Absolutely !! there has been plenty of debate about the 'Whip' use with harness horses and Thoroughbred horses for months/ years now. You can never get the rule 'just right' to suit everyone. I'm sure those big races last century in history are consigned to that. History. and everyone is glad to see the changes have resulted in a more subdued product. Mick 'the enforcer' Dittman Aus, and Jim 'the pumper' Cassidy wouldn't be able to use their riding style these days. A great Outcome of this , is the fantastic progress made by the females in racing . Jamie Kah , Danielle Johnson , Natalie Rasmussen and most races are now 'riddled' with the young female jockeys and drivers throughout the harness and galloping races in every state of Aus and NZ, as the Reliance on strong 'standover driving/ riding' is not required or tolerated anymore. Hey, one bloke slipped up in Tas going back to the 'old ways', and had the race taken off him !!! sign things are still changing for the better. here's the clipping, I'll paste here. The winner of Tasmania's premier harness race has been disqualified over what has been described as a shocking breach of the rules by the horse's driver. The decision, possibly the first of its kind in Australia, comes almost six weeks after the running of the $75,000 Tasmania Cup in Hobart.21 Apr 2021

have been to 100 different tracks Aus and NZ but never got to see Forbury Park alas. As a teen in Auckland , did have one memory of Forbury Park, as dad a crazy punter, had this 'Special of ALL time ' from a nationwide tip /word of mouth and media, for a Derek Jones MMNZ trained horse running at Forbury Park in the Spring of 1979. Derek took the pacer the long trip to Forbury Park for the use of the mobile as he had refused to 'step' in his first 2 race starts from a stand in maidens , and was proving difficult to get away. Dad , (and much of NZ ) sending the horse with a '00 formline' out as Hot favourite. unfortunately a Forbury Park maiden was too hot !!, for the barrier rogue and rather than follow the mobile to the start, He tangled and took the easy way out, by Crashing to the Forbury Park deck. " Hands Down, he's down alright" said the commentator . Teen self saying to my losing dad, "Doubt that will ever win a race" "can't even get it started in the race". Hand's Down got back up off the deck ok, and after leaving Forbury behind as a 'bad night out', went on to win about 30 races, including the NZ Cup and NZ FFA. !!

Places of History being demolished is a real tragedy. Forbury Park being another great harness track to go the way of the greats (horses and people) that raced there. consigned to memories and history. Gammalite loves an Interdominion, having won 2 of them, and loving all the great NZ and Aus champions that have competed in it. THEN, one night in history at Forbury Park 1965, in the near 100 year History of the greatest Race there is ,The Interdominion Grand-Final , there was 2 winners in one go !!!! A VERY FAMOUS dead-heat between champion NZ mare Robin Dundee (Doody Townley) flashing up out wide, and Jay Ar (George Noble) . Both starting from the 12yard handicap. Still keeps Forbury Park in Dunedin as the one host track of an Interdomion Grand-Final Dead heat , to date , maybe forever.

The field is out with barriers for the $1/4mill Rising Sun in Brisbane Saturday evening. A mini Interdominion for the big prize. 3 from NZ, 7 from NSW, 1 from Vic, and sadly ................................1 from Queensland (BlacksADance).. good grief , you could pull Blacks A Fake (4 time Interdominion winner for Nat) out of the retirement paddock and nearly beat it home lol. Best QLD 4 yearolds 'Governor Jujon' (17 wins from 24) and former kiwi 'One Change' (8 wins from 15 in Bris) are missing in action. (or non-action) ANYWAY , It's up to the KIWI's to carry the day !!! The sun rises in NZ well before here in Brissy lol.... KRUG, AMAZING DREAM ,COPY THAT , looks a spanking chance of taking the trifecta ! That was tame as!!..... if you want to see some real whip work have a crack at the next Interdominion at Addington after that one. YouTube will show it. 1987 Interdominion at Addington and an Aussie one-two-three in the Pacers Grand- final. My Lightning Blue getting 24 Full-Blooded strikes all the way up the home straight from Jimmy O'Sullivan. You won't see stuff like that again . Mango getting stuck into Luxury Liner there too. All seems pretty mild these days?

