more mixed 😂. Tu Tangata can trot a bit. I see it beat home all of OscarB , Mighty Logan and One Over All in the Rowe Cup recently , but a bit like Midnight Dash ( who has just one win in past 3 years 🙄) gets blown away by the star ones all the time. Both those horse would win them in a row in Brisbane . very hard there for them though. We did get some more Trotters NZ exports recently to Brisvegas . the fast class trot yesterday at Albion saw Eurokash 2nd on debut, Five Oclock Gerry 3rd and Taylad To Use (as hot fav ) was 4th on debut. some local beat the 3 of them this week, but they'll be winning soon enough. Monarch Hill from Herlihy's took a few runs but won at start 7. Guess not long till not enough left to race there in NZ in fast class trots ? they won't have em?
  16. A lot of Big races now in Australia the second last quarter is faster than the last. The driving style has changed a bit from sitting up and just making one run at them. The 4 races Group 3's on Saturday night ( 2 x 2yearold and 2 x 3 year old Breeders Finals ) were dominated by our 2 Giant stables of Dixon's and Pete McMullen who qualified 22 of the 40 Finalists between them . Dixon won one of them , and McMullen won 3 . His stable Junior driver getting one of the wins which was neat ! 👍😊 of course there are going to be driving instructions with so many runners. It would be FOLLY to go out there in those Big $50k races without some sort of plan. I'm just impressed they qualified so many. I already know they are tremendous drivers, but are training through the roof too. Leap To Fame only 'just' beat McMullen in the FFA even. what fine horsemen they are. Nearly the best I have seen anywhere. Am just saying in these days and times, to close your racing with the cost of living and that , and the cost of racetrack up-keep and paying staff there too, best to keep them Going at all times.?? I raced a number of horses with a member of the Cox family from Winton who came up to Auckland and had heaps of horses he had bred, and even in Auckland I would Spell them in Winter (and do another job with Mr Cox) and work them up through the Spring and just race them through the Summer . much more pleasant that way in the harsh NZ training weather conditions. 🤣 So yeah , i like the idea for comfort for closing the 2 -3 months winter, but Money-wise a lot of people would be struggling these days ? track staff ,stable staff ? gotta look after them as much as the horses. If they are tired ? just hopple them race day only, and canter and jog during the week to keep them happier between races might be an option? or as I told Brodie several times . BEST to race them over SHORTER DISTANCES. one mile to 2000m ONLY. horse's do much better with simple speed racing compared to the Very 'draining' Staying tests you often give them there at 2600 and that.
  17. yeah , but you have a brain. (for the sport) and can follow the form in races that meet your selection criteria. I think most BOAY posters are the few around that can turn a profit from Harness racing as they follow the sport closely. But only 10% of investors win race gambling on any given day. BOAY characters likely to be in the 10% as have a intricate knowledge of the sport. The 90 % are losers and the ones that Entain and ALL betting companies enjoy to look after 😁💰 but when you walk into a pub or club occasionally (i'm sure NZ close to same as Aus) you will see the crazy people transfixed and hypnotised by bells and whistles and flashing lights pumping megabucks through Pokies, and the TAB area is nearly abandoned. I find this in most towns pubs and clubs I have seen. The Crazies don't study horse form , and their numbers are large too, no way will they waste 'time' betting on harness 😂. Good money for the Government though in gambling taxes. Hope they do something good with it , but probably recycling to the same pensioners fortnightly, to put in the machines again 🤣😂 a vicious cycle.
