    • i see its in tomorrow and is paying $1.85 on the ff.   Its only got 6 other rivals and only 1 of those has placed previously. gee,its not a strong field.Morrie afton paying $2.25 the other favorite. bizza too only paying $1.18 to run in top 2. personally i think the prices are ridiculous, but then again, what else is in there that could win.Maybe canlmbeforethestorm paying $10 could win,but it breaks all the time  and that stable used to prefer to place and not win.But it does have a driver on who likes to win. who knows, something will win though.
    • Actually, 'nowadays' most live in urban areas!  Myself, the entry was the 'local clubs',  Addington and Riccarton.  Back then, early 70's,  lots of crowds and excitement was to be had almost weekly! Of course another big difference back then was that the working class man had a spare $ in their back pockets.   What with this current 'cost of living crisis' I'm surprised that many punting numbers would be up?
    • Galah, I think the bigger problem is that the stake money the horses will be racing for, is going to be significantly less than currently, in s couple of years. If Entain had not come along and put all this money in for 5 years, what would we be currently racing for dollar wise? No way will they be maintained at todays level in 2 years time unfortunately, unless Entain continues to chuck big amounts in, and we know that is not happening! HRNZ should be acting far more conservatively than they have been but then again I am not on the big bucks with HRNZ or TAB!
    • My simple read, so knowing that the old days of instant accurate betting is no longer available, that as 'us oldie$' in the racing betting pools decline, retire, pass on... that some  younger punters might show some interest,  but the simple reality of how hard it is to bet a winner in racing,  on the surface its way easier with Sports betting...
    • Why? I'd say they are missing quite a few. There are over 4,900 licensed online betting sites worldwide as of 2025. This includes sportsbooks offering sports and racing bets online. When considering both online and offline operators (including retail bookmakers), estimates suggest around 30,000 licensed bookmakers globally.