Think you on the money there Galah. the stewards seem reluctant to take action against the star players. Think a lot of team driving whether Telfer or Allstars , Dunn or other has been highlighted on BOAY . If we can see it , you would think stewards would hahahaha ... I think if it (team driving) doesn't decrease your drives chance of winning, it is fine but obviously the case you high-lighted with D Ferguson letting Serrento win was a VERY dubious one indeed. his horse was butchered. Grant Dixons wife Trista got a YEAR DQ, !!! for moving to one side to let hubby Grant win on Our Overanover once. You can't muck around with these things. rub them out . or more will copy and you don't want that.

In Victoria today in 2021, a great ex-pat kiwi trainer is still bringing home a trotting winner . His son driving a winner for them today as co-trainers, Can you name this magnificent animal that he won plenty with in NZ , including one of the most Dashing Wins ever seen at Addington in a feature race ever? Double points if you can get the 2 Aussies who ran second and third in that amazing performance.

hahaha yeah 'Suicide Sam' Pete Mcmullen came blazing out of the outside gate with some outsider and stuffed things up. I was on BALRAJ , as McCarthy seems to win every second race he's in , and it DREW WELL. Thought BALRAJ would lead in the slop, but got nice drop on Spankem after that blazing first quarter anyway. BUT NO !!! not to be . Anthony Butt driving with the style and ability that everyone Loves . and Winning . !! Hey something everyone BOAY agrees on. !!!!!!!! fabulous driver Anthony Butt !! Too good . not many win from where he was at 1/4 , yet Ant's did it!!. full credit . and a poor loss to gammy lol.....
-
Hey , just posting COPY THAT from Saturday night for those that didn't see him rip down the outside in the slop, to yet another nice Victory for him !! well done Ant's driving and Ray Green training. Spankem is right there in the firing line in the black shadow roll, NOT far away at all. He's going well (subject to opinion on this thread)!!! lol.... poor old bugger. The second placegetter there, is kiwi-bred BALRAJ. A victor over KING of SWING last year. !!! amazing. hasn't won this year though for McCarthy in 8 starts. but still going well. no one saying he lost a leg lol..... It's bloody hard to win at this level !!!! what are you guys thinking? Local champion COLT THIRTY ONE , near the 2nd best QLD horse ever, has NOT won this Year yet either. That shows how hard it is to win at this level. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lost a leg phfffff. Copy That !! wow !! how good and KRUG too. my EXPENSIVE EGO tickets are looking Very shaky indeed ?? thanks to the shakey Isles.
-
Courage Under Fire ?? just a guess, but he is the sire of SMOLDA amongst others that did well. Allstars are certainly under No pressure to produce a leading sire from their racing stock. However, Sure hope ALL the folk with a Lazarus foal get a winner on their hands !! (and not all at Cullens lol....) Auckland Reactor was a flop I think? American bloodlines still dominate. BETTORS DELIGHT becoming the best in all history it seems. NZ and Oz . here has 300 winners from 500 starters approx this season. going great guns.