  18. They will still be taking someones bets on some things somewhere. (probably less harness ? 🙄) Harness racing is just not that great to bet on. The excitement and prestige factor are gone. People (even tradition harness supporters like yourself and Harness forum posters don't even comment on the Interdominion anymore, and the comments made on the NZ Cup and The Betcha Race and things like that that are the pinnacle of our sport are talked about in a very unflattering manner. ) these things are/were important for the exposure of the sport to attract the new participants and Punters you were talking about. I Know No-one here who looks at NZ harness, even though still chat to racing folk. None of the galloping guys have even heard of Leap To Fame . the greatest horse ever racing just up the road. Harness NEVER gets on the news. It's gone from the public view. we are down to 8 horses fields I noticed this week from our usual 9 on our weekly Redcliffe Thursday meeting for slow horses, so things are slowing up participation wise as well. will be none left in a few years. I could save NZ harness with a few good idea's as there's still an underlying support there (just) with participants . and Nigel for example is trying hard with syndicates. and even Brodie and The Galah who sound like they have concern for the sport and maybe still an investment here and there. good on em' !! The Galah doesn't even like 2 year old bonuses (Things like that are actually IMPORTANT to the participants) , or racing in the South during Winter as he said on the new Southern Surge scheme. Imagine if they did stop for winter? 😆 you'd never start up again. Can't run a business with your horses in the paddock. might as well do something else all together. Anyway GET Your Bets On !! and keep em' going. I chip in with a couple of 50's each week 😉👍💰😂
  19. The Entain group use their sub- branch LADBROKES to run in partnership with Queensland harness. (and SA and probably others) Harness racing would of dropped off the map without their support. They have only 2 nights of Trotting per year put on National TV on the Free to air 24 hour per day racing channel. (Vic Cup and Hunter Cup nights) That is how SMALL it has become. Almost Non-existant to the home TV punter. trotting runs at a huge loss revenue wise. I'm sure it would be the same in NZ. Brodie is blaming Entain for the demise of the sport , when in fact they are rolling the Last Dice to Save it. BOAY has that many threads with everyone tearing the sport to Piece's that it's not hard to see the REAL Reasons the Sport is collapsing in NZ . Bean counters galore calling out the anything from small fields to Feature races they still put on as a 'waste of money' 'no interest tin them as can't bet' and endless criticism. The TAB branches closing everywhere is a Main contributing factor. I used to go down to my local branches all the time and place bets. (and chat with mates there) they closed the branches so past 3 years it's just on-line. ALL the betting companies WANT you on-line SO THEY CAN TRACK your activity. Seems logical in these days and times. The TAB taking your Huge ANONymous Bets each week are RELIC of the PAST Brodster. I know you would like to go back to those 'good old days' of doing that . BUT you can't . you're 'not on the Money' anymore old mate. TABman has it worked out better 😋😁😉 Meanwhile HRNZ and Racing QLD are still putting on as Many Big (and small regular) races , as Humanly possible, to support the great harness folk who still partake as participants in the industry. good on em'!!💰 .
  20. geez Tab 4 mate, you should be careful as carrying the name TAB around here has it's downside. Brodie thinks TAB stands for Total Absolute Bullshit , with the way he believes he is treated by them. You wouldn't want to get mixed up with that lot.😋😎
  21. They had the Big Australian Steeple just yesterday at Sandown. STERN IDOL now 11 wins from 22 over jumps for Maher. But your kiwi mate Mr Walker did get 2nd with LEADERBOARD ok. The Australian Hurdle went to the Payne Siblings Michelle and Patrick who now co-train the team these days. A beautiful Grey horse for them, named THE CUNNING FOX has made it 6 starts for 6 Wins over the sticks . Michelle the feature of the Movie 'Ride Like A Girl' that shows like with ex-pat kiwi Paddy Payne and all his children after his wife was tragically killed in a car accident. What a great racing family they are. love those horse racing movies. The one (movie) on Ollie winning 'The Cup' on Media Puzzle pretty good too.
  22. I've tried TABman , but no amount of Mentoring has helped them in the slightest. 🤣 So you should skip the Mentor Phase and just go straight to LEGEND of the Track status old mate , like Gammalite . We're a bit short of MBE however, so we might leave that to Roy 🏆 and Wolfie 🏆. 😁👍
  23. I think they have finished in all the Aussie states bar Victoria now TABman. I loved going to great Northern Day at Ellerslie as a kid and seeing Kenny Browne leading them over that big hill a couple of times. Couldn't do that now without hurdling people's new back yard fences I spose . Horse would be pissed off having to jump every 20m lol 😁. could be the odd swimming pool hazard as well 🤣 . Not much different to the Melbourne Cup for risk to horses anyway. We've seen many favoured runners coming to grief in that including Favourites which would of had thousands of people supporting them > I.e Dulcify, Admire Rakti and even more recently favs Cliffs of Moher and Anthony Van Dyck also met the MC undertaker. Perhaps the jumping is safer because they go slower ?? Sandown seemed safe (like NZ tracks) with lots of water on like you suggested. perhaps the (MC)🏆 could drop back to 2400m really like they have done with the Brisbane Cup🏆. Melbourne Cup sure has a high attrition rate with runners ( and runners preparing for it too) on the firmer Spring tracks
  24. Get some of the Grand National Ones then Chief. They are quite spectacular. They recently had the 2025 Grand National with a capacity field of 34. Won by 'Nick Rockett' trained in Ireland by Willie Mullens and ridden to victory by his son Patrick. 2nd home was last years winner 'I Am Maximus'. Imagine getting around that course twice ? 16 of the 34 starters completed the course this year . 4 fallers (all ok after) , 1 lost rider, 13 Pulled up.
  25. There you go Mikey. You missed an easy $5.00 winner in a 7 horse field. Great odds !! A champion young NZ bloke and near the best horseman in the whole country (who I hope can WIN Interdominion soon as well) and no chance of getting buried on the paint , pushed 6 wide and all that sort of shit. You guys are just POOR at recognizing a GOOD betting race. That Fillies race was one of them. Go The Gambit !🏆💰 and watch out for young Carter in the Sapling Stakes as well. Only 8 in it and 2 of them are his. Bring em' home Carter
