  3. Because he kicked me
  4. Runvs the one I remember.
  5. Wonder when the dust settles, whether their will be an appeal.
  6. Seen a rating 78 battler win an open class race, carried 52kg with the 2kg claimer on, wins well, then gets 5 points and carries 58.5kg in a listed race, with no claims, seems a steep jump in the weights, drops 1 point for an un placed run.l find the system hard to fathom, how many kgs does 1 point equal.
  7. Fair enough you would do your own, with all that experience, I was always told, if you gonna wreck a horse, you may as well do it to your own specifications.
  8. Bit of discipline never hurt me as a youngster, and that's just the way it was back then, I never used any term as you described as belt or bash, but I can tell you, every horse he broke in may not have been the fastest, but were very well disciplined, when they got to the races, sometimes pussyfooting around just makes the issue worse.
  9. I some years ago seen a horse get a couple of reminders from what would be frowned upon today without going into to much detail, I inquired why this action was taken, to which the reply was,the bastard was gunna kick my head off, remember there is some nasty types around and if not taught a little discipline, can result in life threatening injuries of even death in some cases. We have seen the odd person lose there lives from horse injuries.
  10. I for one won't be supporting that overrated, over priced, kumara meeting, which only leaves greymouth, a real disaster to lose reefton and hokitika, and will the northerners travel down for two meetings, sounds like the death of the coast racing is only a matter of time, if you go down, you yo down swinging, Good on reefton for fighting for their future.
  11. Most seem to ride into those tight corners, instead of riding around them, and we see the same every year, but with out these overseas riders the meetings would be compromised, the pace easing seems to happen in most staying races, and just a sprint home.
  12. Only if you got the leather undies on.
  13. I would have thought these young lads not familiar with the tight country circuit, get any some advice from senior riders ,or the apprentice mentors, who have probably ridden around these circuits many times. But then again like alot of apprentices in all trades,do they want to listen or be told.
  14. Trouble is a lot of owners dont want a horse that needs time, maybe a little different for tavistock, being proven in all, and he his been a great sire. These days they want the youngsters that get to the races and show ability, many don't make it when time to grow and mature, you may see a different outcome, just my opinion.
  15. Can't beat that b and d.
  16. Crickey you got to have ago, thats like going to the pub and not having a drink.
  17. That's the ups n downs of racing, a great leveller.
  18. Very interesting stats, and with the big sales coming up, just how much of a bearing this will have. Will have to see how many he has in. Any predictions.
  19. Think it was reefton.
  20. The three were nite owl whimpy and keff, the year 1957.
  21. At 31 years of age, they may leave him there.
  22. Forgot to remember, funny name for a horse, I do remember some years ago a lady told me I had the biggest appendage she had ever seen, I said, ya pulling my leg.
  23. Hopefully all the anti racing protesters can see this.
  24. Not to sure may have been 50s or there abouts, got an old race book somewhere with the picture of it on the front cover, one of the horses was called whimpy and the other knight owl, can't remember the third one, as a avid collector of old race books, I find them so interesting to look back on, did throw some of the 80s and 90s out when I was shifting, oh boy have I really regretted that, just looking at one now amberley gallops, may 1954, a great year,
  25. I see what your doing, trying to pull the wool over our eyes, I won't bleat on about it.
