How are things travelling in the r.i.u. at the moment mardi ? Enjoying the job ?
-
Won't be a kiwi. Bet on it.

Stewards get paid regardless. They are on salaries. So why should owners pay them anything? I don't get your post. They get paid for doing sweet f all most of the time.
-
Why would you have to pay for it? At most meetings they seem to have 4 stewards so what the hell do they do? surely one of them can be in charge of obtaining information/changes etc and passing it on,or is that too much like 2019...

Chief I've been watching for 17 hours and I really need to take a leak...is the expose due in the next few minutes or can I water the lily? p.s. no suggestion of any political interference or hijacking on my part, just nature calling ?
-
Thats correct Freda. Very succinct. The great big elephant in the room is the costs incurred by NZTR, including huge salaries etc and an ever increasing RIU. Further, the so called 'Dead Horse' Racing Board, which doesn't yet look too dead to me. What does look sick is the Minister. Big talker...Messara comes out with a report suggesting the impossible, peters appoints another ' inquiry' committee which to my mind is nothing more than a smoke-screen. Clearly the govt is under huge pressure from all areas..does anyone think they'll come to racings rescue? Sales look very average. It looks to me that most of the tracks headed for oblivion are run by voluntary labour, and owned by Clubs...try getting money out of private clubs...its all been said before but I'm not holding my breath for any good news. Might just wander down to the best little pub in Dunders and drown some sorrows?

Can someone explain something to me...lets say you are are one man band in racing, train a few of your own etc...and you get hold of a horse with some potential. You're not gst registered so you can't claim gst on your purchases. You're not a 'trainer' you don't claim expenses or declare a 'profit' because your'e not doing the horses as a 'business'. So you manage to sell the horse that showed potential. You make..say $40k in round figures...over all of your expenses. So why would you be expected to pay anything to the govt? Your endeavour, you took the risk..?

His nickname is ' The Mirror'..he can't stop looking into them?...jeeze how clever and good lookin' I m am

I cannot agree with you....then do kiwifruit growers get blasted with cgt for exporting to Asia? Do people who farm salmon get blasted with cgt for exporting fish to Japan? Do tuna fishermen get....you get the drift. Horses are just like any other 'product' so if any govt starts taxing export products as ' capital gains' as well as income tax this country is well and truly stuffed...and its heading that way now btw.

At the risk of being admonished for bringing politics up again...and by the way, we're in the middle of a crisis involving a politician who has made a lot of promises ( peters I'm talking about, not the housing idiot) so politics is intrinsically involved in this discussion especially.. what will be interesting is when Cullen releases his 'report' on capital gains tax..if it goes the way many predict it will involved a tax of up to 33% on anything sold at a profit-not, they say, your family home but thats still to be determined. So the yearlings bought at these sales and sold on at RTR sales or as trial/race winners may attract this cgt ..thats if labour are still in govt after the next election ( 2020-next year ). Something to think about eh?

Chief...a preponderance is ' a superiority in numbers, influence etc'.... maybe the word your'e searching for could be.. 'prediliction'?..." a mental preference, or preference" ? I'll put my hand up for that. I just hate the simpering left.?

I agree. I don't exactly 'love' him..that would be taking things too far. I have a lot of admiration for his stamina. Its been well over 12 months since Taxinda was propped up into temporary prime ministership by the ailing winstone. And Tommo's still following her like a blind man. And a deaf man too. Speaking of dogs, a mate of mine had a pit bull with a huge studded collar..he'd pull on the lead if the dog got too boisterous. Thats what BOAY needs, a collar for Tommo. And a lead attached so it can be yanked if necssary.?
-
Can't you work it out for yourself? NZ Bloodstock are financing him. The vendors of the horses he buys are paid by NZ Bloodstock. He doesn't pay NZB until the horses are all sold on into syndicates. I thought that was obvious. Lets see NZ Bloodstock deny it.

Reefton as a matter of interest has your club had any official contact/discussions with NZTR..or anyone else?

Some people responding to Tommo's original post, and also Tommo, seem to think that owners/trainers/jockeys are involved in some type of conspiracy to cheat punters out of their hard earned $$$....I don't subscribe to that theory. Unless your'e talking about horses like Winx or Black Caviar or other absolute champions, horse is racing is far from an 'exact' science. Isn't that the attraction? If you don't like risking your dough, stick it in the bank at a fixed interest rate-then you'll know exactly what you're going to get. Having a punt is totally the opposite. Its the unknown, the unexpected, that is the 'drug' of having a punt. So. Don't expect to be told everything-you have to work some things out for yourself. And I agree with mardigras-don't expect to be spoon fed. And please, don't go crying to mummy if the race doesn't work out the way you expected and you lost your cash. Harden up. What's that expression from some US President..." if you can't stand the heat-don't go into the kitchen". Brilliant. (Pity that he was an absolute fraud and a cheat.-Nixon )

Bummer. One of the best horses we've seen for a long time...hope its not the same as Xcellent ( tendon )

Its great to see this old boy still hale and heart...and delivering.. Now, lets digress for a moment...to a story of another grey haired old bugger..who aint delivering..know who I mean? Maybe Subzero, or an old grey horse like him in NZ. can make it to the Karaka sales complex in a few days..the human old bugger with dementia symptons could jump on his back and be led into the parade ring like some Knight from days gone by and scream 'all is saved, I'm here...here's the great news you've been expecting from me....maidens to rise to $6000 !! Group 1's to be a minimum of $120,000 !! We're building a track at...Thames!!....Taxinda's behind you...(sniggering..thanks for getting me the starring role you silly of bugger).. Because in all seriousness the industry better start praying for a ' White Knight' to come to its rescue bloody soon !

there is no feckin issue. Tommo has been sucked in by this PC touchy feely bunch of losers calling itself a government..thats the real issue.
-
So...........what is that peters has actually done What's changed since August 2018 when Messara returned his copy of the agenda from peters, duly signed. ? Oh shit, hang on, you think messara drafted that report from scratch, dont you?
-
Nothin wrong wit the boondocks tommo. And....what exactly has peters ' done' for the industry? Stakes are still pitiful, no alternative ( synthetic or otherwise) tracks on the horizon, Racing Board still blowing harder than moby dick, riu still spending huge amounts on travel, nztr/rib still appointing people to superfluous positions on ridic salaries.......want me to go on? Tell me ONE thing that is constructive since peters took over as minister. p.s. committees and reports by old mates are not constructive. They are smoke screens .

Can we please get the DRONE to NZ to find any trace of another 'DRONE'...this one is named Winstone. Can they instruct the drone to look for a Dead Horse? Thats what Peters is looking like.?♀️
-
Yes thats correct Curious. Tommo should read a bit of history, plenty of evidence of dictators, tyrants, etc stifling criticism of their regimes...burning books, painting symbols on windows, beating up non believers...if the RIU can't cop a bit of criticism then maybe they should harden up...or try harder.

Calling Witless Winston and the idiot Journalists
Kopia replied to Reefton's topic in Galloping Chat
Winnie won't be welcomed around parliament just now. News reports are that he has been making 'dictatorial statements and declarations on NZ's position on a number of matters'...without consulting the tooth fairy. Naughty Winstone. Maybe your suggestion that 3 glasses of wine a night are 'medicinal' is not all that it seems for you. Shoulda stuck with the JB pal. -
Nothing in the stewards report...must have been busy having a cup of tea or something and missed it
