  1. Going to be tough to find another champ to get everybody to the race track, she has certainly been a promoters dream, be looking forward to the next chapter, and how her progeny preform, certainly a tough act to follow, no pressure, I'm sure.
  2. Some threads you don't forget, mind you had to look a fair way back to find it.
  3. Got the gold today, not slow or feeble, good on them, one for the battlers, to be fair he has been going ok races lately, as they say, every dog has his day. As an old friend told me, never condemn a horse till their dead.
  4. Very sad to hear the loss of this horse, thoughts and condolences to all connections. Certainly was a star of south island racing, and as tough as old boots, often carrying big weights. Also acquitted himself very well when racing in the north. Certainly one of my favourites, and will be sadly missed.
  5. Very sad to learn of the passing of a true New Zealand racing legend.
  6. I doubt very much any fine or suspension, will happen, sometimes being on the fence the best place to be, you just need that luck, I always like the 1 draws or the inside draw on the second line, if a horse can get a good run and do no work they are always a show, no matter what the ability or surface, and I've had some good roughies from these draws, did get 27s place div at reefton trots, even though the driver never driven a winner, from 1 on the second line, got locked away and done no work, and just sometimes with the run can lob a place or a win.
  7. Did have to work hard early, the winner had the drop on him the trip, but I also thought may have been a bit overconfident.
  8. Maybe we need a few more mentors to help the south island apprentices, your knowledge on tracks and riding maybe of help to some of them, ever thought of having ago,.
  9. That's why I ask, so many say the standard of riding in the south is poor, yet we have one of the best mentors you would think, but I guess he has a fair area to cover.
  10. Must ask the question, how much have the south apprentices improved with him as their mentor, or is he just there on race day.
  11. A very well written, and straight to the point submission. Let's hope they can reconsider their original plan, I'm making it my mission to make some of these meetings slated for closure, all going well will start with the iconic riverton meeting.
  12. Dont you people ask for to much at one time, they will still be doing their re induction into the correct barriers, hokitika style.
  13. The winning post was moved some years ago, after a melee at the gallops, one horse went over the outside fence and headed out the gate and off to blacks point, gold dust was its name, I think, in my opinion, it was nothing to do with the winning post where it was, but I reckon the rider dropped the hand and didn't steer the horse around the corner, kept drifting, and over the fence it went, I other fell as well, may have been a nyhan trained horse, post was shifted back some meters, was always a tricky angle, but now looks unreal, was pleased sods law got the win as it did go a very good race at Westport and dragged me out of a punting hole. Like the Geddes runners, good grass track trainers. Mogul couldn't do it this time around, but was good to get the 40s he paid at the xmas meeting.
  14. Well said, and I agree totally, why didn't they suspend her instead, 200 pingers is alot to a young girl trying her best, they need to be encouraged, and without her and kendra gill they may not have had the numbers for the teal race, these two girls drive for their families, and don't get the opportunities some others do, stipes for God sake show some leniency for these partimers, would love to see them both pick up a win along the way, not totally sure, but I think I backed Mr S Clarkes last winner a few years ago, tinted field, but do stand to be corrected, he may have had one since. Good luck to both girls, their time will come.
  15. Agree on all counts, what's the point of fining these mostly part time drivers who get limited chances, why not a warning. Great grass track racing, and always a roughie or two if you can find them, and old friend always backed the 1 draw, always maintained if they could get a trail, no matter what their form read, with a good run would get the passing lane .He has had some big divs over the years.
  16. Very true, they showed a shortened clip of it amongst other highlights.
  17. See the junior that drove nadira franco got a 200 fine for whip over use, miserable buggers, don't think she has ever driven winner yet, from limited opportunities, stipes just to tough, thought sonic reign was a place show until the driver took him off the rails and locked wheels and checked a few others, she is out till end of the month. He was paying big money and had a trail the trip, never mind a good days racing.

    Reefton Tips.

Draw didn't help her chances, didn't get much luck either.
  19. Only on the coast how ever could one forget this, Reon's commentary was just as great, especially when he said he was down to a walk, and then to a crawl, adding a break in as well, classic, be great to view it again, someone must have it.
  20. Lucky to get a few collects today, none of which I mentioned last night, nadira franco liked that 27s my reasoning was drawn on the fence and may get a soft run, and sods law got me out in the last, otherwise I would have had a shocker.
  21. Used to be an old grinding type myself, now I would rather have a cup of tea, after all it lasts longer. Just put my rough multi on, the returns look super, but the chances are slim.
  22. Like a few ruff ones, muscle pat, sonic reign mogul, predicting a long day on the punt for me.
  23. Very slow to load, I find
  24. Given the all clear in todays stipes report.
  25. Grassroots racing is where it all started, can't understand why they would want to take it away, for me it has much more appeal than the snooty metropolitan racing, with totally different atmosphere, very sad times, but good on them for putting up a fight, let's hope sanity prevails.