Oh yes , the 'Master' jumped straight up . lifting the plastic running rail out of the way himself lol. thank goodness not solid rail.!!. One of my first visits to Alexandra Park , and Mark Purdons brother Owen Purdon, had a crash in front of the Grandstand, on 'Egmont Kawhai 'who got impaled on the running rail they used to have!!!, Was very distressing to see all that damage. (to the horse). One of those shocking things that just stays with you. rail removal and change to marker poles a true blessing in the 90's.!! Anyway , I sort of meant does Jamie Richards himself need to set horses in the jumps?. wouldn't the High profile Te Akau brand, be better to Lead the way in Group racing? I do admire 'experts' in their field though. The late Ken Browne (jumping trainer icon) won every time over fences, the few times I went to Ellerslie. just a legend!. But this century? can't they just put those old horses over a 2 mile 'slow' flat course or something?
-
All good. The fact many 'question' the success is likely to warrant extra attention and keep everything honest and above board. I questioned the staggering recent success of GRIMSON /TRAINOR team 'Barn' at Menangle recently , on another thread. Stewards even locked their barn up under supervision for a while last month to see whats going on. think they won another 3 races on Saturday from memory. red cells are in order on their runners ok hehehehe TURN IT UP is a real beauty !! hey that is a great record in NZ ! Mark races him still I think? not 100% sure. But he does race AKUTA !! AKUTA could be the next Lazarus too.!! great reward for Mark . and lets hope Cullen can keep all those red blood cells in order ?? Enjoy the racing !!
-
Chief, just a quick question to have tiny break from the 'rigor's' of defending poor old Spankem and Allstars for a second, what did you think of the Leading galloping stable starting that hurdler on Saturday? BAK DA MASTER for Jamie Richards in Race 2 Sat was going to win too , but crashed shockingly at the last fence or second last fence in a jaw dropping moment.?? Does he need that?? The leading stable with 'Melody Belle colours' crashing to Terra Firma after flying high up and over? I had a look at those first 3 races at Hastings Saturday, and as Galah said on gallops thread , that was sort of awful, in my opinion as well. The jockey in horse falling at the last fence, in race 2 nearly got launched into orbit !!!! held my breath for that one. Seems so unnecessary ? for want of a better word these days . (Because of risk to horse and Jockey IMO)
-
Well I'm confused with this , as you said you thought TURN IT UP should of won the race , (and beat CopyThat,Spankem,Colt31) and yet is only a poor version of the NZ one? ??contradiction. but anyway see what he does next , as always. I see you support paleface and red blood cells theory, well I'm sick of that arguement . But will just add there is DECADES of SUCCESS. so how long red blood cells in action? mmmmm .....not decades? might be a red herring !! lol.......smarts required. lol... No, they were the best !! but horses like Cruz Bromac and Princess Tiffany have Group1 success elesewhere too. so please give the horses some credit sometimes. not just the 'red cell' theory lol....... (tongue in cheek) LAZARUS is a stallion ??? goat.
-
Why ?? I can't see why they believe that rubbish? (Brodie and Newmarket yeah maybe as always) but com on' guys ! Spankem hasn't lost form. He did very well in that race, is what Chief and I are saying. Burned early. aggressive drive from Kylie. Sloppy track. we had a bit of rain so whoever commented on the time ran is DREAMING. Sunshine Coast gallops were canned altogeather. Track record record is 1.50.4 I quite expect them to miss it by 2 seconds in the slop. Spankem has beaten by KING OF SWING and COPY THAT at his last 2 starts. Two of the Very Best in the Southern Hemishere?? surely you guys agree to that fact at least?. Do you seriously think SPANKEM should be beating them ???? He's Not LAZARUS !!!!!!!!!!! I'm just arguing you're 'asking too much' of the great horse. make him sound like a cat? or Queensland trainers are useless.? Two things I strongly disagree with > >>>> that's my comment. We could discuss many Allstars horses and I totally disagree with that too. Smooth Deal even won in Oz recently lol.... There is no 'Trend' .Horses good there have been good here too. (acknowledged by Newmarket even???? )goodness! lol...... Galah said TURN IT UP should of won Sat? where's the loss of form then ?? We did have a GROUP 1 here in Brissy a while back, and he ran third to KING OF SWING and COLT 31, the very Best Possible result he could achieve I feel ??? The great GAMMALITE himself won an Auckland Cup like TURN IT UP as well, but had only one 2nd placing in 6 starts at Addington. And doesn't mean he lost form or anything. Just had some SERIOUS OPPOSITION.
-
not you too paleface, as you showed great judgement in pointing out Shockwave in the wild west as a good un' Spankem hadn't won his 4 starts this year in NZ either before leaving NZ shores? COPY THAT had won quite a few !! so why is Spankem supposed to be beating him all the time? I can't see it. how? Thought NZ enthusiasts would be REJOICING with the fact two Superstars have emerged , KRUG and COPY THAT , neither are Allstars or Cullens horses.? , isn't that what ALL you Blokes wanted ????? instead all want to pick on one of the 'hardest tryers' going around , brilliant tryer SPANKEM. plenty of seconds but still a Miracle Mile winner. just not winning when you all want him too? did win here 2 starts ago anyway. dribble on.
-
yeah i spose . That NZ FFA win was pretty awesome! by 3 lengths. It was only THE FIXER running 2nd in that NZ FFA though. a horse I would be more likely pick on , with lost leg IMO hehehe. Spankem was eye-balled last lap by Colt Thirty One (46 wins from 83 starts) and they were run down by quality opponents, in Copy That and Balraj. I wasn't too surprised they both finished a length off the win. Yeah , like these days not much point changing colours each race as same drivers go round mostly. a band of 15 or so who are in most races. use their own comfy silks (and own sulkies too BTW) on differing trainers runners. They would wear owners colours if requested though no Problem. Training very easy when racing once a week . horse dashes around for 2 mins and mostly they cover up and just sprint home. easy recovery . couple of trainers don't hopple at all at home race fit horses . swim and a canter. yes the short distance racing important. anything over the mile and a quarter is hard to bounce back from as easily, as they work waaay more in the running of those races, so a little flat racing the following week. NOTE with our locals racing the 2600m Redcliffe Cup stand last Friday , those runners a little 'Flat' this week, like Colt Thirty One and also McCarthy's only unplaced runner last night 'BETTOR ENFORCE' the fav in race 1 last night.

