  1. Basil dean one of my favs, and for exciting wins, no response was awesome to watch, with his late withering bursts. Those were the days, were some very special horses from that era
  2. I can remember that, you told me the red card was on the way, was after a funny picture you posted,.
  3. They are treated rather harsh by the judiciary at times, they must remember they are only learning and will make mistakes. Sometimes there fines are hefty enough to chase a few away.
  4. Many of these I have forgotten, but Canterbury belle was a top preformed.
  5. They certainly were very good trainers of that era, and always had some nice horses, and the two top ones you named, I think they had one called redback and also the snob who I will always remember, as I got my first trifecta with him, straight line was also a very good horse they had, a trip down memory lane, they were good days.
  6. You have all forgotten the best horse from the coast, Durban chief, 3 dominion handicaps, 16 wins I think in nz, and another 32 in America, first nz horse to win first up over there, was bred by the Craddocks and flew to America with a galloper call up n coming, who done his prunes on the flight and they had to have a emergency stop in Hawaii, not many win 3 dominions, what a top horse he was, and you won't see another of his caliber from over there. A forgotten legend. Anyone remember him.
  7. Most are sit and Sprint these days, a shame if you have a out n out stayed, and not to many of them these days.
  8. The ups and downs of racing, makes those wins very special.
  9. Had a mate that thought he had swine flu, he rung the 0800 hotline, but all he got was crackling.
  10. Known these days as my carona's.
  11. Only 8 viewers at mine, us and 6 friends, all i could muster, can't beat the old registery job, quick n cheap, only way to go, has lasted 24 years so far, they say you only get 10 years for murder, im in to my third sentence. Its was that or nothing, lucky she was so understanding.
  12. To painful to sit through that, hard enough hearing about for a long time, glad its over.
  13. Must be frustrating for the owner of a dour stayer, mind you those days are gone in my book, majority of horses bred and trained for speed, but i guess time is money.
  14. Not many staying races with pace on these days, a shame to be honest, doesn't make it a true staying test, a buggar if you own one that can't go with them when they only run a quick last 600m. Something that i thinks needs to be addressed.
  15. Certainly a lot of broodmares on gavel these days, some in foal, and some empty, tidy sires some of them to, at the end of the day, i reckon you just need that luck, no matter how well bred they are, or not, be interesting to hear some feed back from people that have purchased stock from the site.

You don't get many that win 51 races, what an achievement by the washdyke wonder, along with phar lap certainly a lot of history from down their, talking of that, i see a horse called star performance racing today, remember some years ago, the same name of the dam of jonny alone, also from that region, what a smart horse he was, winning the jarden mile at Wellington, from memory another from the deep south, called knight invaded was second or third, could not in anyway put them in the category of the other two, but just jogged my memories from some years ago.Jonny alone i think was by the unfashionable sire blue vermillon.
  17. Well jess, you may just have that eye for a nice horse, good on you for following your dream of breeding a nice one, and the satisfaction when you achieve that, my late uncle had a few interesting sayings, a few more spring to mind, about horses, easily to get hold of, hard to get rid of, if your going to ruin a racehorse, you may as well do it to your own specifications, a fool and there money are easily parted. He battled away with a few, had a nice mare by grey gull, we thought, work and trial like a very good horse, unbeaten in her trials, but alas race day didn't want to be their, won a race with her, went to stud and got injured and passed on, when he did get a promising one he broke down, certainly gave me as a young boy, a lesson in just how tough the game is, im under no illusions just how hard it is, in my wee foray in the breeding and racing, if we are lucky enough to get one there, nothing is a given in this game, thats for sure.Good luck with your team, and we will keep the breeding thread ticking over.
  18. Missed the christchurch sales after going the last two years, would have like to see some of the atlante's stock, and a few others, its always interesting to go to see these sales, and see the stock sold, and then see them at the races, did see the raise the flag horse sold at the first sale, name civil disobedience done well on the track in Australia, and zacinto horse thats won its first two starts lately..The poor breeders are battling, i remember my uncle had a saying.Wise men ride them, fools breed them, have never forgotten it. Having a wee interest in a broodmare that has a filly by duelled, that did have some issues when foaling, i can see him smiling from above.Must admit to enjoying the breeding and researching the lineage of some lines.