I must say you and Forbs and Newmarket being quite tough on Spankem. Very tough indeed. He has a 1st, a 3rd and a 4th recently as his Oz form? what is wrong with that ?? (not counting lost driver race) the 3rd by Spankem was to King of Swing. He can't beat him. Undisputed heavyweight champion of Australia with 16 wins and 4 placings since joining the McCarthy barn early last year. (one of those placings was to BALRAJ once as well and Lochinvar Art twice) and BALRAJ was the one finishing 2nd last night to COPY THAT , with Spankem 4th. Am sure Copy That was the NZ Cup favourite? so is No slug. maybe Spankem only on a par with Copy That at his best ???? finished alongside each other in Auckland Cup. Has been well over 2 years since the great Miracle Mile win. In NZ Spankem has 13 wins from 40 starts ? nice but not sensational. Aus form is 7 wins from 14 starts !! Spankem actually does better here . why Bag him?. he's doing fine. surely, Balraj camping on his back , and Copy That smothered up till late, were intitled to Match Spankem last night, at least ?? They're all nice horses. COLT THIRTY ONE a battling 6th , but like Spankem , only 4m off last night winner of COPY THAT. I'm not crying over COLT31 losing, maybe get em' next time. ? (Not if King of Swing in it though) Colt finished alongside Spankem last night. and he's pretty good too. toss it in ?? what a lot of rot I reckon lol.........

AMERICAN DEALER closed in late in the last race at Brisbane for a good 2nd. So kiwi trainer Ray Green just misses the double. he went quite nicely. TEAM 'McCarthy' 12 Starters for 6 Wins, 3 seconds, 2 thirds , and one unplaced (sack that one ? lol...) The SuperStable once again in fine form. !! ***only 2nd (Balraj) to the great win of COPY THAT though. They won a trotting heat of our Qld trotting championship HUMBLE LADD , a 'Williamson' trotter until recently. double GROUP 1 winner 'Pink Galah's' won the 2nd Heat for the trotters easily. To give him a shout, and For a Laugh I added up the best Qld trotter handicaps, who ran 2nd to Pink Galahs, OUR OVERANOVA. He is kiwibred and last raced there 2013 !! now 12 years old and posted 63 wins from 198 starts. He has started off 40m handicap or longer in 84 of those starts !!!! astonishing to be so competitive chasing from the back, all the time. His total handicaps add up to over 5000m (or 5 kilometres) of handicaps !!!!! ....... lol...... many off 50 and 60 m behind. I know QLD opposition pretty tame, but what a great old timer , all the same to do that.
-
Shane Graham was much more aggresive with kiwi ITALIAN LAD (leading from 7 alley) ant then ran 2nd to McCarthy's $1.50 shot. ex kiwi Spirit of St LOUIS. Shane has 2750 career wins so knows what he's doing ok mostly (16% win rate to drives total) exactly the same strike rate over time, as the leaders Grant Dixon and Pete Mcmullen . yeah 'Turn It Up' was an error I think. Italian Lad Looked a pretty good run to me, 5 lengths clear of 3rd. an ex purdon horse. reckon Aussies like em" ok. Princess Tiffany some Group 1 's this year too. Can't improve horses on Allstars anyway, is impossible, so what is Newmarket dribbling about ???? would be like trying to get a galloper to do more after being at Chris Wallers ? no chance hehehe SEE the trusty Gammalite fav's of beautiful young trotter PINK GALAH's and mighty EXPENSIVE EGO (1.52 parked out , and quicker than Copy That) Both win Super Impressively tonight !! magic stuff.

What are the biggest issues facing racing right now?
Gammalite replied to phdStudent's topic in Galloping Chat
Horse racing has been around a long time Lena. Most of the hands on participants have been working in the industry all their lives. the treatment of the animals is first class, as if these horses were part of the family , like a cat or dog , as they are relied on for income for those workers. I worked with horses many years and only saw an industry of compassionate horse-caring people. When racing clubs close in some districts , the number declines as the workers and next generation of racing families, go and do 'something else' and leave the family farms etc. a world wide phenomenom. racing or farming. A critical 'loss' to those industries. that is the main threat you wanted to know. Like-wise the 'regular ' race-goers decline at the same rate. People are more comfortable watching from home , these days, weather conditions, world-wide health concerns, reduced incomes , gambling dollar spread across other gambling sources is a loss for racing. Your 'social Impact' is way more with 'Pokies addiction' , a lot of sports clubs/RSL ,etc, making a fortune from machines rigged to win for them? where's their ethics ? and have massive family 'social Impact' a lot more than the trusty beautiful racing horse ever did. -
That is hilarious with that old horse!!!!. It won 'pulling' on Tuesday lol... couldn't hold him back, all the race. An old claimer. been around for years with Robbie Morris and 'Claimed' for 10k a year ago by Harry Martin , who had 4 wins from 40 starts over the past year with him. very mild. THEN, 10 weeks ago GRIMSON/TRAINOR get him and now 4 wins since they got him , and going like he would beat the Miracle Mile winner SPANKEM and COLT31 up here tomorrow night in Brissy.???? hehehe Back to the retention barn for the 'old boy' Serengeti, I think lol..... need to see why he is put in the big runs now at his age lol.......
-
Absolutely mate. Horses eating properly (diet) to race, is way more important than what you think. a critical factor. not a hope they race on Oats and hay alone lol..... Was a tonic in 'Tim Butts' stable that you are talking about? or G Small ?or ..... one of many others?? Lyell Creek had good tonic. My Field Marshall with the 1.46.9 Miracle Mile Win sure had a 'great' tonic lol.! burning Lazarus off by 20m lol...... well done to them. If it's legal use. throw it in . win the big ones. All trainers give tonics, aids, drenches, supplements, additives of all kinds. (just like All human athletes competing at the top level take. !! BTW . stewards should be following Mark Cavandish around with a sample pot at 'Le Tour" hahaha get some good samples lol... This thread I was high-lighting kiwi horseman Jack TRAINOR/ and 'stablemate J GRIMSON dramatic increase in results, and thought it was funny the stewards were trying to find the Tonic !! lol...... good on the young lads, as long as it's a legal. ! and they're still getting results after retention barn stay as well ! Time to brew a 'tonic for self now' ready for some racing today.

Don't know zip about masking agents. did work with vets for many years, and do know many environment solutions (treated pine rails) etc contain 'arsenic' and some injectables (such as Ferrocyl) that are given by vets for poor eating horses, are arsenic based and effect the gut circulation in difficult eaters , to keep adequate nutrition up to scratch. With-holding period is 5 days for arsenic products. and need to keep under the 3 milligrams per litre /urine swab threshold in race-horses. What were they masking ? doesn't sound good.
-
Pretty good. yes they get pretty 'Timid' with nice horses odds lol...... There is one market open for the FFA saturday night that I will pop here in the 'Wondai's Mate Open' featuring a few of the Fab kiwi's. SPANKEM is Already slashed in to $1.50 the win in QLD !!!!!!!! that was quick.??? lol.. my poor favourite horse COLT THIRTY ONE towelled up by stunning NZer " LL COOL J " last week , now has to deal with Spankem, Turn It Up and Copy That from NZ this week. what a bummer lol........ actually he's not that poor as just cruising up to $1,000,000 won next start or 2. McCarthy drawn to lead with 'Balraj,' so makes 'Copy That' and 'Turn It Up' double figure odds. Wonder if Kylie can drive with Gusto like sister Natalie , and press for the lead .
